VILLAMOR BEAUTIFUL WARRIOR Interview by SHANNEN TIERNEY @shannen.tierney
As a podcast host, business owner, and competitive pistol shooter Jamie Villamor is a perfect representation of the duality of women. She may be in a male-dominated sport but couldn’t care less about how those men perceive her. Her do-it-all attitude is inspiring to young women everywhere. With more plans in the work and a massive growing fan base she is still just getting started. model: JAMIE VILLAMOR @jamie_villamor PHOTOGRAPHER: JOSE BURROLA @intuitiondesignphotography MAKEUP artist: ALEEYA VILLAMOR @narsissist HAIR STYLIST: ALEEYA VILLAMOR @hairbyaleeya PUBLICIST: PUBLISHPILOT @publishpilot

hat inf luence d you r l o ve for guns and s ho o t ing? Living on my own and having my home broken into made me feel extremely vulnerable. I owned a firearm at the time however, I didn’t feel 100% comfortable using it. This was one of those ah ha moments for me. It took the police over an hour to respond to my 911 call and at that moment I realized I was responsible for myself and my family. I wanted to be properly trained on all aspects of being a responsible firearm owner. Moving forward, I remember saying if there is ever a next time I will be more prepared. Unfortunately some people are not given a next time. I wasn’t going to be another statistic. I looked into one on one training and ended up loving it. There are some amazing instructors that literally teach and travel all over the world. JJ Racaza and Joe Farewell to name a few of my favorites. There are also some not-so-great instructors so it’s important to do your research before training with just anybody. What is it like being a female competitive shooter?
Is it true that you have started making knives?
I just began collaborating with Microtech Knives and Marfionie Customs this past year and part of my deal entailed learning the process of how the knives are made from the ground up. It was important for me to understand the process and the work that goes into making these knives. I’m so grateful I did because it has given me a whole new respect for all the hours of work that go into creating these knives. Each piece is definitely a work of art. I’m a few months in and still have yet to complete my 1st knife from start to finish.
“Living on my own and having my home broken into made me feel extremely vulnerable.”
Ha ha... this is funny because I’m still new to the competitive world. A lot of the shooters have been competing from an early age so I’m definitely very late to the game. Some men are just happy to have you out there learning and want to see you do well others are like wow I thought you would be better. With anything in life, it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks or how they react. Are you learning and most importantly having fun is what I ask myself, and I am. Do you have any advice for other girls in male-dominated sports who may feel discouraged or intimidated by the men around them? Yes, my advice to other girls in male-dominated sports would be don’t pay attention to the opinion of others if you’re learning and having fun fuck

everyone else. You do you because I guarantee that you are inspiring others even if you don’t think that you are.
How do you determine which brands to work with?
That’s such a great question. Staying true to what fits in my everyday life has been a big part of determining which brands I would like to align myself with. I have had to pass on some amazing opportunities because realistically I know it’s not a fit for me. If I can find a way to incorporate brands in doing what I love each day I truly believe it’s a win-win and it’s no longer about work but more so sharing my experiences and the things I love and connect with. I also tend to look long-term if I’m going to invest my time into a company I want to know that they’re going to invest in me as well. It has to be a mutual partnership. When I know a brand is invested in me it fuels my motivation to create amazing content. The last fashion or beauty item you bought? A vest from Innocent Armor. The goal of this brand is to utilize the latest technology to create classy and bullet-resistant bulletproof lifestyle clothing and gear. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I’m protected anywhere I go and it’s fashionable. I am excited to run tests on some of their new attire.

STELLO
QP
Supermodel, competitive shooter, podcaster, business owner. How do you maintain balance and avoid stress?
I believe when we make our inner peace dependent on outer circumstances, we give control of emotions to other people and events. Things just happen, they are not personal. Instead of imposing our expectations into reality, what if we let them go altogether? That’s what I try to remind myself when I feel overwhelmed. What’s
the
secret
to
your
success?
I often say there is no secret ingredient to success and that’s the problem. A lot of people are looking for a shortcut. You have to be consistent to grow yet willing to change and not get complacent. It’s always a work in progress. Put in the work daily and whatever you’re wanting to create. Don’t give up. We all have it in us to be successful but not all of us have the discipline and that’s the difference. I learned to be disciplined at an early age through my martial arts and it’s definitely contributed to my success. Do you feel modeling helped you create other avenues in your career? Modeling has definitely helped create other avenues in my career; however, it doesn’t matter what you are doing career-wise, forming relationships and making connections is key. What made you want to start your podcast, Dating Intelligence?
I was originally asked on the show by Christopher Louis as a guest co-host. We met several years prior, he was a tennis pro and I was modeling tennis bags. I agreed to come to the show. It’s ironic because a few months prior I was looking at creating a podcast of my
own. This opportunity presented itself and it was perfect timing. So I signed on as a full-time co-host with him. Why should people add your podcast to the list of podcasts they listen to?
Dating Intelligence should be at the top of the list of podcasts you listen to because it’s a real honest take on our relationships in life with no BS. We want you to have a good time while listening to the show as well as not take everything so seriously. If you can’t laugh while learning… Then what’s the point. Every guest that we have on the show brings a relatable vibe to the listener and viewer if you are single, dating, married, divorced we want to show you that no matter who you are, or what you do we all have problems and issues. Our goal is to solve all issues together intelligently and with a flair of fun. What are some good self-defense tips for young women?
Situational Awareness is the first step and key. Put your phone away when you’re walking in general. If you are not aware of your surroundings you immediately become an easier target. Always carry a flashlight It creates a distraction and can be used as a tool in many ways. You can get on an airplane with one and travel all over the world with it. It can be a very valuable tool and if utilized correctly could save your life. Use your voice if at any time you feel you may be in danger. I had the opportunity to train with W.O.F.T. (www.woft.com) they specialize in scenario training and I walked away with a whole new perspective on how to be prepared in a variety of different scenarios. For example being in a restaurant, coffee shop, walking to your vehicle, etc. I highly recommend it for women and families in general.

Can you tell us about your business Vegas Bows? I started Vegas Bows in 2014. I create custom hair bows for competitive cheerleaders and dancers all over the world. Our bows are different from other Bows because Vegas Bows are hand sewn using amazing fabric versus ribbon. We also use Swarovski crystals so they definitely outshine all the others. Would you ever consider starting another business?
Absolutely, I would love to start another business. I definitely have my eye on the health and wellness industry. I have been researching wellness retreats and incorporating beautiful locations. Also potentially creating my own line of healthy snacks especially for travel. You talk a lot about wellness. Define wellness.
Wellness for me is all about checking in with your physical and mental health evaluating what I actually need vs what I want at that moment. Journaling has been a huge asset in my growth as a person. Checking in and being able to understand why I feel the way I do. Sometimes the food we eat can play a major part in how we feel. Learning all this has been a fabulous journey and I’m learning more than ever right now. Any advice for someone who is just starting a business of their own?
Know your direction, stay focused, and most importantly, you have to be disciplined. Be open to coincidences and small detours that show another path forward. Your plan will be altered often for the best. What are some things that you do to maintain your inner peace? Reading is one I believe I read once it’s not external events that make us happy or unhappy. It’s the story we tell ourselves about what those events mean.
When we make our inner peace dependent on outer circumstances, we give control of emotions to other people and events. Things happen, they are not personal. Instead of imposing our expectations onto reality, what if we let them go altogether? How do you let go of expectations?
Haha... another great question and something I have to be mindful of each day. I believe with most things it’s a practice. In this case, a practice of acceptance. When you learn to act from a place of acceptance, you work with the flow of life. When you act from a place of resistance, you fight against it. The practice of acceptance requires emotional fitness; the ability to sit with uncomfortable feelings and emotions. What is something you’ve been doing to maintain peace in your busy life? I’ve been journaling each day recording my mood. I do my best to engage in meaningful conversations with different people about a variety of topics to educate myself more and make space for growth. You have a pretty large fan base what has been your experience with that?
With so many eyes on me, it’s definitely been an amazing learning experience that’s propelled a lot of internal growth. It has forced me to accept and get comfortable with the fact that not everyone’s going to like me and that’s OK. It’s a very valuable lesson that I learned very early on in my modeling career. Everyone has an opinion on what you should or shouldn’t be doing. As soon as I learned to live my life according to my standards and beliefs, not society, life became a lot easier for me. Final question: single, dating, or in a relationship? Single.
“Be open to coincidences and small detours that show another path forward. Your plan will be altered often for the best.” 51

B
ella Dose is the first Latin bilingual girl group to come together and damn are they good. Just as any new venture or projects, there are some bumps to get over but nothing the girls could not overcome! Coming from different Latin backgrounds, each lady brings some unique and special to the table. Together they can do anything and we are excited to see where their next adventure will take them! S hare w ith us the story of how yo u ca me together as a group. Jenni: Bella Dose started when Vicky Curiel, the group's CEO and creator, decided to form the world's first Latin bilingual girl group. She held auditions across the US and found us all in Miami, FL. From there, she flew us out to LA, and we went through a training program to learn guitar, piano, music theory, and we even learned how to engineer our own sessions. Vicky wanted us to be hands-on with our craft, so she made sure we knew everything there was to know about music. We then started writing our own songs together, and it is now what you hear today from us. What were some obstacles you faced in the beginning? What came easily?
Thais: Some obstacles we faced initially were getting used to consistently posting on social media as a group and finding the perfect sound that would fit our brand. What came easily was the bond we had. Sometimes it takes a long time for girls to officially connect and get along, but we had an instant connection that felt so natural.
When faced with decisions and disagreements, how do you usually resolve that?
Thais: We first hear out each person's opinion, and if we don't agree on a certain topic, we find a happy medium where everyone's happy. We never want anyone to feel like they're not being heard, so we really make that a priority in our conversations and decision-making.
“we always want to keep each other close and always have the support of one another.”
Tell us more about each of you and what you bring to the group.
Jenni: Each of us brings different cultures to the group. Even though we're all Latina, we all come from different Latin backgrounds. Thais being Cuban & Honduran, she brings the Latin flavor from her two countries. We have embraced her countries food dishes and music. Melany being Puerto Rican, Colombian, and Chilean, has allowed us to learn and indulge in every single part of our country's culture. 81
Me and Brianna are both Dominican, but we have also taught each other things from our own country, being that our parents are from different areas of the country as well. This huge melting pot is what makes Bella Dose, Bella Dose.
What do you believe is a quote which best summarizes your group dynamic?
Brianna: I feel like a quote that summarizes us as a group would be, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." -Helen Keller. The reason why is because we truly believe in teamwork. No matter what we do, we always want to keep each other close and always have the support of one another.
Explain to us what you love most about being a bilingual group. What have you learned from being bilingual? Brianna: I love being in a bilingual group because I get to blend both of my cultures. I grew up in America, but I know everything about my Dominican culture, from the food to the holidays and even the slang. So bringing those two worlds together is so cool, especially seeing how the world perceives it.

Do you believe you have found your purpose?
Melany: Yes. I definitely feel like we've found our purpose. As Latin-American women, we want to share our culture and show we are proud to be Latinas while also embracing our American culture. We want to help other people embrace the culture as well! In a world where there is still much ignorance, how do you respond to people like that?
Melany: We don't! Haha, I think we've learned to dodge ignorance and not pay mind to it. We don't want to put our energy towards something negative or hurtful, but in the case that someone is ignorant due to not knowing something, we like to educate them and be as helpful as possible in those circumstances! What can fans expect next?
Thais: Fans can expect some new content and new music. We hope you guys love this new era of Bella Dose we're entering as much as we do!
