Winchester and the New Forest

Winchester is crammed with hidden treasures, it is England’s ancient capital, explore the medieval streets, admire the history of Winchester Cathedral, Wolseley Castle and King Arthur’s Round Table before strolling the River Itchen to the Hospital of St Cross. After a couple of hours we travel to the scenic New Forest, through Lyndhurst to Brockenhurst for a stop and finishing in the colourful coastal town of Lymington.

Cutty Sark and Queens House, Greenwich

Built in 1869 to carry tea back from China, Cutty Sark visited nearly every major port in the world and gained fame for its record-breaking passages. Delve into the adventures of this iconic ship and meet the colourful cast of characters on board the ship who tell their story of what life was like on board. We leave the Cutty Sark and walk over to the Queen's House, a must as part of any day out in Greenwich. Admire the classical design of the House - one of the most important buildings in English architecture. Step through the doors and find yourself in the impressive Great Hall. This perfectly proportioned cube has a striking marble floor, with a black-and-white geometric design originally laid in 1635.

Stand on the Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory, see the fabulous baroque artistry of the Painted Hall and the Old Royal Naval College, explore Britain’s naval history at the National Maritime Museum, shop the fabulous designer-maker arts and crafts in historic Greenwich Market or perhaps take a flight over the river Thames on the London Cable Car.
Evesham Blossom Trail and Carvery

The Vale of Evesham and its surrounding area is some of the most productive horticultural land in the country, and is well known for its apples, pears and plums. The roadsides are ablaze with colour - the soft pink tones of cherry and apple blossom contrast with the white of the pear and the plum. We enjoy a stop off at The Valley, Evesham’s country park, with its shopping village, garden centre and light railway. We return via the Wheelbarrow Castle country pub, where we enjoy a delicious two course carvery.
Springtime Bowood House and Woodland Garden

The house contains a collection of art and historical treasures, such as Napolean’s Death mask, Queen Victoria’s wedding chair and the laboratory in which Dr Joseph Priestley identified oxygen gas. Explore the library and chapel, sculpture gallery, orangery and range of exhibition rooms with amazing artefacts and antiques. It’s set in 100 acres of Capability Brown parkland, the pleasure grounds include formal terraces and gardens, arboretum, cascade, doric temple and lake. The Woodland Garden, covering 30 acres, is an oasis of bluebells, azaleas, magnolias and rhododendrons, considered to be one of the most exciting gardens of its type in the country, and surrounds the family mausoleum, one of Robert Adams finest classical buildings.
Historic Stamford on Market Day at Rutland Water Cruise with Cream Tea Friday 28th April 2023
Stamford is a beautiful market town situated on the River Welland, and is often described as ‘the finest stone town in England’. It has over 600 listed buildings and Gallows still stretch along the medieval High Street and a bustling market is held every Friday. In the afternoon we enjoy a cruise on Rutland Water, with cream tea served on board.

Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza
Thursday 20th April 2023
Today we head to the cathedral city of Ripon, with its quaint medieval streets filled with shops, tearooms, historic buildings and bustling market square. We also visit the highly acclaimed Himalayan Garden, best known for its flamboyant bursts of colour with rare rhododendrons, azaleas and Himalayan plants stealing the show. Also view the 80 contemporary sculptures.
The excursion is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Discover the Tower of London’s 900 year history as a royal palace and fortress, prison and place of execution, mint, arsenal, menagerie and jewel house. It has been the seat of British government and the living quarters of monarchs, the site of renowned political intrigue and the repository of the Crown Jewels. Highlights include the magnificent collection of 23578 gemstones, still used in royal ceremonies today, kept under armed guard in the Jewel House, the White Tower, built by William the Conqueror, which houses displays from the Royal Armouries, live costumed re-enactments, and see instruments of torture in the Lower Wakefield Tower.

We travel to the beautiful Elan Valley and make a stop at the Elan Valley Visitor Centre, set against a spectacular backdrop of a Victorian stone dam. We enjoy a circular tour, accompanied by a knowledgeable ranger and pause for photos. In the afternoon we make our way to Gigrin Farm, known as the Red Kite Feeding Centre. It is a 200 acre working farm, where at 3pm everyday hundreds of Red Kites feed. Watch the truly breathtaking spectacle from hides just a few metres away. There is a coffee shop and gift shop on site.

RHS experts are on hand to give practical advice and there is a whole host of opportunities for gardeners, horticulturists and homemakers.
The Trentham Estate and Afternoon Tea at Amerton Farm
Explore over 60 timber lodge shops at Trentham Shopping Village. The gardens include the Italian Garden, grand Italian parterres, fountains, show gardens and rose borders. We finish the day with afternoon tea at Amerton Farm, where there is wonderful gifts and craft workshops to browse.
Living Crafts at Hatfield House

Enjoy a shopping and crafting experience like no other, set in the beautiful grounds of Hatfield House, with 100’s of craft and shopping stalls, delicious food and drink and a craft workshop where you can have a go or watch demonstrations, this is a must for all craft enthusiasts. Admission also includes entry to the park and West Garden, where you can see the 17th century knot garden.
London on the King's Coronation Day

We travel to London on the day His Majesty King Charles III is crowned alongside the Queen Consort, at a ceremony at Westminster Abbey. More details about this excursion will follow.

After ten years the Spalding Flower Parade returns! The theme for 2023 will be Spalding Through the Decades and as well as the large amount of colourful, flower adorned floats and trailers, there will be free family attractions including huge craft fair, classic car show, street entertainers, live music and trade stands.
Horse Show
Sunday 14th May 2023
The Royal Windsor Horse Show is the UK’s largest outdoor horse show, with international competitions in three different equestrian disciplines taking place in the private grounds of Windsor Castle. Sunday’s show jumping culminates in the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix, as well as competitions in Dressage and Carriage Driving, and other exciting displays include The Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, Pony Club Mounted Games and the Shetland Pony Grand National. We include General Entry with reserved seating, which includes access to all arenas, shopping at over 250 trade stalls and a reserved seat for the Castle arena grandstand.

Today we visit the ‘Cradle of Democracy’. On arrival at the Sovereign’s Entrance, we are met by our guide and proceed up the stairs used by the Queen for the State Opening of Parliament. During the 90 minute tour, you will see the Queen’s Robing Room, The Royal Gallery, the Chamber of the House of Lords, through the Central Lobby into the House of Commons and Westminster Hall. There will be some free time in London.

We make our way to Princetown, where we visit both the National Park Visitor Centre and the Prison Museum. The Visitor Centre houses exhibitions about Dartmoor’s wild stories and wildlife, whilst the Prison Museum reflects the heritage of HMP Dartmoor from Prison of War Depot to the present day. We continue to Tavistock, where we spend the rest of the afternoon in Devon’s only town to hold world heritage status.

Take a walk on the wild side! Gaze at the Asiatic Lions and adorable cubs lazing around their enclosures, be blown away by the stunning White rhino grazing on the lawn of the Gothic Manor House, look a giraffe in the eye at the Giraffe Walkway or watch the flamingos and pelicans on the lake. If your feeling brave how about taking a peek into the reptile house with Giant Anacondas, crocodiles and deadly snakes. The park is also home to 131 species of bird and is renowned for its collection from the tiny Zesterops to the world’s biggest bird, the Ostrich. Take a ride on the narrow gauge railway, run wild in the adventure playground or climb 20 feet in the air on the Sky Maze. The stunning gardens and picturesque parkland make a beautiful backdrop to the animals, with over 260 species, in over 120 acres.

We head to the pretty town of Bakewell, and the largest market in the Derbyshire Dales, where there is over 160 stalls to browse. We continue to Tissington, where every year the ancient art of well dressing is celebrated, with 6 wells in the village dressed with a design created entirely from natural materials including coffee beans, leaves and flowers.

Explore the popular resort on the English Channel, a true Midlands favourite! Weston has something for everyone, there is a long sandy beach, rebuilt pier with amusements and arcades, crazy golf, town centre shopping, helicopter museum and of course donkey rides!

Located in the Peak District National Park, we arrive at Buxton where you can enjoy some free time taking in the architecture or visiting its shops before we head to the stunning Upper Peak Forest Canal to board the Judith Mary, a 72 foot long canal boat, to enjoy a 2 hour peaceful cruise through outstanding countryside with magnificent views of the mountains all around whilst enjoying a plated two meat salad lunch and apple pie with cream. The canal, higher than the railway line, passes villages and towns and is the highest plateau in the UK.

Port Sunlight Village was founded by soap king William Hesketh Lever in 1888. The village was built to house Levers ‘sunlight soap’ factory workers, but today is home to a fascinating museum, beautiful architecture, world class art gallery and stunning parkland. We enjoy a coach tour of the village and visit the Edwardian worker’s cottage. The museum showcases William Lever’s approach to advertising, a special ‘Sunlight Spirit’ film, exhibitions exploring village life and even a unique connection to music legends, The Beatles.

Today we head for the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, and the grounds of Harewood House, for an unforgettable experience taking you behind the scenes of Emmerdale. Walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters, with a 90 minute guided tour exploring the village and outside sets of The Woolpack, Café Mainstreet, David’s Shop and many more - with plenty of time to take photos. There will be some free time in Leeds.

We visit one of Wales’ premier visitor attractions, Portmeirion, the enchanting Italianate style village on the coast of North Wales. Marvel at the architectural heritage, visit the village with its variety of shops, cafes, colourful buildings, picturesque piazza and exhibitions. Explore the 70 acres of exotic woodlands, complete with Japanese garden and lily covered lake and search out the Dog’s Cemetry, the Tangle Wood Ghost Garden and Shelter Valley. The coastal paths take you to the white sandy beaches to discover hidden caves and the famous Stone Boat of Portmeirion. We include a delicious two course lunch at Castle Deudrath in the village.

We travel to Southampton to board our boat, and cruise to the quaint and picturesque Isle of Wight for a coach tour around scenic parts of the island. We stop for a couple of hours at Shanklin Old Village to get some lunch before resuming our tour of the island. Relax with an included cream tea on the return boat ride back to Southampton.

This summer Sandringham will see an inspiring week showcasing ‘Sandringham in Bloom’ with celebrations of flora and fauna. As part of these celebrations the Queen Elizabeth II floral Coronation Robe from Salisbury Cathedral will feature inside Sandringham House, made by a team of 24 floral arrangers. Other highlights include garden sculptures, show gardens, further floral arrangements in the house and plant sales. Also on display in the ballroom will be a collection of watercolours painted by His Majesty the King.
Scenic Coast Tour: Starcross, Teignmouth and Dawlish

We head south and travel though Starcross, to Dawlish for free time. Dawlish is a pristine seaside resort with sandy beach, interesting town shops and a pleasant park where you can see the famous black swans glide sedately down the river. We finish in Teignmouth, both a historic port and seaside resort with two beaches, Victorian Pier and lively town centre.

The RAF Cosford Air Show includes an action packed six hour flying display with the very best displays including powerful demonstrations of modern military aircraft, captivating appearances from iconic vintage aircraft and adrenaline pumping aerobatic displays. There will also be a huge assortment on static display for you to view up close. On the ground you will find hundreds of exhibits, stalls, trade stands and military demonstrations including WWII aircraft, the Vintage Village and classic vehicles.

We enjoy free time in the seaside resort of Aberystwyth, on the rugged Ceredigion coastline. It boasts the oldest pier in Wales, a mile long Victorian promenade, with the world’s largest Camera Obscura. The Cliff Railway is the longest in Britain. It is a foodie heaven and offers lovely independent shops to browse. The Arts Centre and National Library of Wales are also worth a visit. In the afternoon we include a return ride on the Rheidol Railway, a stunning journey along the Rheidol Valley, through the ancient woodlands to Devil’s Bridge, home of the famous waterfalls, nestling in the magnificent Cambrian Mountains.

Experience the quintessential English Rose Garden at the height of its summer beauty. Many of the castle rooms will be filled with stunning floral arrangements. Hever Castle was once the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. Its panelled rooms house fine furniture, tapestries, antiques and what is regarded as ‘one of the best collections of Tudor portraits after the National Portrait Gallery’. The book of Hours Room illuminates two prayer books which belonged to Anne Boleyn and bear her inscriptions and signature. The 125 acres of grounds contain the formal gardens and Loggia, overlooking the lake with its cascades, grottoes and fountains and there is a fascinating collection of miniature model houses and boat rides. We include 2 course lunch.

Snowshill Manor is the unconventional home of the eccentric Charles Wade, who delighted in creating a stage for his life and passions. The Ffestiniog Railway is the oldest independent railway company in the world, established in 1832. The railway takes you on a 13½ mile journey from Blaenau Ffestiniog in the mountains, round horse shoe bends, past lakes and waterfalls, through magnificent forest, to the harbour in the seaside town of Porthmadog, a busy harbour town with a good range of shops and a maritime museum.

Cirencester is known as ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’ and is a lovely market town with fascinating history and Corinium Museum. Bibury is situated on the River Coln and was once described by William Morris as the most beautiful village in the Cotswolds. Burford is a pretty town where the high street slopes down to the willow fringed River Windrush.
Avon Valley Rail and Sail with Cream Tea

A lovely day out, we travel to Bristol, where we enjoy a boat cruise around Bristol’s historic city centre harbourside, taking you around the harbour, in the heart of the city, and enjoy the sights and sounds of historic landmarks and modern developments, including the view of Brunel’s great ship, the SS Great Britain, in the original dock where she was built. In the afternoon we head to Bitton, an original Victorian, Midland Railway station painstakingly restored by volunteers. Here we enjoy a three mile journey admiring idyllic views across the Avon Valley, whilst enjoying a cream tea.
Ullswater Steamer Cruise and Dalemain House and Gardens

We travel via the Kirkstone Pass to Glenridding, on the shore of Lake Ullswater, where we board our Ullswater Steamer. Ullswater is the second largest lake in England and we enjoy a one hour, one way seven mile cruise along the whole length of the lake, to Pooley Bridge, the pretty Lakeland village, once an important fishing trading area. From here we travel to Dalemain House and Gardens, a fine stately home with a beautiful Georgian façade standing in 5 acres of landscaped gardens and home to the annual ‘World’s Original Marmalade Awards’.
Rail and Sail in Llangollen

Llangollen Railway is a heritage line running from Llangollen, following the River Dee, through the Dee Valley for 10 miles to the town of Corwen. The line is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and remains close to the river for most of its length. In the afternoon we enjoy a two hour cruise on board canal boat Thomas Telford, crossing the mighty Pontcysyllte Aquaduct, enjoying the most beautiful canal in Great Britain, with stunning views of the Dee Valley, now a World Heritage Site. We include a Welsh cream tea whilst on board.
Brooklands Museum and Concorde Experience

Located on the site of the world’s first, purpose built motor racing circuit, Brooklands was the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, home of Concorde, and the site of many engineering and technological achievements throughout eight decades of the 20th century. The museum displays a wide range of Brooklands related motoring and aviation exhibits, ranging from giant racing cars, motorcycles and bicycles to an unparalleled collection of Hawker and Vickers aircraft, as well as Concorde, where we include a tour inside and undertake a virtual flight.

Lord and Lady Heseltine’s Thenford Arboretum and Banbury

Thenford Arboretum has been created over the last 40 years by Lord Heseltine and his wife Anne. The arboretum, now spread over 70 acres, features a collection of more than 3000 different trees and shrubs together with extensive herbaceous borders, water gardens, an alpine trough garden, a sculpture garden, a rose garden and a rill. The medieval fish ponds, their interconnecting canal and lake have all been restored. Banbury is a market town on the River Cherwell with atmospheric lanes and streets of the Old Town, vibrant shopping centre, museum, boatyard and impressive bronze statue close to Banbury Cross.

We first visit Painswick, ‘Queen of the Cotswolds’. Built from mellow Cotswold stone, wander around its quaint streets with a variety of small shops and galleries. We continue to Malmesbury on the edge of the south eastern Cotswolds, with its stunning 12th century Abbey, Market Cross and free Athelston Museum. We finish the day at Chavenage House, a beautiful Elizabethan Manor, known as ‘Trenwith’, the ‘Poldark’ pile. It has been used for many other TV programmes, including the ‘House of Elliot’ and ‘Lark Rise to Candleford’. We include afternoon tea.
Cambrian Coast Tour - Barmouth, Towyn and Aberdovey

Apes are beautiful, intelligent creatures that deserve a safe home which is exactly what they get at Monkey World. There are more than 250 primates of over 20 different species at this sanctuary for rescued primates. Many who arrive at the centre have suffered abuse or neglect and are slowly rehabilitated to live in family groups within the 65 acres of beautiful countryside.

The Tank Museum in Bovington houses the world’s largest and finest collection of armoured fighting vehicles from unique World War I tanks to the latest main battle tank of the British Army; challenger. The museum also examines the conditions that led to the intervention and introduction of the tank and tells the story of its development in context with the political and social events of a turbulent 20th century. The museum has a collection of almost 300 vehicles from over 26 countries.

Dudley Zoo, set in the grounds of Dudley Castle, is home to hundreds of exotic and endangered animals. Many of the animals are linked to international conservation and breeding programmes. Endangered species include Asiatic lions, Sumatran tigers, Bornean orangutans, Tibetan red panda, giraffes, lemurs and penguins. It also has the country’s only vintage chair lift.
We travel to the Churnet Valley Railway, which takes you on a journey back to the 1950’s and 1960’s. Board the steam train and pass through delightful countryside with riverside views on the Caldon Canal. There is a small museum at Cheddleton Station. We make a stop at Cheadle, before continuing to our second railway visit of the day. Built in the 19th century to transport coal from the Foxfield Colliery, today the Foxfield Light Railway takes passengers on a scenic five mile round trip through the Staffordshire moorlands. Whilst onboard we enjoy an afternoon tea box.

Explore the Georgian manor house which contains collections of French furniture, artwork and porcelain displays around the many fine drawing rooms, state rooms, dining room and bedroom. The Staffordshire County Museum is located in the servants quarters which include historical collections including a costume collection and collection of horse drawn carriages. The grounds include a walled garden, craft workshops, butterfly garden, Island arboretum, working Georgian farm and mill, a land train ride and costumed farm staff doing demonstrations. We finish at Marsh Farm for a three course late lunch/early tea.

Llandudno is known as ‘Queen of the Welsh Resorts, and is the largest seaside resort in Wales. There is a wealth of attractions including the longest pier in Wales, a cable car and funicular tramway and of course the beautiful Victorian promenade curving between the bay between the Great Orme and the Little Orme. Or spend the day in Rhyl, home to no less than 3 beaches, a re-developed harbour, SeaQuarium, Miniature Railway and plenty of amusements.
A Royal Day Out - Buckingham Palace State Rooms and Royal Mews

Steaming Through the Cotswolds to Cheltenham

We travel to Broadway, known as ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’, it has a Museum and Art Gallery and Design Museum and independent shops to explore. At lunchtime we board the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, from the newly extended station at Broadway, and now the new northern terminus. We travel on a single journey through the beautiful Cotswold countryside, lasting about an hour, to Cheltenham, where our coach will be waiting to transport you to central Cheltenham to enjoy a few free hours. The spa town offers glorious gardens, an impressive range of shops and fabulous museums.

Ham House is a lovely red brick Stuart mansion on the River Thames which retains many of its original furnishings, with a large collection of Dutch art.

Chartwell is the family home and garden of Sir Winston Churchill, and was his principal residence from 1924 until his death in 1965. The house is still much as it was when the family lived therepictures, books and personal momentoes. The studio is home to the largest single collection of Churchill’s paintings. The garden is set on a hill with magnificent views over the Weald.
