社科楼的设计理念为“流”。这一理念贯穿了建筑的体量、平面及室外节点的设计。
The design concept for this building is FLOW. The concept informs the building’s massing, planning and exterior articulation.
水流
water FLOW
建筑的体量使人联想到扬子江穿过峡谷，流经中国的大地。 屋面的雨水经过收集并经管道引至底层。雨水穿过庭院、顺阶而下，并被收集到地面下的水箱 中，可作为建筑和景观用水的水源。 The massing of the building recalls the FLOW of the Yangtze River between cliffs and through the landscape of China. Rainwater is col lected on the roof and directed down the building. It flows across the courtyard, down the steps and is collected in an underground cistern for use in the building and for landscape.
气流
air FLOW
通过桥廊及架空的设计，建筑朝各方向均设有开口，将外围气流引入，优化建筑内部风环境。 建筑的可开启外窗又可将室外气流引入室内，实现自然通风。 Operable windows direct the free-flowing air into the building. The building opens itself on all faces to the prevailing winds to optimize the FLOW of air using bridge and breezeway connections.

每个学院均设有独立的出入口。 阶梯教室及公共空间设有独立出入口。 建筑东西两侧的大台阶可以吸引人流来到一层屋面的中心庭院。 建筑的桥廊可以展示在建筑公共空间穿梭的人流。 Each department has its own entrance. University classrooms and commons have their own entrances. Steps on the west and east allow people FLOW over the classrooms and through the central courtyard. Bridges and breezeways showcase people flowing through the building across open space.

从黎明到黄昏，随着时间的流动，太阳光线赋予建筑不同的面貌。 室内空间模块化的设计使建筑平面可以根据功能需求的变化灵活转换。 大空间的结构体系提供了布置教室、讨论室、图书室等功能的灵活性与弹性。 The movement of the sun changes the aspect of the building over time. The modular design of interior spaces allows the building plan to evolve as needs change over time. Long-span structure allows planning flexibility for classrooms, studios and laboratories.
