The history of Artificial Intelligence (AI) dates back to the 1950s. when American computer scientist John McCarthy coined the term "Artificial Intelligence" at a conference in Dartmouth, United States. At that time, McCarthy and other researchers believed that it was possible to create machines capable of performing tasks that required human intelligence, such as playing chess, speaking and understanding natural language, recognizing images, among others. In the 1960s and 1970s, there was a huge advance in AI research, with the creation of algorithms and techniques that allowed computers to process information and learn from it. During this period, the first natural language processing systems and the first game programs, such as chess, appeared.

However, AI went through a period of stagnation in the 1980s when existing systems were unable to handle the complexity of real-world data. It was only in the 1990s, with the advancement of computing technology and the emergence of the internet, that AI started to become a viable and affordable technology. Since then, AI has grown rapidly and has become a widely used technology in many areas, such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, among others. The emergence of large amounts of data and the development of machine learning and deep learning algorithms have allowed AI to become even more powerful and sophisticated, making it possible to perform tasks that were previously considered impossible.

A história da Inteligência Artificial (IA) remonta à década de 1950. quando o cientista da computação americano John McCarthy cunhou o termo "Inteligência Artificial" em uma conferência em Dartmouth, Estados Unidos. Naquela época, McCarthy e outros pesquisadores acreditavam que era possível criar máquinas capazes de realizar tarefas que exigiam inteligência humana, como jogar xadrez, falar e entender a linguagem natural, reconhecer imagens, entre outras. Nas décadas de 1960 e 1970, houve um grande avanço nas pesquisas de IA, com a criação de algoritmos e técnicas que permitiam aos computadores processar informações e aprender com elas. Nesse período, surgiram os primeiros sistemas de processamento de linguagem natural e os primeiros programas de jogos, como o xadrez.
