Charming, stylish and full of history, the picturesque market town of Arundel in West Sussex is probably most famous for two stunning landmarks – Arundel Castle and Arundel Cathedral. We also visit Chichester – a town that was important in Roman times in the first century AD and still has some Roman remains today.

Holiday Itinerary

Sunday We drive to Arundel where we are free to explore this old market town.

The historic 19th century cathedral overlooks the town from the west bank of the river Arun and is a fine example of gothic architecture, whereby the towering stately home and fortified castle, that has been the seat of the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors since 1067, conceals a very fine collection of furniture, paintings, clocks, tapestries, armour and much more, including personal possessions of Mary, Queen of Scots. Tonight, we enjoy dinner and overnight accommodation at the Norfolk Arms Hotel.

Monday Steeped in over 2000 years of history, Chichester is our delightful destination today. Dominated by the 900-year-old Cathedral the town has many fine buildings and also offers the visitor excellent shopping. We commence our journey homewards in the afternoon.

The Battle of Britain was a major air campaign fought largely over southern England in the summer and autumn of 1940, in which the RAF defended the United Kingdom against large-scale attacks by Nazi Germany’s air force, the Luftwaffe.

Join us on this memorial tour to Kent to discover why, in the words of Sir Winston Churchill, "Never was so much owed by so many to so few"!

The Massed Bands of the Royal Marines have performed at the Royal Albert Hall for over 40 years. Originally these concerts were given in commemoration of Sir Malcolm Sargent who, for some 20 years, was the Honorary Musical Advisor to the Royal Marines Band Service. Following the death of Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was Life Colonel Commandant of the Royal Marines, the concerts were renamed in 1980. The link with Sir Malcolm Sargent continues through the charity, CLIC Sargent, which together with Royal Navy and Royal Marines charities, is the principal beneficiary of the money raised by these concerts.

Step aboard the superb Waverley Paddle Steamer and wave goodbye to Glasgow as we set sail on the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world! Named after Sir Walter Scott’s Waverley novels, the ship embarked on her maiden voyage in 1947. Now a much-loved tourist attraction, we enjoy a memorable journey, steaming along the River Clyde and taking in the beautiful views all the way to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute – and back again!
