Clemson Student Chapel Trinity Chapel 4th Year Undergraduate - Fall 2013
The Clemson Student Chapel was envisioned by Clemson University to be a non-denominational chapel for ceremonies and memorial services to students, faculty, alumni, and the community. The form of the building was determined by the geometry of the view corridor that split the site. The building was designed to take advantage of the views toward Lee III, the most recent School of Architecture building, as well as the University Organic Farm to the south of the site. The plan of the chapel is based off of a 12’ triangular grid. The various program spaces of the chapel are then divided based on this grid. The roof of the chapel is designed to allow the maximum amount of views toward the organic farm. It is made of glue-lam beams to provide an experiential connection to the groves of trees outside and to give a sense of branches overhead. These beams are aligned along the grid to give a feeling of unity and completeness to the viewer.
