“I love getting to be hands-on and collaborating with my classmates. We do a lot of hands-on activities that mimic a real work environment. We also go on weekly field visits where we get to see real work opportunities and hear from alumni and business owners.”
Zahria Jones ’25 Fashion Merchandising & Retailing
In many JWU courses, you’ll learn through hands-on projects, actually doing the work of the discipline. Small class sizes, innovative lab spaces and mentorship from professors make it possible to engage in real-world work immediately.
AVERAGE CLASS SIZE
21 students
Your lessons will be in our hands-on learning labs, but they can also come in the form of working with local companies, teaming up with students from other majors on collaborative projects, visiting sustainable farms or even traveling around the world to study abroad. Experiential education is what we’re known for — and we’ve perfected it.
JWU professors come with years of experience and are often still active in their industries. Their credentials and expertise make them great teachers, but what sets them apart is their willingness to go the extra mile, act as a trusted mentor and share their stories and professional networks with you.
“When I visited Johnson & Wales for an open house, I wasn’t really thinking too much about the school — that is until I met the professors. I will never forget the day I sat in front of Professor Cannata and Professor Diaz and thought to myself, ‘This is where I want to go.’ To me, attending a business school is one thing, but attending a business school where the professors care about your future is another — and that’s what Johnson & Wales has.”
Garret Koch ’23 Double major, Accounting/Finance
“Moving to Providence as a 17 year old from a smaller town was definitely a daunting experience. Once I toured it, I fell in love with this idea of being immersed in the city where people are going to their jobs and students are going to classes.”
Jake Beaton ’23 Marketing & Advertising
The city that surrounds our campus will also become your home. As a JWU student, you will live on campus for your first three years of study allowing you to experience the best of Providence in a closeknit community. Providence was recently named the second most-walkable city in the country by USA Today — take a stroll and you’ll discover just how much there is to do right outside your door. You can visit the Providence Performing Arts Center for a show, check out some student-approved restaurants like Frisky Fries and Xaco Taco or take in the river views on the pedestrian bridge. Providence will be yours to discover.
“We won the GNAC championship for Women’s Softball last year and that was really exciting. I played first base. I remember my teammate threw it to me, I caught it and all of us rushed to the pitcher’s mound and were jumping and celebrating together.”
Hailey Erickson ’23, ’24 MBA Accounting
Student clubs and organizations, varsity athletics and intramural sports offer the perfect chance to explore new interests, continue existing hobbies and — most importantly — meet cool people.
It’s easy to get involved from the moment you arrive at JWU. In the first week of fall classes, all clubs, organizations and teams recruit new members at the Student Involvement Fest.

“It’s easy to find people I can connect with because the JWU student body is so diverse. Just through being on campus and getting involved, I have met some of my best friends and each one brings something different to my life.”
