Cambridge is a City of History, Culture and world-changing Discoveries. A beautiful university town with a tightly packed city centre that is perfect for exploring the ancient colleges with such a rich history, the cobbled streets and the picturesque River Cam.

Cambridge is a picturesque city that its bathed in history, the stunning River Cam that runs through the City has been used to tranport goods since the Roman times. In the Middle Ages it was used to transport stone to the University and corn downstream to the Great Ouse and onwards to Kings Lynn. As the University expanded, the river was needed for the transportation of food and building materials. In 1703, an Act was passed for improvements above Clayhithe, and a further Act in 1813.
Cambridge is famously known for it’s iconic University that can be dated back to 1209 where groups of scholars congregate at the ancient Roman trading post of Cambridge for the purpose of study, the University is still standing today and is one of the most recognisable around the world. The University is one of the most prestigous, leading acedemic centres and one of the world’s oldest too!
Cambridge is not only famous for the University and the famous boat race between Cambridge and Oxford, there are many people who have come out of Cambridge who give it a large reputation including - Steven Hawking, Pink Floyd, Rupert Brooke & Oliver Cromwell.
There are more than thirty museums in Cambridgeshire, as well as several fantastic art galleries such as the David Parr House, New Hall Art Collection and Heong Gallery.
Cambridge University has eight museums in total including the Fitzwilliam, Museum of Archaelogy and Anthropology and Whipple Museum of the History of Science.
There’s something for everyone to do in Cambridge, from punting on the River Cam, having a picinic in the park to joining a walking tour of the city. Cambridge is a city full of delights with stunning buildings with amazing places to shop, eat and spend time with family and friends. Theatre lovers will also be delighted in the range of performances on offer, from student theatre to touring and West End shows. In the summer Cambridge is full of al fresco performances of music in the parks and green spaces as part of the annual Summer in the City programme of events.
