SMART CITY PROJECT NOLANVILLE, TX ST U D I O
This project is an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming a town through the integration of cutting-edge technologies. Its primary goals are to bolster lood prevention measures, foster biodiversity, and enhance community health and educational opportunities. Moreover, it seeks to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, making these eco-friendly modes of transportation more viable for the community. In recognition of the signi icant potential impact on the community, the team behind this visionary project was honored with the “Endeavr Community Impact Award.” This accolade underscores the project’s innovative approach to urban development and its commitment to creating a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient community. 26
27
Section - Bioswale The bioswale component plays a crucial role in the project’s water management and pollution control strategy. It is designed to direct water towards treatment and drainage facilities, with a built-in over low mechanism that diverts excess water into the park when necessary. To enhance public engagement and education, there is a proposal to install water testing sensors within the bioswale. These sensors are intended to provide real-time data on water quality, demonstrating the effectiveness of the bioswale in purifying water. This initiative not only showcases the project’s environmental stewardship but also integrates the park into the broader vision of fostering walkable, accessible spaces for the community. This approach underlines the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability and public health, making the park an integral part of the community’s green infrastructure.

Rendering - Bioswale
The primary objective of this park is to address water management challenges, speci ically to mitigate excess water and prevent looding within the area. Central to this effort is the inclusion of a bioswale, which acts as the core component of the park’s water mitigation strategy. This bioswale is planted with native vegetation known for their effectiveness in combating soil erosion and reducing water pollution. Designed with resilience in mind, the park is intended to serve as a temporary lood basin during prolonged periods of rainfall, thereby alleviating the risk of lood damage to nearby streets and homes. In times of fair weather, the park transforms back into a conventional recreational space, offering the community a place for leisure and outdoor activities. It features ample shade and a well-de ined pathway that invites exploration and enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
30
Importantly, the park is designed to be inclusive, adhering to ADA standards to ensure accessibility for all individuals. This thoughtful integration of functional, environmental, and social considerations underscores the park’s role not just as a lood mitigation measure, but also as a valuable community asset that enhances the quality of life for all residents.
Rendering - Street Vantage Point
This community park is bordered by a vibrant green strip, creating a visual and physical separation from the street while enhancing safety with a protective wall against water hazards. Designed with pedestrian and cyclist comfort in mind, the area is shaded and features a green wall along an existing rail, beautifying the space and attracting pollinators like butter lies. Equipped with energy-saving smart lights that activate on movement, this strip offers a sustainable way to enjoy the park’s views and ambiance without full entry, allowing visitors to appreciate the space from a unique vantage point.

FLOOD PLAIN RECOVERY HOUSTON, TX ST U D I O
This project is focused on devising strategies to protect a lood-prone city from future catastrophic events through innovative solutions. The approach involves designing resilient structures, creating green parks, implementing strategic zoning practices, and establishing bioenvironmental facilities. The aim is to develop a comprehensive, forwardlooking plan to safeguard Houston against the impacts of severe storms, ensuring the city’s safety and resilience in the face of climate challenges.
32
33
Section - Riverine Flooding
34
The design is intended to restore loodplains along rivers and bayous in Houston. By widening the body of water by 25% to 50%, the retention volume can be increased. The loodplains create a buffer to protect the development nearby by using native plants and species that can adapt to this environment. Bioswale incorporation can purify water. Incorporating recreational areas along the bayou or river can promote people interaction with this environment. By combining loodplain restoration and crating recreational areas along these loodplains, one can create a functional and dynamic water management plan.
