HEALING IN URBAN ENVIRONMENTS _MArch 2017 Thesis My thesis investigation began in the fall of 2016, investigating the qualities of nature and how they have proven to be therapeutic in the healing process. Although, based o my research I gathered that therapeutic space was best created by responding to the nature of rural environments. So why build a healing space in the city? The best medical facilities have proven to be located in urban settings. Unfortunately, these built environments often respond to urban conditions and over-expose the elements of the city. The problem is, city stressors are not conducive for a person healing. How can nature be brought into an urban environment and create a distraction from city stressors? By implementing natural layers that respond to the urban condition, a disconnect is created. The healing space can then directly respond to the natural conditions created and become a facility that focuses on an interior environment.

THESIS STATEMENT Implementing natural + programmatic layers within an urban environment in order to diuse the visual and physical connection between sanctuary and urban intensity.

ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION CENTER _travel studio, fall 2016 This graduate studio spent the ďŹ rst two weeks of the semester studying abroad in Lisbon + Porto, Portugal. The focus of the studio was understanding how architecture works sectionally in the steep terrain of the land. After investigating different methods of sectional connections with topography, my strongest observation focused on the interlocking aspect of land and architecture. By bringing this concept back to a site on the Chestnut Hill Reservoir, I was able to develop an ecological education center that weaved in and out of the edge of the hill creating the ideal programmatic connection to nature.

APARTMENTS AT 81 QUEENSBERRY _spring 2016 In my last undergraduate studio, my class worked alongside the Boston Redevelopment Authority to develop several different proposals for student and elderly micro unit housing. While student and elderly populations possess a large age gap, they require similar housing needs. After investigating the housing typology of the Fenway neighborhood, a concept was developed that proposed several unique options for potential tenants. By pairing 1-2 bed units side by side, temporary walls can be removed to create 2-4 bedroom units if desired. In addition studio apartments could be combined to make a larger 1 bed unit. A conjoining tower housed loft units which were designed to offer more luxury style alternatives. The staggering concept of the project allowed for the building to blend into the existing urban fabric from the street, but offer a new type of social gathering solution for the ally side of the building.

SCHĂ–NBERG DISTRICT CULTURAL CENTER _fall 2015 In order to create curiosity upon the visitors walking nearby the center, a gem had to be created that could be spotted from the multiple paths leading to the complex. By using similar geometric form, material and orientation, a structure is anchored strategically at each point leading to the site. Each building houses a feature corner that gives a by passer the ability to observe program inside. This observation promotes the opportunity for curiosity and the welcome needed for the complex to thrive.

NBHA ADMINISTRATION BUILDING _summer 2015

The drawings on these pages belong to the 100% construction documents, which were developed using DataCAD. This project was an exterior modernization to the Administration OfďŹ ce for the New Bedford Housing Authority. With direction from my mentors at Nault Architects Inc. I was able to develop this project from the schematic design phase to the construction administration phase.

ANNEX BUILDING CONNECTOR _Spring 2015 In the Annex Building Connector project, a series of rules that determined the connection between old and new developed a directive language. Within the three layers of the connector, spaces began to interlock or surround, depending on the program. With having been a comprehensive studio semester, the Annex Building Connector project was thoroughly dissected in the conceptual phase to allow for the design to expand into a professional design submission. With having explored structural systems as well as mechanical systems for the intervention, the ďŹ nal drawings included the investigations found on the following two pages.

BOSTON HARBOR ASSOCIATION HEADQUARTERS _fall 2014 With extensive research on how much Boston will be aected by rising sea levels, creating a building that was adaptable to climate changes was the primary goal of this project. This intervention would provide for short term and longterm solutions beginning with the landscape. By creating tiered garden levels people could occupy the landscape in the time where it does not ood. Eventually the landscape would become apart of the water and the public ground level of the building could be entirely submerged, and the building would still function as the headquarters for the association.

BOSTON STRONG T-SHIRT DESIGN _spring 2013 On April 15th, 2013, the city of Boston experienced one of the most tragic events possible. As students in the city of Boston, a fellow student and myself designed a t-shirt to raise money to help the victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy. After several months this collaborative eort raised over $51,000.
