Our Catalog shoot came together at the very last minute. With a few simple text messages we had a week long trip to Mt. Baker, WA planned and ready to go. All it took was for Jordan Harper to send me and Jeremy Estorga a message “It’s snowing at Mt. Baker and it’s a 14 hour drive what do you think?” A short conversation later and we had a game plan. We met at the office at 8:00am and loaded the truck with next year’s samples, snowshoes and a box of assorted donuts. I was nominated to drive most of the way up to Baker, call it my payback for acidentally denting the door of the Saga Truck a week prior by backing into a post in the office parking lot. My bad luck followed us for a bit when I recieved a speeding ticket less than halfway through the drive. We started the drive early so we could make a stop into Evo Ski Shop in Seattle. We made it, even with my traffic violation, before they closed for the day. We met with some of the employees and our conversations centered on the new space they remodeled as well as the storm that was fast approaching. After the meet and greet we proceeded on our way to Bellingham and settled into a motel so we could get to the Mountain early. The motel choice was simple, we wanted to go cheap and still have a continental breakfast option so we chose the lovely, Days Inn. To keep the funds lower we only got one room. Jerm our Saga team manager was going to be arriving mid week to bring in a second film angle. This put our cosy living situation of three up to four. So Jerm was going to sleep on the floor. Having four friends in one motel room does not leave much room to dry your boots and gear after a full day of riding, putting much emphasis on the term “cozy.” In the morning We made it to the mountain before the lifts opened.

This wasn’t an issue with our main intention being to hike around the outer boundries so we could set up some features to hit. I would say the highlight of the trip was setting up Homerun Gap. It is a classic and is maybe the easiest gap in terms of setting up. The in-run is short and steep with basically no problems when it comes to dialing in the speed. Along with the gap, Jeremy and I built a wedge that we were able to hit with some really nice backlight. The filmers were very excited about this and it happened to be the only session where the sun came out the entire week. Meaning most of this trip we were skiing in the lowlit trees and trying not to get lost. I was the guide and for being such a forgetful person, my sense of direction is relatively sharp. My brain doesn’t like to remember where I last placed my keys or iphone. But it is fond of remembering hidden pillow fields in mazes of fallen trees in the old growth forests of the Northwest. despite a 2 year hiatus of skiing at one of my favorite mountains, I could remember where I wanted to go as if my mind had decided that knowing these obscure pinpoints was more important than remembering to pay a past due credit card or to send my roommates the rent check on time. The rolling and often mysterious terrain of Mt. Baker, coupled with an average snowfall of 647 inches, is what makes this location in the Pacific Northwest such a unique place to ski. With a full week of skiing and still no end to the storm, we were reluctant to make the voyage back to Utah. This was the plan from the beginning and there were responsibilities to be taken care of back home. It was hard to leave knowing the last tracks we etched through the forest would be covered in the morning. Luckily it was the first trip of the season, and only made us hungry for more.

1. What suit combo are you excited about this season? I think the suit combo I’m most excited for this year is the monarch jacket and pants in the premium series. The fit looks perfect and you know it’ll be good for anything, But I’ve always loved the anomie series and will continue to be wearing that as well. 2. When you order up what are your top three choices of fast food? When I’m ordering fast food my top 3 choices are: New York style pizza, chinese food, and a fat cheeseburger maybe from in n out. 3. Have you tried anything new lately? I’ve tried a bunch of new things lately, I’ve gotten really into surfing and am currently getting certified as a skydiver. Opening my mind perhaps to a larger world, maybe it’ll bring some influence who knows? 4. What is your favorite color? My favorite color is Green, a lush green like being in the woods in late spring. Deep I know. 5. Can you give us a 5 song playlist? • layla (unplugged version) - clapton • mall rats - orwells • om nashi me - edward sharpe • little black submarines - the black keys 6. Are there any events you are excited about for this coming winter? I’m always excited for events throughout the season but I’m looking forward to filming more than competing this winter.

7. Do you prefer Gloves or Mittens? I prefer gloves over mittens, I can’t hold my poles with just my thumb when grabbing, unless I’m skiing pow in which case screw grabs I’m skiing pow!

1. What suit combo are you excited about this season? I am excited for the fatigue pants this year, along with the flannels and coaches jacket. its just a good clean look. 2. When you order up what are your top three choices of fast food? • chipotle • inn in out • costa vida 3. Have you tried anything new lately? please explain I’ve tried eating healthy, contradicting my second answer, but ive been trying to eat healthy for about 5 months now. 4. What is your favorite color? Green 5. Can you give us a 5 song playlist? I cant think of 5 songs off the top of my head, but I have been listening to the new A$AP ferg album, its great. 6. Are there any events you are excited about for this coming winter? Riding in the spring time in big bear is probably the most fun thing for me in snowboarding. It awesome, that and early season in bear. 7. Do you prefer Gloves or Mittens? please explain I wear mittens because I like to keep my fingers together when I ride, I’ve just grown accustom to wearing mittens over the years.
