Ecological building for Malecon Avenue. Ecohouse Contest. 2007. authors: Jorge Heredia. - Annette Martinez.
The project is located in a very important part of the Havana city, Cuba, between San Lázaro Avenue (19th century) and Malecón Avenue (20th century), with a wonderful sea sights. This area is conformed by an urban compact tissue and an irregular profile, full of architectural values. This urban area is identified as eclectic style, having in consideration the building styles and the different construction periods. This urban sector typology is a consequence of eclectic style which support nowadays urban regulations of the traditional Malecón strip. The principal features of this area are: row houses, small balconies, ceiling heights between five and six meters, big doors and windows proportion sizes, cornize lines in the urban profile, public porch of three meters wide, and small interiors yards as the main element of inner ventilation. Objectives: -Get the suitable insertion in the urban area to maintain the ecosystem balance. -Extend the ecological concepts in terms of functionability and flexibility. -Use potential natural resources to get comfortable interior spaces. -Create interior yards to provide natural light and ventilation. -Integrate in a system: sun, acoustic, and hurricanes wind control. -Functions located in the ground floor should allow an easy dismantle in case of over flooding sea emergency. -Apply low consumption energy technologies. -Create rain water storage to recycle it and save drinking water. The building materials selection was based on ecological impact and economy feasibility. The design concept was based on a rupture between traditional and modern architecture. The facades are a representation of the contrast between these two architectures…it represent the moment of the rupture.

Bioclimatic Hotel Ecohouse Contest. 2006. authors: Jorge Heredia. - Annette Martinez. This project is a bioclimatic hotel, located in Vi単ales valley, Pinar del Rio, Cuba. This area is considered World Heritage and is located in an authorized construction area, which doesn't affect the protection status. This landscape is characterized by abundant tropical vegetation with temperature ranges between 19 "C and 32" C and a relative humidity of 70% to 98%. The project is located in the top of a hill around 220m high with excellent sights to the valley. Design guidelines One of the main design premises was the adaptation to the environment producing the least possible impact and using the as many natural resources for hotel's operation as possible. To get the lower impact on the environment was proposed a building structure supported on pillars, trying to preserve the topography of the land. All the materials to use in the project are biodegradable (laminal wood glued to the structure and natural wood)

DESCRIPTION: The project was done for a Canadian family and consist in a renovation of the main floor, including total kitchen remodeling. The most important area of intervention was the kitchen. One wall was removed in order to set an open concept connecting the dining room with the kitchen room through a counter and creating a breakfast bar. This project was done to a middle family class, and is considered the best solution to get new interior spaces using the most economical ways.

Rosicrucian Temple location: Havana, Cuba 2010. author: Jorge Heredia. - Annette Martinez. company: Freelance Rosicrucian Temple project was made to Rosicrucian organization in Cuba. This project is located in Havana, Cuba. The Rosicrucian organization used a particular house as a temple and they needed to create a new temple with a new shape and new concepts. The new temple was created over one old house existing, and the old house was reformed as well. Both integration and fusion were the main ideas to do the project. The old house was the base to support the new structure in designer terms, and the new building will grow in a towering way over the old house.

The project was based on conditions provided by the investor. To develop this project were made studies taking in consideration place's specific conditions. Some requirements were considered essentials, such as technical and functional factors. The project involves four schools in it (Child care, Primary school, Secondary school and High school). The project also includes a sport area with swimming pull and basketball and tennis courts. The school occupies an area of approximately 55 200 m2, and will be develop in two floors. The structure will be made with shipping containers as structural elements, ensuring the structure strength and the distribution of the structural charges to the ground. The outside surfaces finishing will be covered with phenolic aluminum panels, product certified by ISO-9001: 2000

The building is conformed by three units: the mechanical workshop, administrative offices and one house. In the mechanical workshop main floor are distributed all the functions related with this activity and there are a workers bath and pantry as well. The administrative offices, an accessory shop, a waiting room and a bath are located in the second floor (+3.70). The house unit is situated on the level +3.70 as well, containing three bedrooms, one bathroom, one living room, one dining room, a kitchen and an independent access to the mechanical workshop.

This project was done to respond the requirement of The University of Belas to increase the student residences. The university had the necessity to grow in a short time and without a lot of money. The solution consisted to do the apartments with shipping containers, modifying and transforming these containers in habitable spaces. Each 42 feet container has inside two apartments for two students. Each apartment has one bedroom, one pantry, one bathroom and a little hall. There is inside the bedroom one common desk. Four containers done one block with eight apartments in two levels. A leader was projected in center of the buildings allowing the people flow . The finishing inside of the spaces will appear like a traditional building. The walls, the floor, and windows will be done with conventional construction materials.

TThis project was done for a community in Luanda, Angola. The government in Luanda needed to do houses quickly to solve house's problems of many people. The project consisted to create simple houses with MD2 as constructions system. This construction system is provided by a national factory and the factory has the capacity to produce two houses in one day. Each house would be finished by around 15 days. These houses have the necessary spaces to a low income family live in. The houses are conformed by one living room, one dining room, a little kitchen and two bedrooms. There are two solutions, one is a detach house and the other one is a semi-detach house.

The University of Belas needed to grow in space for more classrooms and other important functions. The UNIBELAS had the necessity to grow quickly at an empty lot next to the existent building. Six buildings of classrooms, workshops and administration offices, a restaurant, and a sports field were projected in the new lot. The structure will be made with shipping containers as building structure elements. The finishing inside of the spaces will appear like a traditional building. The walls, the floor, and windows will be done with conventional construction materials. one with plates phenol aluminum panels. Product certified by ISO-9001: 2000

The objective of this project was renovate an existing house to become it in a Travel Agency. The Travel Agency emerged to provide travel services to individuals and companies. The area of the project is 83.2 m2. It is located in the down town Luanda with easy access to many interesting places. Objectives Renovations of the original house to become it in a Travel Agency; Create the maximum utilizable space; Create necessary areas for the functions of the company.

The Elementary School consists in transform an existing house into a Primary School. The project includes remodeling and reutilizing the existing structure. The renovation project area is 3108 m². The most important objective was supply a primary education demand in the local community. The school is developed in two levels with all functions and conditions needed in primary education. Conditions: Adapt the actual building structure in a Primary School; Do the project with the maximum utilization of the present building; Use all free spaces available for children's recreation area.

The driving school has an objective of create the conditions to train new drivers according to the rules and regulations of Angola's transit, offering an integrated academic training in theory and practice. In a land area of 1.150m2 are included areas for: classrooms, administrative offices and equipment and technologies appropriated to provide a teaching under traffic rules and regulations. Res do Chao
This project was done for a middle-family class in Luanda, Angola. The house is located in a center of a big lot. The functions and spaces of this project are distributed in two areas. One area has all private spaces: bedrooms, bathrooms, and family spaces. The other area has all spaces related with social function: living room, dining room, and kitchen. There are a swimming pool and a Gym in the back yard. There are another building called annex, behind of the principal building, where are distributed three rooms. Theses spaces are useful for Angolan's families because these areas are used as services: laundry and ironing room. The building structure will be made of concrete, block walls and floor slabs. tance.
