Friday Tucked away beside the Thames, The Chelsea Physic Garden is the oldest botanic garden in London and houses around 5,000 different medicinal, herbal, edible, and useful plants. The Garden’s unique microclimate and location has allowed the gardeners here throughout history to grow plants not frequently found outside in the UK, including the UK’s largest fruiting olive tree. Many top garden celebrities are brought to the Physic Garden to be interviewed for TV, away from the hurly-burly of the Chelsea Flower Show itself. After your visit, check into our hotel for our overnight stay. Saturday After breakfast, depart for a day at the Chelsea Flower Show. Leave late afternoon for the journey home.

Saturday Today we head for Windsor, this Royal town has always been a popular choice. We have included entrance to the magnificent Castle and the remainder of your time can be spent browsing the shops, or why not head to the river and enjoy a lovely sail. Later, we continue to our hotel for dinner and our overnight stay. Sunday Today we visit Hampton Court Flower Show, where we join the thousands of gardening fans looking to enjoy the abundance of floral delights. There will be water gardens, conceptual gardens, contemporary and traditional gardens to suit all tastes. Hundreds of the UK’s best nurseries will fill the floral marquees. There are hundreds of opportunities to buy gifts, floral art, floristry and fruit & vegetables will also be a major part of the show, all in all it makes a glorious day out.

Sunday We journey south to Henley on Thames and an afternoon cruise along the Royal Regatta Reaches between Marsh and Hambleden Locks. From here it is a short drive to our hotel for our 2-night stay. Monday Today we visit nearby Maidenhead where we commence a cruise to Royal Windsor. Sit back and relax as you pass by homes of the stars and enjoy spectacular views of Windsor Castle and Eton College. On arrival there will be some free time to explore, perhaps visit the castle or take a carriage ride through Windsor Great Park. Tuesday We drive to Kew Pier and commence our final cruise which will take us to central London, sailing past famous landmarks and terminating beside the Houses of Parliament. Here we board our waiting coach and commence our journey home.

Tonight, enjoy private dining with our After Dinner Speaker. The talk includes thrilling stories of refugees, evacuees and life on the home front living with industrial espionage and rationing. All this is accompanied by photos, letters and diaries from the centre’s archive collection. After the talk you will be able to ask questions. Monday Departing our hotel, we continue our WW2 theme today with an included visit to the birthplace of Winston Churchill – Blenheim Palace. Explore the Palace, a masterpiece of baroque architecture with a permanent Churchill exhibition, before strolling through the intricate formal gardens with water terraces and a secret garden. We continue in the afternoon to our hotel in Norwich, arriving in time for dinner and our overnight stay. Monday After breakfast we drive into Norwich. The city’s character is spread around steep little alleyways and old cobbled streets. The best, between Market Place and the River Wensum, are marketed as the Norwich Lanes. Explore cobbled ‘Elm Hill’, with its halftimbered Tudor houses and antique shops. We leave Norwich midafternoon, returning home during the evening.

Friday We travel to Newmarket where we include a tour of the National Stud. Lasting approximately 90 minutes our tour is by coach and on foot. We will explore this beautiful 500-acre stud farm and discover the history and purpose of The National Stud as a commercial Thoroughbred breeding operation. The National Stud is a working commercial stud farm, so the physical content of the tours varies throughout the year, depending on the season and the activities happening on the stud when you visit. From here we continue to our hotel for our 2-night stay. Saturday Free time to discover the sights of Cambridge. The renowned University and its colleges dominate the city centre, and there is an abundance of magnificent historical architecture with the crowning glory being the famous King’s College Chapel. There are a number of museums to explore including the Scott Polar Museum and the Museum of Zoology, and for shopping there is an abundance of independent shops and high street brands. Sunday We visit the Imperial War Museum Duxford. At the start of the Second World War, Duxford was a Royal Air Force fighter base and the control tower and two of the hangars are original. Today, IWM Duxford is Europe’s largest air museum and the fascinating collection includes military and civil aircraft ranging from the First World War to the present-day including Concorde, the Lancaster Bomber and Mosquito plus historic military aircraft and supersonic jets. We depart mid-afternoon and commence our homeward journey.

Friday We begin our day with a visit to the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre, gateway to the historic woodland which is the legendary home of Robin Hood. Here you will embark on a 90-minute guided walking tour of the forest to discover its most famous resident, the Major Oak Tree. From here, you continue to Southwell where you visit the imposing Workhouse. Here you will learn how the poor lived and the role of the workhouse and how it evolved through time. From here we continue to our hotel for our 2-night stay. Saturday Today we head to the beautiful surroundings of the Chatsworth Estate for this year’s RHS Chatsworth Flower Show. One of Britain’s finest grand houses has teamed up once again with the Royal Horticultural Society to put on its own RHS Flower Show. Combining innovative gardening ideas, thought-provoking Show Gardens, the chance to meet the floral experts behind some of the show’s designs. Set in the grounds of the beautiful Chatsworth House, you can also experience ‘Capability’ Brown’s stunning landscapes. Sunday After breakfast we visit the magnificent National Memorial Arboretum, which comprises 150 acres of trees and over 150 memorials of national significance; you can cover as much or as little of the site as you wish. The Arboretum is the home of the Armed Forces Memorial, which is a striking and emotive memorial, that gives recognition and thanks for those who have died whilst on duty or as a result of terrorist action since the Second World War and acknowledges the enduring sacrifice of those who mourn their loss. We return home during the late afternoon.

A magnificent 18th Century stable block originally built by the 5th Duke of Devonshire to house visitor’s horses and servants, and it offers a breathtaking setting for the Buxton Military Tattoo. This magnificent building gives an audience the opportunity to experience the powerful spectacle of The Buxton Military Tattoo, closer to the action and the bands than at any other Tattoo in the country, and as a bonus ......... protected from the vagaries of the British weather!! After the performance, we continue to Derby in time for dinner and our overnight stay.
