Executive Summary Teaming up for a second time in 2016, BECS has invited participants back for the Second Edition of our regional ENERGY STAR energy savings competition titled: “La Batalla de los Edificios - Puerto Rico” - 2016 - Second Edition.
We are hereby submitting the half battle progress report, which covers the months of January thru August of 2016. The results shown are a comparison between the months of January thru August of 2015 and 2016. During this second installment, a total of twenty-five (25) participants and nine (9) properties have reported utilities consumption data. Among the participants there are: contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, government agencies, building owners, building managers, among others. Among the registered properties, there are: three (3) office buildings, two (2)major hotels, one (1) boutique hotel, and one (1) bank branch. The energy saved by these four properties corresponds to a reduction of Greenhouse gas emissions by -1,839,750 pounds of CO21. This amount of CO2 emissions is the one year equivalent of: energy consumed by 88 residences, or 9,903 gallons of gasoline consumed, or burning 1,923 barrels of oil, or switching 29,582 incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs.

ENERGY STAR Certified Buildings - Puerto Rico As of April 15, 2017, there are a total of 25 ENERGY STAR Certified Commercial Buildings in Puerto Rico. The distribution of certified properties by property type is: two (2) Industrial, nine (9) Bank Branches, four (4) Retail Stores, one (1) Office Building, and two (2) Distribution Centers.

Out of six properties, an ENERGY STAR certification was achieved for a Bank Branch. Also, the team achieved the first ENERGY STAR certification for a Hotel in Puerto Rico.
