The city of Ventura was separate from one of its most important assests when the Route 101 was construdted between the city and the sea. VENTURA ARTS CENTER was envisioned as a multipurpose project where the interdisciplinary team defined a set of goals that would be achieved byt he project. Connect the city to the sea, revitalize the area and bring new life, promote culture and social integration, create and icon for the city and create new business opportunities. The project proposes the “creation of new land by building over the freeway. The project combines new and existing elements to connect the city and the sea witht the goal of forgetting the great divider underneath . 23
CIRCULATION
ACCESSIBILITY
CONNECTIVITY
The existing circulation is a design constraint and an opportunity that shapes where the building can have a more open connection to the city.
The multiple access points in the project help a more varied and constant flow of users in and out of the building. The possibility of closing any access point when the building is not in use helps mantain the project clean and safe.
The connectivity to different parts of the city is achieved through the opnenings found on California Street and Thompson Blvd, and elements ike the Ventura View Line.

The project takes advantage of the onramp (Ventura View Line) that goes through the site and by making it pedestrian and bike friedly it reaches out to the pier and creates a visual connection with the surroundings than can be phisically achieved.
INTERIOR (MUSEUM)
The addition of natural light to the museum happens with a customized roof that resembles the wave movement and indirectly gets natural light in the museum. Nautral ventilation utilizes the same systme where the hot air is pushed to the exterior through the controled openings of the roof.

The museum has an exhibition of the city on the first floor and combines some art exhibistions on both floor, where the surf exhibitions is located only on the second floor, where the sea can be appreciated along the museum’s edge.
EXTERIOR PLAZA (MUSEUM)
A solar protection sorrounds the museum area since it has to mantain direct sunlight out but allows for the visitors inside to look at the sorroundings. The protection helps make the venue an icon when the light illuminates the different hanging colored panels. EXTERIOR RETAIL PLAZA
