So What is a Solo Ad? If you’re new to Internet Marketing then you might have heard of people talking about Solo Ads but haven’t really got a clue what they’re about. You’re not alone! I was in the same position not so long ago and to be honest it was something I ignored because I didn’t really understand it, poor excuse I know. I like to think of Solo Ads as renting a subscriber list from another Internet Marketer. In steps: •

You create an email which offers something of value to the reader

The idea is to get that reader to open your email and give them that ‘something of value’ when they click a link in the email and sign up for your newsletter

With Solo Ads, you find an Internet Marketer who is willing to send this email to his subscriber list (for a fee of course!)

Providing you’ve found a reputable Solo Ad seller (more on this later in the book), you could expect a number of additional subscribers to YOUR list All of this is very much dependant on how you approach the above steps (and again, more on this later) The rest of this eBook deals with how to implement the above steps effectively and includes some great resources which can make this process fast and effective. 5

Is Solo Ad Traffic Effective? Is Solo Ad Traffic Effective? Yes it is and what’s more, it’s FAST! But…you need to be aware of a number of things.

Cold Traffic I’ve already explained briefly that Solo Ads generate traffic by someone (on another Internet Marketers list) clicking on the link in your email in the anticipation of receiving something of value. It’s generally accepted online that to make Solo Ads effective, this ‘value’ needs to be in the form of a Freebie such as an eBook, video or email training series, interview with an industry expert etc. So if your main aim is to sell STUFF to your list then you really need to think of this traffic as particularly cold!

Warm them up! So if somethings cold, you warm it up right (in the main!). And that’s the same with the new subscribers to your list who have arrived because of your Solo Ad. Think of it like this: •

In their mind they are only after freebies and they’ll take yours “thanks very much…” 6

Jon Crimes

But…there’s a reason why they’re on an Internet Marketing (substitute your niche here!) email list in the first place, they want to learn/make money/give up their job/become better at... etc.

If you treat these new subscribers in the right way, warm them up with useful information which they can action and see results from, then their confidence in you is going to increase It’s all about building a good relationship with them before they are ready to part with the hard cash!

Keep expectations realistic Not everyone who receives your email offer is going to open it and if they do you’ll probably get a percentage of those that unsubscribe straight after getting your Freebie. Saying that, I personally believe that in the main, human curiosity will kick in here and your new subscriber will be intrigued about who you are and what you can offer them in the future! That might mean some more Freebies, maybe a series of emails which give them ‘valuable’ training in some way, again all free of course, but keep that value coming and you’ll start to find some of these subscribers start to trust you enough to buy the latest hot product from you.

Quick Tip Once you’ve done all this hard work of warming up your new subscribers make sure your first ‘sale’ email is: 7

Relevant to what they want and what they have been eagerly accepting as freebies, just make sure it’s something extra special that they really can’t do without!

Creating a Successful Solo Ad Campaign Here we are going to talk about how to approach the creation of a Solo Ad email and how to make sure it matches the audience you’re after? Finding Solo Ad sellers and other resources will be discussed later. My personal rules for creating Solo Ads:

The Subject Line As with any email it’s the subject line which gets readers to open that email in the first place. Sounds obvious but I’ve been guilty in the past of forgetting this and concentrating too much on the main body of the email, only to have a very poor ‘Email Open Rate’. Some tips to help with the Subject Line: •

Make it appealing to the reader but keep it as short and sweet as possible

Relevancy? Make sure that what the reader see’s is what they are going to get when they click on your email!

I hate it when I think I’m going to receive the latest Internet Marketing news only to find that the email itself is completely ‘off topic’ and then I’m automatically redirected to a gambling site!

Get some great inspiration from some of your market leaders!

If you haven’t already, I would strongly suggest that you subscribe to the email lists of some of the more established people in your niche. Don’t copy directly what they’re doing but more how they’re doing it! Do their Subject Lines make you want to open that email and why? 9

Test on your family or friends!

The Body of the Email You’ve done the hard work and managed to get someone to open your email, make sure you don’t throw it all away when they come to the email itself! Email Body Tips:

• Make it interesting but fun! Don’t let them click away, or possibly worse, fall asleep, half way through your email. •

Use Simple words and provide that all important Valuable information to your reader. Tell them very briefly what the problem is and how your offer is going to solve it for them.

Do not confuse the reader! Everything in your email has to be written with one purpose in mind, to get them to take action and head for your free offer. Don’t write off topic, make it all relevant.

Links! There’s probably quite a few people out there who have produced an email masterpiece only to send out the Solo Ad and then remember “Oh no, I forgot to include the links…”.

The solution to this is to test…

Send the email to yourself. Have you put in the links, do they work and while you’re at it, check the rest of the email for relevancy and errors as well.

Your Target Audience You should be thinking about your Target Audience all the time, well ok, most of the time! Here are some questions that I tend to ask myself: 1. Who do I eventually want on my list? 10

Solo Ad Secrets

Jon Crimes

2. Does my Solo Ad match this requirement? 3. When I’m looking to buy a Solo Ad ‘slot’ off another Marketer, does their list of subscribers match the people that I want on my list? With Solo Ads you’re spending money to drive traffic to your site/list; it certainly pays to make that traffic relevant.

Solo Ad Example Now’s probably a good time to show an example of a Solo Ad that has worked for me! Subject: 5 Fantastic Methods to Drive Super-Fast Traffic to your List

Hey {!firstname_fix}, You need to check out this free report that shares 5 superb traffic generating methods which will grow your list at lightning-fast speed. *Link to your site/squeeze page* *the name of the Solo Ad list owner P.S. After signing up, you’ll have instant access to this super report, free to you today…

Notes: Let’s break down this Solo Ad and add some notes: Subject: 5 Fantastic Methods to Drive Super-Fast Traffic to your List The Subject Line is following the rules we talked about before: 1. It’s short and to the point 2. It’s relevant to the main body of the email 3. It grabs attention 4. It implies real value to the reader in return for their time! Hey {!firstname_fix}, Keep it personal! Everyone likes to see their name on an email and it’s the first step in building a relationship with your new subscriber. You need to check out this free report that shares 5 superb traffic generating methods which will grow your list at lightning-fast speed. 12

This implies that the list owner is endorsing this free report; they’ve read it and think it will be great for the members of their list. /////Link to your site/squeeze page\\\\\ The Link! Don’t forget to insert your link. It’s also a good idea to make this link trackable as well (more about this later). /////The name of the Solo Ad list owner\\\\\

By placing the list owners name at the bottom of the email this installs extra confidence that the newsletter author actually recommends this product. P.S. After signing up, you’ll have instant access to this super report, free to you today…

How many times have you seen a P.S, P.P.S (or more) in an email? These do a few things, they: 1. Generate extra curiosity with the reader 2. Allows you to summarise the important parts of the email 3. Creates a sense of urgency! It’s worth taking a bit of extra time with these ‘sign offs’ as quite often it will be the last thing your reader see’s in the email and it can make all the difference between a click and the back button.

Where to Buy Solo Ads? Because Solo Ads cost money, you definitely need to shop at the best places for them. I have three recommendations which have proved to be cost effective and I have no hesitation in stating that these are very reputable sites.

Facebook You might have heard of them? What Facebook does have which I find particularly good is a group called Solo Ad Testimonials: https://www.facebook.com/groups/SoloAdsTestimonials/ Here you can: Look at the comments from buyers. These aren’t your standard Facebook comments by the way but you soon get used to the format, an example: Seller: Toby Jug Clicks Ordered: 100 Clicks received: 111 <<— Sweet OD! Tier 1: 88% <<— Sweet!! Opt-ins: 43% ... Here the buyer has commented on the buyer’s name, how many clicks they got compared to how many they paid for, the percentage of Tier 1 traffic (which relates to traffic from Tier 1 countries – USA,UK,CAN, AU, NZ) and the percentage of Opt-ins. This is a great place to see which Solo Ad Sellers might take your interest and then contact them direct.

Solo Ad Testimonials Solo Ad Testimonials also have their own site: http://soloadtestimonials.com/ This expands nicely on what you can see on Facebook and gives you: 1. The Top 10 Sellers from the previous month 2. Live testimonials 14

3. A superb ‘Solo Ad Black List’. Very useful if you don’t want to be ripped off?

Udimi Udimi is well worth a look and a nice addition to the above sites. https://udimi.com/ What I would say is join the site (it’s free, although you need to add funds to become verified) and have a good look at some of the sellers. A nice thing about this site is the ‘Search Parameters’ option. Here you can adjust the search to meet your niche and other requirements and when you click on a particular Seller, you get details like: •

List size

Nic

Tier 1 percentage

And recommendation level

he

These 3 sites will probably have you covered, at least to begin with.

But a word of caution! Make use of the Black List function of http://soloadtestimonials.com/, it could save you a lot of time and money!

Tracking your Solo Ad Performance! Tracking what your Solo Ad is doing is very important if you are going to get the most out of this traffic generation method.

Knowing if that traffic you have paid for is effective for your business and what the quality of that traffic is like can stop you using someone’s Solo Ad service if it just isn’t working for you as it should.

It’s important to know if the Solo Ad Seller is delivering:

• Fewer clicks than you have purchased •

Clicks of such a low quality that they’re not worth bothering with, or…

Clicks that are fake, generated by ‘bots’ etc.

Fortunately, there is software that can help you monitor these ‘clicks’ and give you a clear picture of what is happening with your Solo Ad. Like with most things, there are both Free and Paid versions to be had! But if you’re going to be doing Solo Ads full time, I would seriously suggest that you take a look at one or two of the dedicated Paid sites that offer far more flexibility and functionality than the Free alternatives. Here’s some Link Tracking Services you can check out:

Free Link Tracking Link Track

Paid Link Tracking Click Magick Take a look at both of these services and see which one most meets your needs at the moment. Click Magick will save you time and money in the long run but if you’re starting out on a strict budget, the free service is certainly better than not tracking your Solo Ad at all!

Your Solo Ads are working! Now what? So you’re Solo Ad did what it was meant to do and you’ve received tons of visitors to your site and many subscribers to your ever growing list! But is doesn’t end there, don’t forget to: •

Keep track of which Solo Ad Sellers have been really working for you! Avoid thinking “what was his/her name again?

Give them prompt customer feedback and make sure they know you’’ll be back for more soon.

Take time to frequently scan through the Blacklist on Solo Ad Testimonials, there’ll be times when you’re glad you did!

And what about you’re new subscribers? You’ll probably see your subscriber numbers fluctuate a bit as a few drop out now and again but providing you warm them up slowly, make them feel valued and offer them material which is relevant to what they first signed up for, you should be able to nurture a loyal and willing bunch of subscribers. Who will be simply begging you to take their cash…
