Congratulations to all the team at Crafty Monkey for being shortlisted as finalists in The Hunts Post Business Awards 2011! What an amazing achievement when they have only been in business since July 2010! The St. Neots based Pottery Painting, Build a Bear and Craft Studio made it through against some strong contenders in the New Business of the Year category. The annual awards celebrate the best of Huntingdonshire’s business community. Crafty Monkey owner, Chrissy Brown, who attended the black tie event on 4th November, said: ‘Although the Monkey didn’t quite win, it was an honour to make it so far and we’d like to thank all our great customers who have supported us and make us feel like winners.’ See page 9 for details on how to buy Crafty Monkey gift vouchers this Christmas! Get your kids moving with Little Kickers!
A new way to introduce children to the beautiful game has kicked off in Peterborough and Cambridge.
Little Kickers provides pre-school children (18 months – 7 years) with a fun, positive introduction to football. Our activity programme was developed by FA qualified coaches working with early years learning specialists and child health experts. Each class is run by 2 FA qualified coaches and enables the children to develop football skills at the same time as developing essential early learning skills. Our classes are different from other football classes because they are specifically tailored to suit the development needs of such young children. Little Kickers is not about unearthing the next Gerrard or Rooney. Our goal is to provide a fun filled and pressure free footy-themed environment where children can begin to develop confidence, coordination, control and communication. With over 10,000 children participating in over 500 classes across the UK we believe that Little Kickers is helping our children by providing a positive introduction to sport.
Classes are run across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.

Grandparents at Christmas
by Susan Elliott-Wright
It’s easy to take grandparents for granted or even to find them a nuisance, especially if they tend to bombard you with unwanted advice. But try to remember that they mean well, and that they’re important people in your child’s life. Grandparents not only have lots of love to give, they also have wisdom, experience and time; and because they’re

This is especially true around Christmastime, when mums and dads are too busy and stressed to give their children the attention they crave.
Christmas cards and decorations, dressing the tree, or making mince pies might seem like hard work for parents, but grandparents will be happy to help the children with these activities, patiently guiding the children and freeing you up to do other things.

so it may be difficult for your kids to see all their grandparents on Christmas day or boxing day, but try to factor in visits or invitations at some point over the holiday period. If seeing the grandparents over Christmas is impossible, encourage the kids to send homemade cards and presents by post, and to phone or skype on

by their grandchild’s own fair hands. For example, simple chocolate truffles made from cake crumbs and melted chocolate and rolled in cocoa powder; a desk tidy made from plastic bottles and cereal packets; a calendar with photographs of the children, or drawings they’ve done themselves. If your parents are grandparents-to-be this Christmas, how about
the most rewarding for all concerned, so at this time of year, let Granny and Granddad know just how much they’re appreciated and make it a magical Christmas for the whole family.

Parents all over our region have been enrolling their children into a unique martial arts programme that is designed especially for children that isn’t just about kicking and punching, but more about developing positive life skills such as focus, self-discipline and confidence. At Adrenaline Martial Arts the curriculum is based around what they call “Black Belt Attitude” – This is the attitude of never giving up, giving it your best and striving with all the energy in your mind and body! The chief instructor at Adrenaline Martial Arts, Sensei Lydia Nash said, “Our exciting, yet structured and disciplined classes teach children how to focus their attention which improves their ability to learn. We have found that learning builds a real sense of accomplishment in children and with each new accomplishment a child's self-confidence will grow. Once we begin to build a child's confidence we are then able to instil the values of respect, courtesy, honesty and integrity that are the foundations of martial arts dating back thousands of years.” Due to the high level of instruction at Adrenaline Martial Arts classes, places are in high demand and many of their locations are now operating a waiting list. To register your interest for your child you should visit their website at www.blackbeltattitude.co.uk

A wonderful bonding experience and so much more... Despite the days becoming chillier, going to the pool still provides one of the best bonding experiences for you and your baby. Just 30 minutes swimming will provide you both with a great physical work out. This includes exercising muscles you’d never even find on land! Start as early as possible, as the activity is the best all rounder for aiding your baby’s development. A complete physical workout helps to develop the brain and it’s great for building their awareness & helps improve eating & sleeping patterns. It is really important to check that your instructor is fully qualified to teach your baby to swim - especially as there’s no regulation governing baby swimming. Anyone can set up a swim school & start teaching swimming, regardless of their lack of experience. The amazing thing about Water Babies instructors is that they could have qualified twice over as pilots in the time it takes them to complete their training. Call Debi today about a class near you.
