2015 PLANNER

DAYMAKER A n Impr int of B ar bour P ublishing, Inc. TM

Introduction It’s easy to get bogged down in the responsibilities, to-do lists, and schedules of everyday life. We’re often so busy that we miss the little spiritual lessons that we encounter day to day. Many of those lessons are modeled through our beloved pets, whom we often consider to be among our best friends and family members—our favorite canine companions. Take time from your busy schedule to learn some valuable lessons from a dog’s life. This planner is a good way to start. Use it to assist in the organization of the daily grind, and allow the readings and scripture to inspire your heart all 365 days of 2015.

November 2014

Belly Up Ginger was a black Lab with a lot of personality. And talk about loyal! She would do anything for her master. When he told her to sit, she sat. When he told her to roll over, she rolled over. When he tossed the ball, she fetched it. Anything he would ask her to do, she would do. Why? Because she sensed his love. Ginger’s favorite days were the ones they spent together, just the two of them. She would curl up at her master’s feet or even lay her head in his lap, comfortable and content. Oh, how loved she felt. How safe. One of Ginger’s favorite pastimes was to let her master rub her tummy. She would roll over onto her back and wriggle until he noticed her. He always smiled and spoke words of love over her as this transpired. Then, as he reached down to run his hands along her belly, she would lie perfectly still, enjoying his touch. Before long, she got so relaxed she would fall asleep under his watchful eye. How wonderful it felt to know she was loved. And how she trusted him! We have a lot to learn from Ginger, don’t we? Sometimes we’re so frazzled by life that we forget we have a trustworthy Master. And we’re so busy that we don’t draw near to spend intimate, quiet time with Him. He longs for us to curl up in His lap so that He can tell us how much He loves us. That’s what being in a relationship is all about, after all. And He wants us to rest easy, knowing He’s in control, even when life around us is chaotic. It’s interesting to think about Ginger’s belly-up posture. Lying there on her back, she is completely vulnerable. Open. She senses no fear. Her body position speaks of faith, doesn’t it? She trusts her master implicitly. In the same way, the Bible says that we can come boldly to our Daddy-God, entering into His throne room, knowing we are loved. There’s nothing to fear. And He longs for you to open yourself

as you have never done before, sharing your deepest longings, joys, and fears. This is what real relationship is all about! When was the last time you had quality intimate time with your heavenly Father? Has it been awhile since you’ve put yourself in a vulnerable position? Today, slip away to a quiet place and put your head on His shoulder. Feel His heartbeat. Listen to the soothing sound of His voice as He speaks words of love. The King of kings longs to be in relationship with you, so why wait another minute? Run to Him today.

Goals for This Month:

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8 niv

December 2014

It’s a Mystery One winter afternoon, when our dog Durham, a shar-pei and yellow Lab mix, was less than one year old, I stuck a dark-coated pan filled with sausage into the oven while making dinner. A few minutes later I noticed the faint scent of hot rubber. Hmm, that’s odd, I thought. I considered whether the dark-coated pan was the culprit, but that didn’t make sense since I’d used the pan numerous times before and had had no problem with an odd smell. So, with a dinnertime deadline looming, I ignored the strange odor. After preparing a dish of macaroni and cheese, I grabbed a potholder to make room in the oven for the casserole. As soon as I opened the oven door, the intense smell of now burning rubber rushed up from the depths of the fiery furnace and assaulted my nose. I staggered back, caught a breath of fresh air, held it in, quickly headed back to the oven, and removed the sausage pan. Then I stuck my head into the oven to see what could possibly be the source of that intense odor. And there it was: Durham’s multicolored Super Ball, resting quietly on the top rack in the back. “What? How did that get in there?” Not knowing what to expect from a hot Super Ball, I grabbed a few paper towels and positioned myself for ball extraction. Slowly, I began sliding out the rack, careful not to let the ball roll down to the oven floor. Finally, when the ball was within reach, I snatched it up in the paper towels, ran outside, and threw it out onto the porch, where it made a terrific bounce before heading onto the lawn. After returning the sausage to the top rack, I added the casserole dish of mac and cheese, and shut the oven door. As I continued making dinner, Durham kept bringing me his tennis ball, dropping it at my feet. But I had no time to play. Then he saw the “other dog” reflected in the oven door and growled menacingly at him for a while. I musingly wondered if perhaps the “other dog” had left the Super Ball in the oven.

Life is full of mysteries. Sometimes we solve them. Sometimes we don’t. But of this one thing we can be certain: God knows everything and has it all under control. Because He has a plan, we need not know all the answers to life’s questions. God is “on the ball,” and He is working things out. So let’s rest easy in His arms, being reassured by His Word and His presence.

Goals for This Month:

God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Ephesians 1:9–10 nlt
