The Derbyshire tradition of Well Dressing started in Buxton in 1840. This custom is still continued today, when floral decorations are placed around the wells of the world famous Buxton Spring Water. The whole town then springs to life with a street Carnival and Fair to add to the occasion. We meet our Guide outside the Opera House for a short walking tour which will include the Wells and some general local history. The Parade includes brass bands, assorted floats, carriages and fancy dress characters, including the Well Dressing Queen. Free time in Buxton after the Parade. (Please note that this is a FREE Street Parade and is watched from a standing position. Due to the steep hill in the town, we suggest the best place to observe the procession is from the Opera House).

Nestling in a tranquil valley, we discover a Tudor Mansion which exudes the charm of the 1930’s when it was the family home to Sir Felix and Lady Brunner. Today the estate extends to 280 acres of parkland with interesting outbuildings including a Tudor donkey wheel and a 19th century ice house.

RAF Digby Sector Operations Room Museum, originally called RAF Scopwick, was established on 28 March 1918. The Operations Room is exactly as it would have been in World War II. Women specially chosen for their intelligence and ability to multi task plotted the progress of aircraft over Lincolnshire. They gathered information from the Royal Observer Corps, RADAR sites and the pilots. After our morning guided tour, we head over to nearby Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre, home to 106 Sqn RAF during the whole of this period and in the autumn of 1944 they were joined by 1690 Bomber Defence Training Flight. It was also a main staging post for the repatriation of wounded Americans. The Museum here today is on what was part of the communal area of the airfield.

BLACKPOOL AIR SHOW, Lancashire

This free two-day show will feature thrilling displays from a wide range of military and civil aircraft including the Red Arrows, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, Typhoon, Chinook, Muscle Pitts stunt plane, Strikemaster and the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers.
A number of the aircraft were featured last year in the spectacular Platinum Jubilee celebrations in London. There’s plenty to see on the ground, too. Head to the Air Show Village on the Tower Festival Headland for a wide range of stalls, attractions and food concession.

DUXFORD BATTLE OF BRITAIN AIR SHOW, IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM, Cambridgeshire

Duxford aerodrome was built during the First World War and was one of the earliest Royal Air Force stations. Step back in time, at the historic home of the Spitfire, as the air show features an amazing array of aerial displays as well as lots to see and do on the ground. Witness the now-famous Duxford Spitfire Flypast – you will be standing where the few of 19 Squadron and pilots from across the world stood, as they took off to defend the skies of Britain during the summer of 1940.

Held in Devon this air show is a spectacular event and features breathtaking air displays over the stunning natural amphitheatre of South Devon’s beautiful bay.
The air show will deliver an action-packed flying programme with a selection of cutting edge and beautiful vintage aircraft taking to the skies. Highlights over the weekend include The Red Arrows, The Blades, Vortex, Chinook, Yakolevs, Tigers and The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire).

The Royal Air Force’s only official air show, Cosford Air Show, is one of the largest events in the West Midlands and includes a packed flying schedule offering non-stop entertainment with over six hours programmed flying displays. Contact our Travel Office at Henley in Arden. Callers are welcome at our offices at Liveridge Hill, (on the Birmingham Road A3400, just north of Henley) where there is ample free parking. You will find our cheerful staff happy to answer any queries you may have.
EXCURSION & SHOWTIME BOOKINGS
To make a provisional booking, a simple telephone call is all that is needed. We will hold places for you without obligation for 7 days. You can book directly with our Travel Office, through an appointed Travel Agent, or on-line at www.johnsonscoaches.co.uk.
Please note that provisional bookings will be cancelled automatically if payment is not received within 7 days.
CONFIRMATION OF BOOKING:
In order to confirm your booking, we require payment in full at the time of booking. Once payment is received, we will send your confirmation/receipt, the number and location of seats booked. Pick-up times will be confirmed within five days of the excursion departure date. Please check your confirmation details carefully, as any alterations and pick-up point changes within 8 days of the excursion will incur a £10 per booking administration charge.
METHODS OF PAYMENT:
Payment can be made via debit/credit card, online or by bank transfer. If paying by cheque, please make cheques payable to ‘Johnsons (Henley) Ltd’
REDUCTIONS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS, STUDENTS & CHILDREN:
Senior Citizens and Students (with a valid student card) are carried at the Concession rate. Children aged 4-14 are carried at the Child rates listed in this brochure.
Please note we cannot accept unaccompanied children below 14 years of age.
CANCELLATION:
(a)BY THE COMPANY – should circumstances arise where, due to less than 20 bookings, we are forced to cancel any excursion; all monies paid by all passengers for that particular excursion will be refunded. Following that, the Company shall be exempt from any further liability.
(b)BY THE PASSENGER – Excursion
Bookings. You may cancel your booking at any time prior to departure, subject to the following conditions:
(i)For cancellations notified to us more than 7 days prior to the departure of the excursion, a £5.00 charge per person is made.
(ii)For cancellations for which less than 7 (but more than 1) clear working days’ notice is received, a £15.00 per person charge is made.
(iii)For cancellations made within 1 working day of the excursion, the full cost of the excursion will be charged.
(iv)Special cancellation charges may apply where admission tickets and/or meals are purchased in advance.
(c)BY THE PASSENGER – Showtime
Bookings. You may cancel your booking at any time prior to departure, subject to the following conditions:
(i)Should cancellation occur at any time prior to departure, a charge will be made for the relevant show ticket cost included with your Showtime excursion, plus £10 per person to cover administration, unless the tickets are re-sold.
(ii)Where tickets are re-sold, a £10 per person administration charge will be made.
PERFORMING ARTISTS:
For some shows, it may be advertised that a well-known personality is taking a starring role. We cannot be held liable, if on the date of our visit, the personality is unable to perform and is replaced by an understudy.
ALTERATIONS:
The Company reserves the right to alter excursions or prices, the size, seating arrangement and specification of the vehicle used, or to cancel any excursion listed in this brochure.
ADMISSION CHARGES:
Please see each individual excursion that will list which extras (ie lunch, admission charges etc) are included.
BOARDING INFORMATION
Notification of Boarding Times
You will be informed of your pick up time by e-mail at approximately 5 days prior to the departure date. Customers who are not contactable in this way will be notified by post. If you have not received your pick up time within 3 days of departure, please contact our Travel Office on 01564 797000 (option 0).
Group Booking
When reserving 15 or more places in a single booking, we are pleased to offer 1 pick-up from a location of your choice (Subject to vehicular access). Discounts may also be available dependant on numbers booked.
Late Booking
If your booking is made within 7 days of departure, some pick up points may not be available and payment in full is required at the time of booking. Please check with our Reservations staff who will be happy to advise you.
Feeder Vehicles
Feeder vehicles may be used to bring you to join the main coach. Please note that the feeder vehicle may be a Coach, Minibus or Taxi.
