WORKING FROM
HOME
For some it’s a 9-5 place of business, for others it’s a place to pay the bills. Charlotte Starling looks at the home office.
It’s easy to let a home office slide to the bottom of the decorating to-do list, but how this space is arranged and decorated can greatly impact productivity. The luxury of a home office is that you are based in the comfort of your own home. Don’t be afraid to forgo typical office furniture in favour of a style that blends with the rest of your home. A simple streamlined desk can be accessorised with non-business items so it remains in tune with the rest of the room. Not everyone has a large space dedicated solely to a home office and luckily, nowadays technology and gadgets are increasingly diminishing in size, which means we don’t necessarily need a separate office or study. Any neglected nook can be used as a work space – perhaps a quiet corner in an open
Neatly stacked boxes are a moveable and practical solution. Pile them high or in a long row for a smart look. Metal shelving designed for catering and industrial use, school lockers, and filing cabinets are alternatives to mass-produced units and add character to your interior. Avoid clutter pile-ups by placing another work surface near your main desk. This keeps your computer surround clean and clear, and provides dedicated space where you can spread out. It also encourages home workers to step away from the computer every once in a while. Avoid blanket overhead lighting. Maximise natural light but avoid glare. Fluorescent strip lighting in particular is bad news and proven to cause headaches. A good, clear task-light like a small spot or anglepoise is important. Pay attention to how you feel after a few hours at your desk. If anything is aching, it’s time to check the ergonomics of your set-up. Comfort is key and it is important to allow clearance space underneath when seated at your desk. Chair height, lumbar support and screen alignment can all be adjusted or adapted.
plan room. To help the ‘office’ blend in, consider using furniture that is dual purpose. Use a few space saving tricks to create privacy and peace. Try an open-backed bookcase as a room divider, or a strategically positioned decorative screen. If you have high ceilings you could build a platform as an office area in a room. Make a guest room that doubles as a home office appear more welcoming by concealing files or equipment inside an antique armoire or with a curtain made from vintage fabric.
Finally, surround yourself with things you love. Hide anything ugly like technical equipment or bulky folders and give favourite colours, artwork, photos, plants and personal items pride of place. This will all help in making your office an integral part of your home.
The secret to working happily at home is well-thought-out storage – and plenty of it. 4 |

NEW ON THE SCENE LIGHT ART
Do you need a statement piece to liven up your lounge? If you’re looking for a floor lamp that’s different, wants to be noticed, is fun and completely attention-seeking, then this is it. It may come at a price, but the Designer Lighting Swarovski Crystal Floor Lamp is sassy and full of good looks. It definitely insists that everyone should stand and stare – even with the light off. Switched on, it sparkles brilliantly courtesy of the shade made from masses of glass balls and Strass crystals with coloured Swarovski crystaldroplets, all on a highly polished chrome metal base. The lamp evokes images of 1920s glamour, the perfect way to inject allure into your home. The Designer Lighting Swarovski Crystal Floor Lamp is an investment at £4,500. See www.desresdesign.co.uk.
SLEEK BEANS CAPTIVATING COPPER
The Albion Bath Co is committed to using modern technology to improve traditional designs, as with their brand new polished copper finish which took 14 months of development. This show-stopping finish can be applied to all of Albion’s free-standing baths. Copper creates timeless appeal with warm colours, but it has a few inherent problems. Despite its exquisite looks, it typically tarnishes requiring lacquering. This lacquer can break down with aggressive cleaning, exposing the raw copper and leaving a dull bath. Copper also hardens with age – over time it becomes brittle and can split. However, Albion has developed a system to overcome these problems. A fine layer of powdered copper is applied to the bath’s exterior surface. This is polished to a reflective shine and a cohesive glaze is applied. This coating is resistant to bathroom cleaners and will not flake away from the copper coating, leaving you with a gleaming bathtub for years to come.
Fully aware of an object’s narrative ability, Sicilian architect Mario Trimarchi has designed the “Ossidiana” espresso coffee maker for Italian design company Alessi. Like Trimarchi’s other design projects, this one is based on memories and fragments of images, told through the form of an article. Ossidiana embraces the memory of the various sides of the traditional moka coffee pot and those of obsidian, the volcanic stone it is named after. The sleek coffee maker is cast in polished aluminium, while the handle and knob are in thermoplastic resin. The boiler and collecting chamber are sculpted while the ergonomics are enhanced to ensure easy and safe handling. The coffee maker suits a sophisticated kitchen.
This service is priced at £1,078. See www.albionbathco.com for details.
The Ossidiana is available online at www.store.alessi.com. Prices vary from £35 to £56 depending on the model. co.uk for details.

FROM THE FOUNDRY FLOOR
Taking the Victorian industrial era into the 21st Century, Premier Housewares’ Foundry Collection cleverly unites the toughness of the factory floor in its robust metal frames with warm solid fir wood. The fir wood’s natural grain finish softens the range while maintaining the industrial look and giving it an inviting homely finish. Premier’s Foundry collection makes a stylish and practical addition to any room, or it can be used to create a unique style throughout a house. With over 20 items in the range – from lights, mirrors, desks and tables to chairs and book cases – you can bring a striking industrial look to your home. The range is easy to maintain – simply dust it and you’re done. Fir Wood is strong, stable and resistant to staining. The range is affordable with prices starting at £130 for the lamp rising to £950 for the storage unit. See www.aplaceforeverything.co.uk for details.

IN STYLE
Want to be James Bond for a day? Or perhaps Lewis Hamilton is more your style? No matter who your hero is, you can hire a vehicle to suit from Bespokes. Giselle Whiteaker gets behind the wheel.
The raindrops drizzle down the windscreen of the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster and are gently swiped aside by the efficient windscreen wipers. I could have picked a better day to take the Roadster from Bespokes out for a test drive, but then, I’m seated comfortably in the lap of luxury, the heated seat warming my rear at the perfect temperature and the leather steering wheel pliant under my fingers, so perhaps this isn’t such a bad idea. Hitting the red-rimmed crystal ignition button and hearing the powerful 4.7-litre V8 engine wake with a roar was the best part of my week. 8 |
Bespokes has the largest privately owned Aston Martin fleet in the country and the superb piece of silver machinery I’m enfolded in is the limited edition N400. Built to commemorate Aston Martin’s racing successes at the Nürburgring circuit, where it was able to complete a lap in under eight minutes, only 240 of these were released in 2007 – and they sold out instantly. It’s hard to say whether it’s the sleek lines, the comfortable interior, or the signature exhaust note when it clears its throat past 5000rpm that thrill the most. I suspect it’s the top speed of 177mph and the capability of 0-60 in a rapid 4.9 seconds that gets the heart-rate going, but I won’t be setting
any land-speed records today. I’m off for a Sunday drive. Knowing the price tag of the wheel I’m behind, I’m extra cautious navigating through the London traffic, but out on the motorway the car surges forward as if of its own accord, and it excels. Cruising at the speed limit is comfortable, but the Vantage wants to go faster. It’s in its DNA. The V8 Vantage quickly became Aston’s most successful car and rightly so. This limited edition drop-top version makes me want to sign a £100,000-plus cheque on the spot. It’s stylish yet subtle, powerful yet sensitive and luxurious yet not ostentatious. PROPERTY SCENE WINTER 2014/15
| MOTORING |
The ride is supple and the steering precise. It’s everything I could ever want to be and it turns heads wherever it travels. At the flick of a switch, the fabric hood can be tucked away in 14-seconds, even when driving at speeds of up to 30mph. Luckily for me, the rain eases off, and despite the soon-to-be-winter chill in the air, I can’t resist pressing all the buttons. Sure enough, the hood elegantly folds into the boot and I let the wind swirl through
my hair for a few miles, turning up the seatheating to compensate. Like most people, when I think of Aston Martin I think of James Bond and while I’m not the action-hero type, the N400 makes me feel like a Bond girl. This is the whole point of hiring a prestige car – it’s the thrill of being someone else for the day, or the week, as well as the sheer thrill of handling all that power. “The thought of driving a high-performance Sports, Luxury
or Supercar is just a dream for many people, so short-term self-drive hire can make it a reality. Unlike the numerous racetrack based events that are offered, hiring gives the driver the chance to be totally independent and experience what it is like to own one of these amazing cars and drive wherever they want on the open-road,” explains Daniel Cullen from Bespokes. Besides the Aston Martin temporarily in my possession, Bespokes have a stock of around 50 vehicles, ranging from classic sports cars such as a 1969 Jaguar E-Type and an Austin Healey through to the Maserati Gran Cabrio Sport and Lotus Exige – just to name a few. “Our Jaguar E-Type and Morgans are extremely popular in the summer months. The Aston Martin Vantage and DBS are favourites for weddings and the Ferrari 458 Italia Spider and McLaren MP4-12C are for those who want to experience the pinnacle of Supercar driving. We are also the only company to offer a range of TVR and Lotus models which are always popular,” Daniel explains. It’s not all about tootling along the A-roads on the weekend either, or opening up the throttle when no-one is looking. Bespokes also run a series of Activity Days, from Sports Car Days, which offer a full day’s on-road driving on a spectacular route through the beautiful Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire countryside, to Supercar Days, where participants drive eight Supercars over 150 miles on public roads, spending at least six hours in the cars. “We often get people on birthday treats, pairs or friends wanting to share an experience, or team-building exercises run by small

| MOTORING |
businesses and large corporations,” comments Daniel. The N400 is swaying me towards the Aston Martin adventure for a true James Bond experience. This involves a treasure hunt, searching for clues and swapping vehicles at locations en-route, so that every participant can experience their own version of Bond – perhaps from behind the wheel of the Aston Martin Vanquish as the action hero did in Die Another Day. Even with these extended experiences, there’s no clear winner on the preferred car model. “There is no exact science as to people’s choices and we often get very different feedback, but the fast and noisy ones like our Lamborghini LP560 Spider and the raw drive appeal felt in our TVR Sagaris are often favourites,” says Daniel. He’s done thousands of miles in all the cars understanding the particular feel and experience of each one. “Our McLaren MP4-12C in stunning Volcano Orange is definitely a car that still excites me. The incredible on-board technology and design make this car as easy and enjoyable to drive
10 |
at slow speeds around town - if you don’t mind being pointed at and photographed – but then it turns into an incredible beast on the open road, leaving pretty much everything behind that it passes.” I am already becoming far too fond of my 24-hour Aston Martin Vantage, although I’d consider opting for a rock-star moment with the Ferrari 430 Spider or perhaps I
could pretend to be a sporting hero in the Porsche 997 Turbo Roadster. Then there’s the classic styling of the Morgan +8, with its modernised 40-year-old design packing a V8. That will definitely be my summer pick. In the meantime, Bespokes offer gift certificates if you’re wondering what to get me for Christmas.
The powerful 4.7-litre engine wakes with a roar All Bespokes’ cars include insurance for up to four drivers, 150 free miles for 24 hours, 300 for the weekend and 700 for a week. Delivery and collection can be arranged anywhere in the UK and Europe including all airports and railway stations. The cars can be driven on the continent and those with foreign licenses are welcome. SOUK DINING
| CUISINE |
Comptoir Libanais is a colourful take on Middle-Eastern cuisine. Dine in, or try these Arabian delicacies at home. Giselle Whiteaker performs a taste test. Restaurateur Tony Kitous is a force to be reckoned with. He is credited with single-handedly – apart from the teams manning his kitchens – putting glamour back into Middle Eastern cuisine. He’s been fuelling the surge in popularity of Arabian flavours for over a decade, with his London-based Levant and Kenza restaurants and his HighStreet Comptoir Libanais canteens. The popularity of these casual eateries can’t be understated – they’re popping up everywhere, from Heathrow Airport to Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent. “Lebanese cuisine has always been popular but it has never had the opportunity to be made accessible to the Western world,” says Kitous. “It is only in the last few years that a few operators started this Middle Eastern food revolution and to be honest, it’s long overdue. It’s a no brainer that it has such a broad appeal – it’s healthy, light, fresh and vegetarian friendly. Mezze is amazing for sharing and it’s very simple and affordable.” Kitous wanted to make Arabic food as accessible as Italian, and he’s succeeding. When my friend Steve and I drop in to the Soho canteen it’s packed and the hum of exuberant chatter adds to the buzz of the proceedings. The brightly-lit open-plan space is animated with splashes of colour; bright orange tables match the uniforms of the waiting staff and a pop-art style mural adorns one wall. It’s so unashamedly upbeat that it’s almost like walking into a comic book.
There’s a touch of the souk, with embroidered handbags, silver teapots, and ingredients for home cooking lined up on shelves, begging to be bought. Naturally, there’s also a rack of Kitous’ new Comptoir Libanais Express cookbook, crammed with 80 recipes which combine fresh vegetable dishes with simple grills, flat breads, grains, herb salads and dips. “I always wanted to create a Middle Eastern cookbook that helps educate and promote our food and culture. The first cookbook was so popular and helped many people understand more about our traditions as well as giving them the confidence to make Lebanese food at home. The second book was a response to the many requests of our guests to learn more about dishes that are not commonly seen in restaurants. I’ve made sure that all the dishes are simple to make at home to suit the busy lifestyle we all lead,” explains Kitous. Today though, we are here to dine. We’re leaving the cooking to the efficient staff, who fly around the kitchen whipping up their special brand of Arabian goodness in minutes. I’m still on my first sip of the crisp white wine from Lebanon that was recommended by our friendly server when our starters promptly arrive, right on time. “Lebanese cuisine is divided into many categories: mezze, which is for the Lebanese what tapas is for the Spanish; grills, salads, stews, pulses and a huge selection of sweets and desserts. There is a

heavy use of spices to season and marinate dishes as well as for salad dressings and dips. There are certain ingredients that are not commonly used in British dishes, such as tahina, zaatar, sumac and pomegranate molasses,” explains Kitous. We’re keen to sample dishes that feature these uncommon ingredients and we choose a selection of traditional mezze to whet our appetites: falafel (chickpea patties), cheese sambousek (bite-sized pastry-wrapped cheese) and a trio of dips – hommous, labneh and baba ghanoush. Every morsel is mouth-watering. The dips are full of flavour, the falafel are deliciously moist and the sambousek parcels dribble satisfyingly tangy cheese into our maws and erupt with a warm bite, courtesy of the accompanying chili sauce. “Our dishes are very authentic but, like any other cuisines from all over the world, there are always innovations and we will never stop,” says Kitous. Based on these mezze, every word rings true. The foundations are traditional, but the accompaniments add the unmistakable Comptoir flair. We’ve already discovered the downside to Arabian eating – we’re fast filling up and we’re only a third of the way through. Given our shared passion for dessert, we decide to split a main to save digestive space, and we opt for moussakhan, a portion of chicken spiced with pomegranate and cinnamon. The delicate piquancy of my rose and rum dacquiri acts as the perfect palate cleanser. The chicken looks quite ordinary. It’s accompanied by a mound of rice and a side portion of fattoush, a sumac-tinged crisp salad. Our expectations are low as we take our first bites. As my taste buds kick into overdrive I watch Steve’s reaction. His eyes widen as he chews, savouring this teaser. “First I thought lemon, then I thought barbecue. Then I didn’t know what to think,” he says excitedly, diving in for another helping. The sticky pomegranate gives an unusual tang to the succulent meat, which dissolves in the mouth, leaving a cinnamon puff as the aftertaste. It’s delicious and we devour every last molecule. The dessert menu features an intriguing combination of traditional Arabic treats and more avant garde fusion flavours. After considerable debate, we settle on the light, fat-free frozen yoghurt, with banana, honey and toasted sesame seeds to finish things off nicely. When it arrives, our server places an additional plate on the table – a wedge of orange and almond cake. “You just have to try this. It’s amazing,” she says with a wink. She’s right. While the yoghurt dish is sumptuously soothing, the moist wheat-free cake is pure a delight, packed with citrus punch.
Tony Kitous (right) in the kitchen
The end of the night at Comptoir Libanais in Soho
Kitous is spot on. The joy of Middle-Eastern cuisine is in its simplicity. As we turn our backs on the bright lights of Comptoir Libanais, we are completely sated. I already know which Comptoir dish we’re trying next time – it’s the cinnamon-marinated quail on page 146 of the cookbook I have tucked under my arm.
The foundations are traditional, but the accompaniments add the unmistakable Comptoir flair For more information about Comptoir Libanais see www.lecomptoir.co.uk 44 |

SPICED MUSHROOM AND PINE NUT OMELETTE
| CUISINE |
Done well, omelettes can be deliciously satisfying and hugely indulgent. Think of the eggs as a blank canvas – they’re simply a base to which you can add all kinds of ingredients. There are infinite varieties of omelettes in Lebanon which could constitute a book. Here, Tony Kitous has gone for a version that uses his favourite tastes and textures, but feel free to experiment with your own.
Ingredients Serves 2
Olive oil, for frying 2 large field mushrooms 2 spring onions, roughly chopped 15g pine nuts 2 tsp ground coriander 2 good pinches of dried chilli 2 good pinches of chopped thyme 6 large eggs Small handful of chopped coriander Salt and ground black pepper
Heat a little oil in a large frying pan, with a lid, over a medium to high heat. Cook the mushrooms, stalk-side up, for about 10 minutes, until they soften and colour. Lift them out of the pan and on to a plate, then add a little more oil to the pan and stir-fry the spring onions and pine nuts until softened and golden. Give the pan a good shake to flip the ingredients around, then return the mushrooms to the pan. Scatter over the ground coriander, chilli and thyme and give everything a good stir again with a wooden spoon so the vegetables are well flavoured with the spices. Crack the eggs into a large bowl, throw in a good pinch of salt and whisk together. Pour into the pan, tucking the runny egg in and around the vegetables. Use the wooden spoon to draw the setting egg away from the edge of the pan and allow the runny egg to fall into it and cook. Continue to do that until the omelette is looking thick and rippled all over. At this point, clamp a lid on top, turn the heat down low and allow the top to set. Scatter over the coriander then divide into two and serve.

COTTAGES
Tucked away in locations up and down the country are myriad properties with unique and distinctive features. Faith Back discovers a few gems currently on the market.
Walking Stick Cottage, Gloucestershire
Cottages with natural charm can be found in abundance in the UK. Wherever you are looking to make your home, you are almost certain to find your own jewel of a property. Whether it’s a bijou cottage or something larger and grander, each will have its own history and character features that make it unique. If you are looking for something cosy and quaint in the Cotswolds, then Walking Stick Cottage may be the perfect answer. This delightful Grade II listed detached home is located in the village of South Woodchester between Stroud and Nailsworth in Gloucestershire. The garden to the rear overlooks the Nailsworth Stream and an adjacent former mill, known locally as the “old walking stick factory”. The cottage once served as its management office – hence the name – and the original safe is still set in the exposed stone wall of the sitting room to one side of a lovely inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove. A flagstone-floored entrance hall opens to the dining area of the sitting room, which in turn gives access to a bright, contemporary fitted kitchen.
The sitting room has windows to two aspects, while to one side of the inglenook a stone spiral staircase rises to the first floor. Here, the dual aspect master bedroom has built-in wardrobes and a feature fireplace with a tall stone mantel above. The adjoining modern bathroom features two stained-glass porthole windows, which light the wooden spiral stairs that lead to two second-floor bedrooms with more exposed stone walls, beams and stone mullion windows. ESTATE ESCAPE
Sitting on the fringe of the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire, the Cavendish Hotel is a treat – in more ways than one. Giselle Whiteaker indulges.
The Cavendish Hotel
It is dark when we arrive at the Cavendish Hotel near Baslow in Derbyshire. My friend Andy I are taking a mid-week break from the city, and spilling out into the quiet cool night air, we agree this is a good decision. The hotel’s stone façade is bathed in warm, golden light beaming through the windows, enticing us into the cosy interior. Richard, the Cavendish’s assistant manager, guides us through the hotel’s picture-packed passageways; the history of the family-line told in the images on the walls. Our recently refurbished room is a delight, balancing the history of the hotel with contemporary conveniences. Not that we stay here long. Our stomachs are rumbling, leading us back to the lobby to make a dining decision. Taking our attire into consideration, we choose casual, claiming a 48 |
window seat in the Garden Restaurant and gazing out into the night. This conservatory-like space offers a menu filled with favourites. Andy selects fishcakes while I opt for the comfort of the steak burger. The fishcakes are large, pleasantly crisp on the outside with a creamy filling, while the burger ranks high on the list of world’s best. The freshly ground steak is cooked medium, beautifully tender, yet keeping its form. With melted cheese, garlic mayonnaise and a selection of heritage tomatoes in a variety of hues, it is simply delicious. The Cavendish Hotel has a long history. There has been an Inn here for so long it is uncertain when it was built. Originally the famous Peacock Inn, it was the property of the Duke of Rutland and served the turnpike between industrial Chesterfield and the spa town of Buxton. It became the Duke of Devonshire’s property around 1830 PROPERTY SCENE WINTER 2014/15

and in the early 1970’s was rebuilt as the Cavendish by Chatsworth Estates, faithfully restoring the historic character of the building. The decoration was supervised by the late Deborah Duchess of Devonshire who introduced many objects and pieces of furniture from Chatsworth. More recent refurbishments have been overseen by Amanda Duchess of Devonshire. Today, the hotel exudes a quiet elegance with an extensive collection of original artwork, antiques and charming furnishings that lure guests to linger. The view over the open Derbyshire landscape is equally as enticing. It is over these fields that we traipse the next morning, following the path to Chatsworth House.
Chatsworth is home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The house has over 30 rooms to explore, each packed with treasures. We start at the magnificent Painted Hall, a gallery in its own right, before following the recommended route through the regal State Rooms, the Guest Rooms, the Sculpture Gallery and Sketch Galleries, packed with priceless artworks. Chatsworth is home to one of Europe’s most significant art collections encompassing works by the Old Masters, contemporary ceramics, artefacts from Ancient Egypt, and modern sculptures, amongst others.
It is over these fields that we traipse the next morning, following the path to Chatsworth House. Passing through the kissing gate, we find ourselves meandering through the grounds, placid sheep graze on the grasslands, unperturbed by our presence. In the distance we spot a herd of deer, and birds flutter from tree to tree. It’s an idyllic scene, presided over by the vast property.
Hand-dived seared scallops
The character-packed rooms at the Cavendish
Chatsworth is known for its programme of art exhibitions and we catch the tail end of Sotheby’s Beyond Limits, a contemporary sculpture exhibition, with artworks dotted throughout the spectacular gardens. We while away several hours here, roaming through the kitchen gardens, the rockery, the rose garden and the ponds. We stroll the length of the Canal Pond, the fountain spraying a plume of water into the wind, and get lost on the maze, stopping to admire the Cascade, a decorative waterway that burbles down a gentle slope. As dusk falls we warm our hands on a coffee and peruse the outlets in the old stables. Night comes as something of a surprise. We were not expecting to fill the whole day here, but it has been a fascinating look into a former time. As we make our way back through the semi-dark fields, we find the deer herd has moved and is now grazing along our path. We pass close enough to admire the stags’ branched antlers and not long afterwards we see the lights of the Cavendish Hotel, guiding us towards dinner.

Seated at a cosy table near the crackling open fire in the Cavendish’s Gallery Restaurant, we examine the menu and quickly realise we are in for a treat. We had been anticipating traditional cuisine, done well, but instead Head Chef Michael Thompson has created an array of contemporary dishes, promising intriguing flavours. Andy selects Heritage Tomatoes as an entrée, a dish which includes an airily light tomato essence terrine, a flavour-packed olive tapenade and mozzarella tart – naturally topped with juicy red tomatoes – a dollop of fragrant basil ice-cream, and a shot glass with a refreshing hit of clear gazpacho. I am tempted by the Foie Gras, duck and prune terrine, but a last minute change of heart sees my palate tantalised with hand-dived seared scallops, tumbling off a disk of black pudding, with artistic splotches of cauliflower puree. On the side is a serving of something that looks like white pork crackling and explodes into a salty tang on the tongue.

The stunning grounds
We are keen to explore these fascinating flavours further. The roasted venison loin piques Andy’s interest, the tender pink meat served on rich haunch bolognaise with celeriac, beetroot, cherries and chocolate adding to the decadent flavours. The roasted loin of lamb melts in my mouth, along with the accompanying feta braised lamb shoulder, served with smoked aubergine and marinated courgettes. Andy completes his repast with a wedge of moist Pecan Pie with chilled blackberries and salted brown butter ice-cream, while I indulge in the sweet tartness of the Tasting of Granny Smith apple, served with vanilla bean ice-cream and accompanied by a cinnamon stick doughnut and a shot of cider mulled wine. It is a fitting end to a phenomenal meal and we roll away from the table beaming smiles of contentment. We are still full at breakfast the next day. Before we know it, it’s time to head back to reality.
