URBAN EMBROIDERY URBAN DESIGN, SPRING 2013, BORDEAUX, FRANCE Xiaokang He, Gu Wang, Ramezany M. Reihaneh, Yang Li Professor: Kate Orff Concept Development, Digital Modeling, Illustration, Transportation Research Contemporary societies have become heavily dependent upon mobility for their economic growth. The future metropolis of Bordeaux is no exception. The issue of mobility has grown to be a requirement

of Bordeaux’s future metropolitan life in which the development potential increasingly relies on the quality of connections to the various public transportation networks.

DESIGN FRAME WORK

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT New vision gateway to Bordeaux 2030

As Bordeaux 2030 desires to become a self-sustained green metropolitan, we aim to centralize public transportation of tram and peripheries car circulation. In Villenave d’Ornon Pont de la Maye, by identifying two nodes of interest, we stitch inside the Rocade to outside the Rocade. By converting the historic Route de Toulouse to a tramway, a new gateway to Bordeaux is introduced where public transportation is centeralized by a new sustainble development.

NYCHA’s developments have become both physical and social dead ends. NYCHA’s character and potential as a “social agency” has been largely unrecognized, overshadowed by its specialized housing mission. This project creates a system to encourage residents

from the public housing system to develop their entrepreneurial talents on underdeveloped land holdings by creating new affordable commercial spaces, including small-scale, innovation hubs for residents, alongside market-rate commercial spaces.

SENSEWalk PRODUCT DESIGN, SPRING 2012, CLEMSON, SC Xiaokang He Detail Design, Digital Modeling, Competition, Animation

Sensewalk increases flexibility, convenience, and comfort of sidewalk infrastructure. Urban sidewalks have become cluttered and many sidewalks, due to limited space, are not flexible enough to readily meet the diverse needs of pedestrians. Theft, vandalism, and weather are also threats to sidewalk structures. Sensewalk combines the functions of a sidewalk into one system that addresses these problems.
