James May Officially Quits Top Gear
According to a story from The Guardian, Top Gear presenter James May has made it official and says he will not be returning to the BBC auto program barring a Jeremy Clarkson return. In the article, he was quoted as saying “It has to be the three of us. You can’t just put a surrogate Jeremy in and expect it to carry on. It would be forced. I don’t believe they would be stupid enough to try that.” May’s comments came after BBC Controller Kim Shillinglaw told Radio Times that the three un-aired episodes from season 22 would be aired in some form. Reportedly, May had said he would be willing to return to
film new links and studio segments to complete season 22, although nothing has been confirmed. Although this appears to mark the end of Top Gear, the former trio have announced they will be doing a UK arena tour called “Clarkson, Hammond & May Live” which is sure to be good for some laughs.

When it hits the market, it will be one of the world’s most agile full-size luxury performance sedans. Engine options for the new sedan will be an all-new 3.0-litre Twin Turbo V6 that makes an impressive 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, a turbocharged 2.0-litre I-4 engine, and a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6, all of which will be paired to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. Some technology features that will be included are a True 360-degree camera view around the vehicle, Enhanced Night Vision to help identify people or objects in dark settings, and a large 10.2-inch Cadillac CUE interface screen with 1280 x720 HD resolution. Production of the CT6 will begin at the end of 2015.
The concept provides a vision of what a high-performance Infiniti model could possibly look like in the future. It was created through close collaboration with the creators of the Gran Turismo racing game franchise which has sold more than 72 million copies worldwide. The car originally began as a global Infiniti Design competition to design a “pure Infiniti GT car,” which Infiniti’s Design team in Beijing won. The team stayed consistent with the company’s design language and added some Chinese influences to the final design. The front end features a sharp visage and a wide grill which gives it an aggressive look and stance. The curves of the fenders wrap around the tires, further enhancing the aggressive look.

2015 Audi RS7 Story and photos by Jordan Allan
U
sually when you think about a supercar, you think of a vehicle meant only to go extremely fast, and devoid of any everyday practicality. Although it is not considered a supercar, Audi’s 2015 RS7 performs like one on the road. With its twin-turbocharged 4.0litre V8 engine, it has the capacity to drive like a supercar, but also has the capability to behave like a normal family sedan, which is surely a rare combination. Spawned from the more mild-mannered A7 sportback sedan, the RS7 is an incredible head-turning machine. I recently had the pleasure of getting behind the wheel to see what all the hype was about.
The inside of the RS7 is almost as impressive as the exterior, with a refined interior that features controls that are as easy to look at as they are to use. The carbon fibre accents throughout add a nice touch, as does the ambient LED lighting. Audi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) controls the entertainment, navigation, phone, and Drive Select settings through a pop-up screen and control dial mounted
If you’re at all familiar with Audi’s, just one look at the car immediately tells you this is something more than just a regular A7. It has an overall aggressive appearance with a ton of carbon fibre
just below the shifter. I found this system incredibly easy to use and was able to navigate to whatever I wanted with ease. The amazing leather seats hold you firmly in place, and the partially flat-bottomed steering wheel feels great. The back seat offers plenty of room, but is only configured for two occupants, as the RS7 deletes the middle seat found in the A7. accents to enhance that notion, and sits on an impressive set of 21-inch wheels with a full set of huge brakes in behind them. The “Nardo Grey” exterior colour on my test model was unlike any OEM colour I’ve ever seen before, and is now definitely considered one of my favourites. 12 RPM June / July 2015
As mentioned previously, the RS7 boasts a twin-turbocharged 4.0litre V8 engine that pumps out a fire-breathing 560 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels using Audi’s patented Quattro system. This drivetrain allows the 4,475-pound (2,030 kg) vehicle to reach 100 km/h (60 mph) in an outstanding 3.9 seconds, all while emit-
ting an exhaust note that sounds absolutely incredible and leaves you wanting more. Piloting the RS7, I found it was able to perform admirably in a number of different situations. In the comfort setting, it cruised along like any normal large luxury sedan with a smooth ride with little-to-no
noise entering the cabin. The cylinder-on-demand system is able to de-activate intake and exhaust valves of four cylinders which greatly reduces your fuel intake. All of which results in a ride that might leave you to forget just what car you’re sitting behind the wheel of.

enced this to such great extent, as I did behind the wheel of this beautiful beast. The RS7 is truly a unique vehicle. It produces a combination of supercar-like performance with a luxury sedan-esque practicality that is rare. While it does come at a fairly steep starting price point that puts it right on par with its main competitors - if you ask me, it is worth every penny. you’re driving a supercar. The exhaust note immediately changes, and you hear a nice throaty backfire when you let off the accelerator. Putting your foot into it absolutely tosses you back in your seat with a force that few vehicles on the road can accomplish, and although its a massive car, when in Dynamic mode, handles like its on rails, and always makes you feel in complete control. The incredible ease with which you can reach extraordinary speeds without much enticement, is staggering. The first time I put my foot into it I nearly passed out when I looked at the speedometer.

The results reflect fuel consumption in real-world driving conditions, and that data is posted on the AJAC website (www.ajac. ca) so consumers can compare those results and make informed decisions when deciding on their next vehicle purchase, whether it’s a small car, a typical family sedan, or even a light-duty truck.

With more than six different driving legs over the course of the two days, the 21 journalists swapped cars at each leg, selected at random, so that everyone was able to drive a variety of vehicle entrants over the course of the two-day event. This way, their fuel efficient driving techniques had to change according to the vehicle they were selected on the morning of March 25. Thirteen manufacturers participated in this year’s two-day drive from Vancouver to Nanaimo, via B.C. Ferry, then south to Victoria and returning by ferry to the mainland and host city the evening of March 26. The 20 vehicles participating represented a range of models, from subcompacts, compacts, family sedans and sport utility vehicles, to pickups and a sport coupe. The powertrains included pure electric, plug-in and conventional hybrid, diesel-fuelled, high-efficiency gasoline and, new to the consumer market, even a hydrogen fuel cell. The scores were very close, and the top two were separated by only one point, with Jim Kenzie at 86.1 and Chris Chase at 87.0. Michelin Canada joined forces with the 2015 AJAC EcoRun to supply the winning journalist with a brand-new set of Michelin tires, to go along with the Green Jersey. The attached summary provides a picture of how each vehicle performed in the hands of the various AJAC journalists over the two days. Of note in the average fuel consumption calculation, except for the two pure electrics which obviously have their own special ‘fuel consumption equivalency factor,’ plus the bigger gasoline-engined vehicles, all the cars fell into the 5-to-7 litre per hundred kilometre range that equates to at least 45 miles per gallon. The Hyundai Tucson Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle was not logged, at Hyundai’s request. Some of the relatively high and low consumption measurements by the same vehicle can also be attributed to the different types of roads encountered (Legs 1 and 2 were easy highway drives, for example, while Leg 3 had the most stop-and-go urban driving.) And, of course, the drivers all have a different driving style, with some driving as they always would in their own cars, and others trying to extract the most efficiency they could out of the test vehicle they were driving.

All the redesigned features are present and accounted for: the integrated front bumper mesh grille, a relocated instrument cluster now found on the steering column, and more. The press car I tested was the zippy Cooper S with a full range of options, including the LED lighting package (+$1,000) that comes with LED foglights and headlights producing one of the sharpest, slightly purple-coloured beam cutoffs I have come across. The Visibility package adds a head-up display that uses a motorized panel rising from the dashboard, which is a clunkier and less elegant mechanism when compared to similar systems in products rolled out by parent company BMW.
INI has played with the five-door recipe over the years with varying success. Not surprisingly, setting it to Green alters throttle and engine dynamics to deliver a more fuelefficient experience, and Sport does the exact opposite, making the gas pedal livelier and exhaust note louder. Accompanying the change in modes is an adorable graphic, showing a miniature MINI appearing on the 8.8-inch centre-mounted display with a motivational saying like “Let’s Motor Hard!” If you’re looking for a fun little car that is big on fun and usability, the new MINI Cooper S 5-door might be the ticket. Like race cars a few decades ago, carbon was adapted because it is stronger and lighter than a metal structure, with all the expected benefits. The most demonstrable one is that the i3 is very quick and agile, using its instantaneous electric torque to propel its 1,195 kilograms to 100 km/h in only 7.2 seconds. Light weight is the key to sportiness with efficiency, in a car that lives up to the BMW tradition. We’ve covered two of the stated strategic directions for BMW i cars – alternative drivetrains and lightweight construction - but there is a third that takes the i3 above any other small car in the world and makes it the complete urban mobility partner – its connectivity. Think of it as another device, just like your mobile handheld one.
Compelling Proposition The 2015 BMW i3

MW’s i3 electric city car has been available for a while now in Canada, during which time the price of oil has plummeted and people are buying even more of all the engine-powered cars made by BMW and everyone else. Electrics are not flying off the lots, but for those who are looking for an urban car that doesn’t consume gasoline, the i3 has a lot going for it.
BMW calls this i Connected Drive, and it essentially bridges the driver, the vehicle and the driving environment. It begins with the navigation system in the car, but it is optimized for the needs of the driver of an electric car. For example, it constantly monitors the route taken, compared with what it considers to be the most efficient route, and generates a dynamic range map. Intermodal navigation integrates public transport information into route planning, so that, if there is a major traffic stoppage half-way along your planned route, it will direct you to a park-and-ride so that you can continue the trip by train or bus, and continue to guide you on foot through your mobile. And, it will advise you of the proximity of available charging stations along your route. The i Remote App takes it further, with functions like efficiency (driving style analysis), status (locking, charging, etc), and mobility (range and charging stations). The driver can access the i3 remotely at any time. There are many options which primarily enhance the driving experience and safety by leveraging the connectivity of the car.
What you should be able to see is that the i3 goes way beyond simply being another small urban electric car, like the several others you can Actually, in a wise move by BMW, one can have their i3 in pure electric, buy. It is BMW’s answer to those to whom connectivity is all-important. or with a range-extending engine on board, that will charge the batteries Many of those people, most of whom are urban millenials, don’t have a car (or even a driver’s licence) and don’t see the need for one. There are people for whom that may be the case, but if a car could give you the freedom of mobility that all cars do, with social and environmental responsibility, and as a fully-connected addition to your lifestyle, you’d have to think that this might be the way of the future in terms of the private car continuing to be a viable alternative in the cities of the world. BMW is certainly banking on that, and that enough people who think that way will buy into the concept, with a premium badge and price tag (starting at $45,300) attached to it. The i3 isn’t for everyone, but for those who value style, technology, efficiency, connectivity, sporty performance, comfort, environmental responsibility.......everything but long-range and off-road capabilities.....it’s a compelling proposition.
(not propel the car) and double the range to a reasonable 300 kilometres. That would be the one I would want, but we drove the pure electric on a rainy day in May. The first impression is, as always, the car’s design, and the i3 will not be mistaken for anything else. The multi-level belt line takes care of that, as does the ultra-modern interior treatment, with enviro-friendly materials like kenaf fibres, and other recycled and renewable materials. This little car is a full four-seater, too, with room for adults in the back seat. Some of that roominess can be attributed to the i3’s carbon fibre-reinforced plastic body shell, the first series-built car to have such a thing. 22 RPM June / July 2015

TEST F Toyota Tacoma
Price: $36,810 Engine: 4.0L DOHC 24-valve V6 Trans: 5-speed auto Power: 236 hp Torque: 266 lb-ft Curb Weight: 1,914kg/4,220lbs Fuel Consumption: (L/100km – City/Hwy) 15.3/12.3 New for 2015: The Tacoma remains almost completely unchanged for 2015 as it awaits its complete redesign for the 2016 model year. Segment Competitors: Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier. The Skinny: The Tacoma remains as one of the few midsize pickup truck options in the North American market and has mostly dominated the segment the past few years. Although it’s due for a complete overhaul for 2016, Toyota most certainly has not forgotten about 2015 as the Tacoma still delivers the versatility and ruggedness
it has been known for. Pros: With plenty of power and a one-touch 4WD system, you really get the feeling you could take the Tacoma just about anywhere. Cons: The interior has become somewhat stale as it hasn’t changed much over the years. The Verdict: The Tacoma has dominated the scarcely populated mid-size pickup segment the past few years, and despite the release of the two new General Motors trucks, the Tacoma should still give them a run for their money.

Segment Competitors: Dodge Charger, Audi A6, Infiniti Q50, Acura TLX, Chrysler 300, Buick Lacrosse, BMW 3-Series. The Skinny: Cadillac’s CTS Sedan features a bold, aggressive design, and a wide array of different models to choose from which allows it to appeal to a wide customer base. It comes packed with the latest and greatest entertainment and safety features and has a refined interior with a truly upscale look. Pros: Has an incredibly smooth ride but can get up and go when called upon. Cons: The space in the rear wasn’t the greatest compared to some of its competitors. The Verdict: We’ve always been a big fan of the CTS, especially after the 3rd generation was introduced for 2014 as it now features a bolder look and all of the technology features you could want. Before you go look at a German car of the same ilk, consider first the CTS.

The Skinny: The RVR is Mitsubishi’s entry into the compact SUV segment and includes just about everything you’d expect of a vehicle in that class such as outstanding drivability, efficiency, and versatility, all at a very respectable price point. Pros: Definitely one of the best vehicles in this segment to drive. Cons: If a tall person is driving, rear seat room behind them is not ideal. The Verdict: The compact SUV/CUV segment is an ever growing one with a plethora of manufacturers getting into the game recently. After spending some time with the RVR, we expect it to compete well in this segment. 24 RPM June / July 2015

It has a very respectable range of up to 200 km (with some conservative driving) and does so with adequate power. Segment Competitors: Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf, BMW i3, Ford Focus Electric, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Smart fortwo electric drive. The Skinny: The Soul EV enters the Canadian automotive market at a perfect time, as talk about efficiency and environmentally-friendly vehicles has never been stronger. Our test model looked quirky but cool with its white exterior and light blue accents, and driving it is really quite an experience as there is no engine noise at all and the overall feel is different from that of a regular vehicle. Pros: We would be remiss here if we didn’t mention the fact that instead of spending money at a gas station, you are simply able to plug it in. Cons: With just a regular home power outlet, charging does take quite a while. The Verdict: With a great range figure, good looks, and a respectable price when you consider the technology at work here, it is sure to definitely contend in the electric vehicle segment.

Segment Competitors: Nissan Rogue, Kia Sportage, Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota RAV4. The Skinny: The Journey is one of the most affordable and versatile crossovers on the market today that serves as an alternative to a traditional minivan. Our fully loaded Crossroad model had all of the goodies including the Uconnect 8.4-inch touchscreen, AWD system and 19-inch aluminum wheels, and still came in well under the $40,000 mark. Pros: Tons of space inside for passengers and cargo. Cons: We found the Journey to be quite hard on the wallet at the pump. The Verdict: If you’re the kind of person or family who wants all of the usefulness of a minivan without having to actually have a minivan, the Journey is the ideal vehicle for you.

Segment Competitors: Cadillac ATS Coupe, Audi A3, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Acura ILX, Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, Buick Verano, Volkswagen GTI. The Skinny: The BMW 2-Series was introduced in 2014 and replaced the outgoing successful 1-Series. It comes in either a 228i model or the M235i model as our test unit was. The interior has a refined look yet is unquestionably sporty in nature thanks to sport inspired seats and an ultra-thick steering wheel. Pros: The sound, acceleration, look, handling and interior are all absolutely incredible. Cons: As expected on a 2-series Bimmer, rear seat room is next to nothing. The Verdict: The M235i is definitely one of the most fun cars on the market today, and each and every time you get behind the wheel is a thrill thanks to incredible power, and outstanding handling. The grille takes on the squished hexagonal shape commonly referred to as “Aston-Martin-like.” The interior has been tweaked as well. “The 2012 Focus was a global car, so there were lots of things brought in from Europe,” says Smith, giving as an example the door lock controls that were previously located on the dash, proving unpopular with some North Americans. It has since been moved to the more familiar location on the doors. There’s also more storage space, an easier-to-access glove box and adjustable cupholders in the centre console capable of accommodating a cup of coffee or a Big Gulp.

2015 Ford Focus EcoBoost Story and photos by Benjamin Yong, additional photos courtesy of Ford
After admiring all the visual touch-ups, we fired up the engine and set off. Our press car was happily equipped with a six-speed manual transmission — fun, if not as crisp-feeling as some import competitors’ gearboxes — and there’s a PowerShift six-speed automatic offered, too. During our drive, I was surprised at what I heard, which was very little. Smith says refinement was one of the goals for the 2015 Focus, and there have been lots of improvements made in terms of N/V/H. Thicker front door glass and carpeting, better sealing of the side mirror hinges and liftgate area and a revised shock absorber valve design all contribute to a very quiet ride. I don’t mean the outward size of the five-door hatchback or sedan, but rather the inclusion of Ford’s lauded 1.0-litre EcoBoost mill, available for the first time in the Focus lineup. I know what you’re thinking. The little fuel-efficient engine that works just fine in the diminutive Fiesta, but how could it possibly power its older and brawnier big brother? To prove a point, Ford had journalists test out the refreshed Focii in the real world on a sizable drive from snowy Montreal, QC to the even snowier town of Whitefield, NH in the United States, and back. Just before embarking on the route, my driving partner and I approached one of the test vehicles, in sedan form, and took note of how it now more closely resembles other models within the brand. torque while utilizing only three cylinders. Still, I wasn’t expecting that with this particular powerplant. What I was expecting, however, was stellar fuel economy and the Focus delivered. In combined highway and city driving conditions, my co-driver and I managed to squeeze out fuel economy numbers of 7.2L/100 km, a full litre better than compared to the 2.0-litre fourcylinder hatch with an automatic I piloted on the return trip. The nonobtrusive engine start/stop system added this year no doubt helped with this achievement. Putting the power to the ground is Infiniti’s highly regarded all-wheel drive system, and while we didn’t experience its benefits in any noticeable way, f you are wondering just what an Infiniti Q70 is, you are not alone. What it is definitely the drivetrain to have in Canada. The enthusiast, too, will be with the new Infiniti nomenclature (the old M37/56 cars are now the Q70), happy that it is biased towards sending power to the rear wheels. and the rarity of these on Canadian roads (128 sold in all of 2014), the big, luxury sedan is not so much on the radar of buyers of luxury sedans here. That like it has some sort of artificial resistance built into it. Over road irregularities, there is a tangible feeling of tension in the system, as though it was trying to minimize the feedback through the wheel. There is even a lack of self-centring. distinctive appearance carries on to the interior, and while the dashboard is starting to look a little dated, having been in Infinitis for several years, it too is unique, with simple control interfaces that are a very nice difference from most in the segment. Mechanically, the Q70 is much like most of the other Infinitis have been for years, equipped as it is with the familiar 3.7-litre V6 that generates 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Overall performance in normal usage is very satisfying, as the engine is smooth and refined. Given that this is a fairly large car, one might like more torque for better response in the city, but most will find it sufficient. 32 RPM June / July 2015
So, yes, the Q70 is a very attractive, comfortable and well-equipped luxury sedan, priced many thousands less than its German rivals. It should do much better in the marketplace than it does, and with a bit of attention to the steering and suspension tuning, and maybe some more torque, it would deserve to.

Compared to the pre-update, a quicker-ratio electronic power steering setup, stiffer front springs and thicker front and rear anti-roll bars with new Teflon-lined bushings have been introduced. The Si has always been wonderful in the handling department and the upgrades make it that much better. Something that caught me off guard, after having driven several successive pedestrian vehicles or sports cars equipped with rear or all-wheel drive, was the torque steer coming from the uprated 2.4-litre engine funnelling all the power to the front wheels. My advice is to keep both hands firmly on the wheel when you apply throttle. Producing four more horsepower and pound-feet of torque since the initial refresh thanks to a retuned exhaust system, bringing the totals to 205 hp and 174 lb-ft, this Civic is quick. Anyone who has driven previous iterations will notice the car now has a lot more torque that is great for in-town driving, but may miss the (i-)VTEC (Variable Timing and Lift Electronic Control) “kick” when the RPMs soar past 5,000, causing a change in centre-exit exhaust, it’s a glimpse of the near future. The next thing to consider is tire size. You can contact the manufacturer or check tire charts that give you a variety of sizes to fit your vehicle. The height of your sidewall is important and should be chosen based on the conditions where you drive your truck most often. If you only drive on the street, then a low-profile truck tire will be fine, but if you go off-roading, then you are going to want more tire in-between the wheel and the ground. That way you will not bottom out on the wheels when the tires encounter rough terrain off-road.
Choosing the Right Tires Story by Ian Harwood, photo courtesy of manufacturers
The size of the wheel is a personal preference, and larger ones are popular today. Just make sure that the wheel and truck tire you choose will fit inside the wheelwell of the truck, and don’t forget to upgrade your brakes to help stop this increase in weight. The wheel’s rim width varies from truck to truck. It can be custom-made to suit both on- and off-road driving conditions. The rim width is rounded off to the nearest half-inch of the tire. Usually, the best choice is to have the rim width at about 90 percent of the tread width of the tire.
Adequate air pressure is important for long tire life, handling, and traction. Look through your truck’s owner’s manual, on the sticker inside the driver’s door, or look on the tire itself to find the correct ff-road driving is fun for most people. Now, 55 fabrics range from being 25 to 100 percent recycled — like the completely recycled yarn called Repreve made from reconstituted plastic water bottles — and used in 11 vehicle lines.

he Ford Motor Company has traditionally done well at understanding the DNA of its audience, delivering products that satisfy the deep-down wants of everyone from the eco-conscious crowd to the die-hard truck enthusiast. But how well does the average consumer really know the vehicles beyond how they look and feel on the road?
On the topic of EVs, visitors were also treated to a trip to the nearby battery lab, a series of buildings housing some 450 people working on the latest equipment powering Ford’s hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles. Although the engineers are scattered across the campus, many will shortly be consolidated at the 160,000 squarefoot Ford Engineering Lab after extensive renovations are completed. Another long-standing piece of history built in the early 20th century by lauded architect Albert Khan, the structure features unique styling cues such as gods and goddesses set in relief above the windows. Back at the current lab, we met up with testing manager Chi Paik. He led a brief tour through one the facilities, resembling a scene from a 1960s science fiction flick, full of big blue machines labelled THERMOTRON and ENVIROTRONICS. One has a bomb-shelter-worthy door with a tiny window in the middle.

But despite all the fancy tools and lofty goals, Paik says at the end of the day, the battery team’s purpose remains a pragmatic one. ince its introduction back in 1989, the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R32) has become a cult-classic and synonymous with automotive performance. Originally developed to dominate Group A racing, Nissan’s dream of creating a unique coupe with purebred racing lineage couldn’t get any better than with the BNR32 chassis. Fast-forward to today and what you have is a finely tuned 700hp+ specimen owned by Paul Mann of Toronto, Ontario. Like most Japanese car enthusiasts, Mann always desired to own the beloved Godzilla, and one day, his dream came true. In from a port in Japan came this clean silver 1991 Nissan GT-R. For cranking up the horsepower of the already impressive inline-six engine, Mann installed twin Garrett GT28RS turbochargers. The most notable change in this final transformation is the Olympia Blue vinyl wrap done on the factory spark silver metallic paint. Further touches to the front’s exterior include a Saurus carbon fibre lip and a Top Secret carbon bonnet.

the world of GT-R aficionados, this is the must-have upgrade and who would argue against that? Rounding out this JDM beauty is an audio system that is neatly enclosed alongside a race-spec fueling system. Throughout the car, there is a combination of Alpine speakers ranging from SPR-17LS up front to SPS69C2 at rear. Installed in the trunk are two Kenwood KFC-W2513PS subwoofers, and all powered by two amps. It may not be the most lavish of audio setups, but it delivers the much-needed ambiance when the RB26-engine isn’t working hard. Just inches away from the noise makers are a series of anodized fittings and braided fuel lines leading into a FederalRace SwirlPot and fuel pump that provide the vital juice for this 700+ horsepower beast. As a long-standing member in the Canadian tuner scene (specifically amongst GT-R owners), Paul Mann has done what most only dream about – making the already legendary R32 GT-R even better. While most that tend to build these Japanese muscle cars go to the deep-end in way of show or go, Mann has kept things relatively neutral.

The cabin of this blue jellybean is a fine balance of function and form. Essential read-outs are through Blitz BLM-series gauges (oil temp, oil pressure, exhaust temp, and boost gauge) and fitted into a carbon gauge pod. Controls are through an Italvolanti F1 steering wheel, a Tomei shift knob, and OMP race pedals. Replacing the factory audio system is an Alpine IVA-W200 deck that controls a great audiophile setup. Holding the driver and passenger securely are leather Status Racing race buckets and Willans four-point harnesses. For that added measure during spirited street or track driving, Mann had a Cusco D1 six-point chromoly roll cage installed – the best life insurance for any enthusiast and looks great too! The rear of this GT-R is also nicely tweaked with plenty of carbon fibre at first sight. These bits include a Nismo carbon rear spoiler and AbFlug rear diffuser. India has a very rich motoring heritage dating back to 1897, when a resident of Calcutta imported the first car into the country. The following year, there were four cars in Bombay, one of them owned by Jamshedji Tata, the Indian pioneer industrialist who founded the Tata Group, which today is India’s largest conglomerate. Ratan Tata is the great grandson of the company founder and Chairman Emeritus of Tata & Son, and was at the Concours viewing the cars on display. Tata purchased Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008 for $2.6-billion. That being the case, I’m sure Tata enjoyed viewing the 1951 Jaguar MKV; it’s a pity there weren’t any old Series I Land Rovers present.

Cartier Concours d’Elegance
The Maharajas possessed an incredible purchasing power and only acquired the finest things that their money could buy. It should come as no surprise to learn that a quarter of the Rolls-Royce production between 1912 and 1947 went to India. The Concours is a comparatively young event that focuses on India’s automotive heritage; vehicles are not shipped to India from all over the world like other events. Only vehicles from within India can enter.
