THE PADDOCK 2: VIRTUAL FIELDS This group exhibition re-unites a group of contemporary abstractionists - painters and sculptors – who met while studying at the National Art School. Last year, in our inaugural exhibition The Paddock: looking back at The Field we made works that referenced The Field exhibition 1968, conscious not only of a distinct and seminal moment in Australian art history but also in order to realise the synergies arising out of a sense of collective endeavour. This year, no longer looking back, our works reference virtual fields – those delineated yet ephemeral fields of

thought, modes of practice or conceptual approaches which locate and inform our practices on this technologically driven, image and information-saturated contemporary paddock. So, while the language of non-objective abstraction – an interest in pictorial structure, spatial illusion, colour relationships and legibility of materials and process – continues to unite us, and this is manifest whenever our works are shown together, each artist also references a distinct and transitory virtual aspect in the work.
