Pensioner and full time sand artist The art to "paint" with sand. These art pieces are "painted" with a selection out of more than a hundred natural colours and textures of sand, fine stones and ground, collected from all over Southern Africa and Namibia. No artificial colours, dyes or other materials were used. These permanent coloured ingredients were collected from nature over a period of almost 30 years. The base consist of Masonite, sanded on the smooth side, strong glue and an all over foundation layer of a neutral fine sand. Starting with the background, layer after layer is put on. This entails to apply the right strength of glue for that area and that particular texture of sand, and then to sprinkle the sand with thumb and forefinger on that area. Tap the board underneath to ensure an even layer, tip over to recover the unused sand. Each colour is left to dry properly, brushed and vacuumed before the next.
