City The

Explore the Creative Capital

For a smaller city, Providence has a lot to offer. Just steps from our campus you’ll find evidence of how this city earned the nickname “Creative Capital.” Stunning murals dot the cityscape and bring brilliant color to the historic brick buildings and new construction alike. Locally owned shops sell art, books, clothing and more. And you can’t swing a stick around here without hitting an incredible restaurant — cuisine from around the world can be found around every corner. Many of the city’s top restaurants are also owned or operated by our alumni (no big deal, just thought we’d mention it).

The rich history, the scenic river views, the art, the community, the food — this is Providence, and there is so much to discover.

Vibes, Great Eats Good

The food scene in Providence can’t be beat — while you’re here for a tour of our campus, you might as well explore the city one bite at a time. Take a stroll across the beautiful pedestrian bridge to check out restaurants on Wickenden Street and the surrounding Fox Point neighborhood, such as Den Den Korean Fried Chicken or Persimmon. Head over to College Hill to explore Thayer Street’s eats, such as Kabob and Curry or East Side Pockets. Visit the historic Federal Hill area for some of the best Italian restaurants, such as Massimo Ristorante or Andino’s. Or, try one of the great spots just steps from our campus, such as The Malted Barley or Xaco Taco.

JWU is just a short walk or drive from all this and more. Scan the QR code below to check out our full list of top restaurant picks.
