These different towns are known for a mutitude of things, Grasmere has it’s famous to die for gingerbread, Hawkshead has close links to Beatrix Potter and her famous Peter Rabbit stories - you can visit her house and gardens of Hill Top Farm which is now a National Trust property or if you are more interested in Beatrix Potter’s stories than why not explore ‘The World of Beatrix Potter’ Museum in Windermere.
RYDAL MOUNT & GARDENS
Visit Rydal Mount, William Wordsworth’s favourite family home, that lies between Ambleside and Grasmere and commands stunning views of Windermere and the surrounding fells. The house was a focus for romantic literature that remains in the Wordsworth family to this day.
LOTHER CASTLE & GARDENS
Of the many treasures waiting to be explored, Lowther Castle is a particular gem - having been built at the turn of the 19th century on the site of two previous houses, the Castle was a grand affair boasting a room for every day of the year. Its gardens were the envy of the North. Today the Castle is one of the most intriguing visitor attractions in the country with dramatic ruins, gardens within gardens and an adventure playground to rival the best in the land.
LAKE WINDERMERE CRUISE
Step onboard a boat for a 40 minute sightseeing cruise on the stunning Lake Windermere to Lakeside, where you will take a train ride on a short journey through the beautiful scenery of the Leven Valley to Haverthwaite.
