Exploring New York State in the Fall Jordan Douglas Brown

Introduction When planning a trip to the United States, many plan to go during the summer months. However, the autumn months are just as fun, especially on the east coast. From late September to late November, fall arrives and brings with it cooler temperatures and the colors of fall foliage. Aside from New York City, New York State offers a variety of activities and places to explore during these crisp months. Fall is also a great time for being outdoors since you don’t have to worry about the extreme hot and cold temperatures. Let’s check out some places and activities that are perfect for the fall weather in New York.

New Paltz, NY This charming town is small but makes up for it in food, music, and entertainment. The historic Huguenot Street is a ten-acre landmark that takes you back to the 18th century. You’ll find a reconstructed 1717 Huguenot church along with archaeological sites, tours, an exhibit and more. Take a stroll down Main Street to check out the many cafes and shops.

Picking Apples There is no shortage of Apple farms and cider mills in New York State. What better way to enjoy the beauty of fall than by picking apples and sipping apple cider? The Cider Mill in Endicott is locally known for its variety of apples along with mums, pumpkins, candy apples, doughnuts and more. The Burrville Cider Mill makes gallons of apple cider on its cider press dating back to the 1800s.

Fall Festivals Fall festivals offer local goods, games, rides and more. There are a number of them to choose from, especially in the Hudson Valley. However, there are some that should not be missed, such as the Festival of Witches, the Adirondack Film Festival, and Holiday Valley’s Beer and Wine Festival.

Warwick Apple Fest It’s only for one day, but it packs a crowd! This event is the largest in Orange County and was voted one of the “Top 100 Events in North America.” There is music on several stages throughout the day as well as vendors and exhibitors. Enjoy food, games, rides and more. Hungry for some apple pie? Slices from the apple pie baking contest are for sale.
