INTRODUCTION/ Speakers

The Innovation Campus at Northeastern University Bridging the Gap to Industry 4

www.jonesarch.com

1. Explore potential partnering opportunities with industry to look at research initiatives, preparing students for the workplace, and shared revenue streams. 2. Discuss the pitfalls and opportunities of a core and shell approach to laying the ground work for future lab and research build-outs. 3. Rethink off-campus buildings and infrastructure otherwise thought to be obsolete or destined for demolition and consider opportunities or uses that can bring unique value to the University. 4. Consider satellite campuses as a shared space between the University and private industry. Discuss how procurement, design process, and construction differ between these worlds

ELLIOTT HALL

CRISIS RESPONSE CENTER FALL 2016

5,500 GSF indoor / 30,000 GSF outdoor Re-purposing of an existing auditorium for use as an indoor/ outdoor Unmanned Aerial System flight area; required coordination of intricate monitoring systems including radio antenna, high resolution cameras, and strobe lights.

VCC PHASE II

2,800 GSF Planning study of flexible emergency response training space in which teams simulate disaster conditions and evaluate team reaction in real time; the space opens up to host larger workshops, training, or symposiums.

40,000 GSF

TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPE LAB

A study to re-purpose the remainder of Elliott Hall to serve as leased space to start up companies. Similar in concept to the VCC in the Barracks Building

3,000 GSF Houses a highly sensitive microscope and observation room for the study of materials at an atomic level; required carefully calculated interior envelope to support the cooling and air-supply systems which allow the air in the space to maintain extremely tight tolerances in temperature and air movement.

Accelerating University projects to the pace of private business takes creative project delivery more than creative design. - Design Build Approach - Early CMGC partnership - Flexibility on all sides of the table - Being nimble is important
