DESIGN + BUILD, FALL 2010, CHARLESTON, SC Xiaokang He + STUDIO V Detail Design, Fabrication, Build

The “Crab” screen was a project to design and build a movie screen for an event that was held at Cannon Park, Charleston. The design centered around building a portable and reusable

screen that could be moved by a trailer, which was later custom built to accompany this project. The cost of the project was minimized by using recycled materials.

Joint Detail

1. Move the parts carefully from the trailer and install on site

2. Manually open the lower arm

3. Force the upper arm against the ground

4.Open the upper arm by the winch

5. AAach the screen on the structure with the bike tube

6. Fix the cable on the structure

SENSEWalk PRODUCT DESIGN, SPRING 2012, CLEMSON, SC Xiaokang He Detail Design, Digital Modeling, Competition, Animation

Sensewalk increases flexibility, convenience, and comfort of sidewalk infrastructure. Urban sidewalks have become cluttered and many sidewalks, due to limited space, are not flexible enough to readily meet the diverse needs of pedestrians. Theft, vandalism, and weather are also threats to sidewalk structures. Sensewalk combines the functions of a sidewalk into one system that addresses these problems.
