(A/RES/71/313). As an improved version of the MDGs, some of the shortcomings of MDGs have been addressed by the indicators in the SDGs (Guppy et al., 2019). The succeeding SDGs make a strong commitment to universal provision for many basic services with a focus on peace and prosperity, and with an additional emphasis on the climate change and the environment (UN, n.d.). One of the significant differences from the previous MDGs is that there is an independent goal for water and sanitation in the SDGs. The SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation for all, also known as ‘the water goal,’ compose of eight targets and eleven indicators aim “to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030” (UN, n.d.). The detailed targets and indicators, as well as custodian agencies, for the SDG 6 are presented in Table 3.
