LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Hi there, A new issue is out, a new month comes and we are still fighting this invisible war. These are sad times for many families, but there is also a smell of hope in the air. Back to our publication, we couldn´t be more hyped and excited to be working with the passionate teams of professionals who participate in one way or another in our editorial productions. I have said it many times, and will keep saying it forever: we are only as good as the teams who are behind the stories that we present in our magazine. They put so much of themselves into these projects, that I just can´t be grateful enough. Here at QP, we have developed our own style during all these years, and there´s nothing more rewarding than having new people involved, but at the same time keeping the amazing talents we have been working with for so long. This is an issue born with gratitude and modesty, but this is also an issue that showcases who we all are...a big creative community I really hope you enjot this issue, with fashion designer ALEJANDRA RICH on the cover, together with some really cool interviews with JAIMIE HILFIGER and GEORGIA SINCLAIR. rowing up, what was your relationship with fashion and beauty like?

I had an eye for beauty and fashion from the start, and my parents always encouraged me to follow my dreams even though they both were not in the entertainment or fashion field. At an early age, I possessed an innate understanding of my inner power that comes from looking and feeling your best. I was always very explorative and creative growing up. I was very interested in fashion, dressing myself, and choosing my own outfits with accessories. Once I started modeling around age seven I fell more in love with clothing, hair, and makeup. I honestly never considered another career other than modeling and becoming a beauty entrepreneur. It has been engraved in my soul since before I can remember.

Share with us a time you overcame a lack of self-confidence. What was the situation? How did you react? Despite my diligence and singular desire to build a modeling career, my earliest endeavors were often met with rejection. The biggest challenge that I have faced when I first reemerged into the modeling industry was that my slight stature made landing runway gigs difficult, but I was undaunted.

“In order to be truly successful, you need the will and the way. The will is the passion for your dream and the way is the muscle to get it done.”

Determined, I pivoted and was soon gracing magazine covers. As of today, I have appeared on over 30 of some of the biggest fashion magazine covers, nationally and internationally. If you want people to believe in you, first you have to believe in yourself.

Describe to us your journey up until now. How did you get to where you are today, a fashion icon and beauty entrepreneur? I grew up the only child of doting, hard-working parents. Raised just outside of New York City, I 27

initially got into the industry when I was around seven years old. My mom used to take me into the city for casting calls. My first campaign came from SEARS department store. After landing many SEARS campaigns I was able to continue to model throughout my childhood. When it was time for college, I was determined to earn an education so modeling took a backseat. I attended the University of Central Florida, where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Media with a minor in Cinema Studies. It was here that I became involved with philanthropy work through the Ronald McDonald House, an organization I still continue to support. Still passionate about beauty and fashion, I made my way back to the big apple where I lived and worked as a model before taking the leap and moving to Hollywood. In the most recent years, I have developed notable projects that have accelerated my career. I have been seen in national commercials, featured in many advertising campaigns, taken on many spokesmodel opportunities, and seen on the covers and in the pages of numerous magazines and entertainment weeklies. I have also contributed my fashion and beauty advice to many major media outlets and blogs. Why did you pick this route?

I knew that it wouldn’t be easy to develop a brand around my own name. If you’re thinking about going into business, start by asking yourself if you can do anything else. If you can, do the other thing. But if your passion is so strong that your dream is the only thing you can do, then, and only then, you should do it. Because in order to accomplish your dream, it will probably come at the expense of just about everything else. Your dream will become your mother and father, so you’d better love it just about more than anything else. In order to be truly successful, you need two qualities. You need the will and the way. The will

is the passion for your dream and the way is the muscle to get it done.

What does beauty mean to you?

Beauty means The Jaimie Hilfiger Collection by La Curcio which brings a brand to the market that aligns with our mission to pair health and wellness with undeniable glamour.

If you had to describe yourself as a piece of clothing, what would you pick and why? I would describe myself as a large solitaire diamond ring because I am glamorous, elegant, and sparkly. I may not be completely flawless but I am rare, and my tiny imprecations make me unique and one of a kind. lax and breathe.

In a world where the definition of beauty keeps evolving, how do you make sure to keep your brand moving too? Becoming successful in the beauty industry takes a lot of work. You constantly have to be one foot ahead of others and really have an eye out for evolution. It’s important to differentiate yourself from all the other brands out there. Beauty and skincare have always been my first love (over fashion) which people find surprising. If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. If you continue to make easy moves and decisions you will never be challenged. Look at taking on business challenges as adventures, something new and exciting to discover and they will seem less frightening. What do you believe is the most important factor to consider while putting together new collections? As I developed a successful career as an international model and fashion icon I sat happily in the seats of the best makeup artists and skincare experts in the world. However, my extensive experience revealed an

QP

urgent need for high-performance products with healthy ingredients and earth-friendly packaging. The Jaimie Hilfiger Collection by La Curcio is composed of naturally derived plant essential ingredients that are all multifunctional with incredibly swift and visible results. We also never test on animals and our beauty line is 100% vegan. Our beauty and makeup products are good for your skin and will enhance natural beauty. They will make your skin luminous for a lifetime. I believe that each of these factors is extremely important to have in every collection that is created. Tell us more about your upbringing and what made you who you are today. I believe in paying it forward. From a young age, my parents always taught me the importance of charity and volunteering. The city next to where I grew up Newburgh, New York is one of the top five most dangerous American cities (FBI Statistics). Having this so close to home meant that I was able to see extreme poverty conditions firsthand. When I think back to my childhood I remember volunteering in this city with both of my parents. We used to work soup kitchens, babysit for single-parent families, and drive up and down the streets handing out turkeys on Christmas Eve. Even though I was little I could never forget how good it felt inside to give back and this feeling has continued to stay with me. Throughout high school I helped out after school at the health clinic my mom worked at and during summer I was a candy stripe volunteer at our local hospital. In college, I frequently volunteered at the local Ronald McDonald House cooking meals for families of sick children. Upon graduating I moved to LA and continued helping out at the Ronald McDonald House and started working with (volunteering) The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Today, I donate to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital now that I am a mother and realize the importance of finding cures to save children.

“I would describe myself as a large solitaire diamond ring because I am glamorous, elegant, and sparkly.” 30

What is the biggest lesson you have ever learned?

I am so thankful for the lessons that I have learned along the way. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the experience and knowledge that I have received in becoming self-made. The greatest lessons I have learned are:

1. Do not lose sight of who you are and your own personal style - Many times people told me to change up my image and to stop being so glamorous all the time. After discussing this with my publicist, Lee Runchey she explained to me that being glamorous is who I am and it is what makes me recognizable. 2. Do not give up - If it’s something you truly want then it’s important not to give up and not to lose sight of your ultimate goal. I always say

to not lose track of the north. It might not be fast, but with time and effort, it will be worth it in the end. What’s so beautiful about the industry I am in is that it lets you express your true self whether it be through modeling, designing, photography, etc. Keeping in mind these life lessons will help you succeed without sacrificing your individual spirit.

Where do you see yourself going next?

This coming year brings so much hope to all of us for some many reasons. I hope to expand my beauty empire by introducing new products that help women look and feel their best. I am also going to continue modeling, acting, and helping others in the industry become self-made entrepreneurs.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without the experience and knowledge that I have received in becoming self-made.”

GEORGIA SINCLAIR CATCHING HER WAVE Interview by ELISABETH HOWER @elisabethhower

Georgia Sinclair has written the book on going with the flow. There are no road maps in life, and yet she seems to have a steady compass telling her exactly where to go. “I do believe it’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me”,

Georgia Sinclair says unflinchingly, and with conviction. She’s talking about the discovery of a golf-ball sized brain tumor several years ago that became a pivot point for the Melbourne native. “Without it, I might not have taken the risks in my life and in my career… I might not even be living in LA. I might have been playing it safe.” She continues, “I wouldn’t have been as fearless.” The Australian DJ, who just recently signed a residency at Resorts World Casino’s Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub in Las Vegas, is a refreshingly open book. It got me curious about how she got that way. Was she born with it? Or is her confident, adventurous spirit something she’s cultivated? Either way, can I have some? Sinclair and I recently spoke about life-changing events, like, oh, a pandemic, and she proved she’s no stranger to unexpected twists of fate. In fact, she welcomes them. Just prior to her diagnosis, Sinclair was an up-and-coming host and actress working in Australia. At the time, she was on a live TV show that she loved. But her tumor was large. Too large to operate on. Over the next two years, she’d have to take medication to shrink it that made her so sick she had to “walk away from one of the greatest opportunities” [she’s] ever had. “That I really struggled with.”

“You’ve got to not fight against the tide in life. If you’re being pushed down a certain path, and it feels good, then maybe it is.”

However, halting work was less challenging than watching those around her cope with her diagnosis. “I always felt pretty centered around my diagnosis, but watching my family deal with it was stressful,” which feels like an understatement. Was she worried about death? “Stress will kill you,” she says bluntly. “We don’t do ourselves any favors by focusing on the doom and gloom… I got very still and focused on what was good.” It’s a mindset she found that would continue to follow her, long after she was cancer-free. Aside from focusing on the positive, how did Georgia spend her recovery? Why, listening to music, of course. “DJ-ing was never supposed to be my career. It was supposed to be an outlet, a hobby… something 81

that brought me joy… Never in a million years did I imagine it would be my career.” As she dove further in, she says, things just kept progressing. “I think that’s another lesson I learned. You’ve got to not fight against the tide in life. If you’re being pushed down a certain path, and it feels good, then maybe it is.” And while she does miss television immensely, “There are no rules. Maybe it’s just not my time [to do that right now.] Maybe I’m meant to focus on everything that’s working in my favor now so that I can do something in the future that’s far greater than what I’ve ever imagined.” She pauses to reflect. “That’s what I’ve found in my life. Every time I’ve looked back, and think about what my perspective used to be, I think, holy crap, the life I’m living is actually bigger than what I thought it would be. You’ve got to trust the process.” And following a year where there quite literally were no rules, it’s a perspective that everyone would do wise to heed. Since she was a child, she found solace in music; it was her outlet, and its power was not lost on her. “It allowed me to feel things.” Even more affecting was the first time she went to an under-21 club. She was 14. There was a dance floor full of people. But her eyes immediately went to the DJ standing in the middle of the room. To her, he was the man from Oz. “He seemed like the most powerful person in the world,” she recalls of watching him sway the emotions of the crowd, allowing them to feel things, simply by making song choices. “I said to my friend, ‘I really want to do that.’” The response she got was less than thrilling: “Girls don’t DJ.” See, it hadn’t occurred to her that just because she hadn’t seen any female DJs before that they couldn’t. However, she would spend years building a career as a television host before music would step up and become the woman from OZ. Cut to a few years later. Georgia is in a hospital room, minus one brain tumor. At first, she dove headfirst back into music as a sort of therapy, just as when she was a child. “Then I thought, I’ve always loved playing DJ and making music, why don’t I actually just learn how to do it?” Did the male stigma bother her? “Why, are male hormones needed to DJ? That’s absurd!” She laughs. However, “even when I started, there still weren’t a lot of women.” It would be the first of many

risks she says the diagnosis enabled her to make. “I got so much bolder after that. So much less fear.” About what? “Everything. Before I might have thought, oh, I can’t do this or that, I’m not good enough, but afterward, it was just like, why the hell not just give it a go? What have I got to lose?” The doors to DJ gigs kept opening, and wise creature that she is, Georgia just kept walking through them. “At some point, I thought wow, I always thought my life was going to be TV, but being a DJ has given me more than TV ever could have.” It opens a discussion about identity, and how being willing to evolve is her key to happiness, as well as longevity. “When you’ve chosen a career like mine, it doesn’t come without a whole lot of heartbreak.” She continues, “making your whole identity one thing is really dangerous. Placing all of your happiness into one thing is like placing your happiness into a relationship with another person. They don’t have control over your happiness. They can’t make you happy, nor is it their responsibility to do so. It’s your responsibility.” If you’re in one of Sinclair’s clubs, though, she does her best to shoulder at least some of that burden, now that she’s the most powerful one in the club. “It’s a beautiful challenge,” she says. “I want everyone to feel amazing… the first question I always ask is, how is this going to make someone feel?” The same goes for her music production. “I’m always asking, do I love this? If not, it’s put to the side.” I was starting to see a pattern, here.

I ask her how the pandemic affected her identity as a DJ. “Well, it was much harder than the brain tumor, because the whole world was involved. There was so much we didn’t know.” Did she miss the clubs? Music? “Of course, but you know, I was doing 200 plus flights a year, playing a couple of shows every weekend. Which I loved, it was a beautiful experience, but I had no concept of how exhausted I was. The first six weeks of that first lockdown I just slept.” And then, in true Sinclair fashion, she took that information without resistance and got to work. To avoid feeling burnt out in the future, she realized she needed to diversify her revenue streams to give her more freedom from the road. So she branched out beyond her nightlife contacts and deeper into content creation and brand partnerships with Don Julio 1942, Versus Game, and NYX Cosmetics, to name a few— and discovered there was joy here, too. “I identified during the pandemic that my love isn’t necessarily hosting, it isn’t necessarily DJ-ing, it’s performing… There are other things I can do that don’t involve traveling, that don’t involve the world being open, in order to feel fulfilled, to be happy, and make some money.” It’s an astute observation, but hardly a surprise for a woman who’s made a career out of catching curveballs: No longer is she bound to the identity of TV host or DJ, but an ever-changing creation entirely her own.

“If you’re not happy, you’ve got to look at why.”

Which isn’t to say there isn’t a little bit of strategy behind some of her decisions. Before the pandemic, “people thought I was drunk 24/7,” she says candidly. It made her do a double-take on her social media profile pages. There were a lot of photos of her in a nightclub, holding a bottle of Don Julio 1942, one of the companies that sponsor her. But in reality, “I love that tequila, yes, but I don’t drink five days a week, at least. I wake up every day, go to the gym, I drink a lot of water. I drink tea at night. Sure, I’ll have a blowout every once in a while, like anyone, but I really don’t drink an abnormal amount of alcohol. But I think my social media would tell you that I do.” It’s an awareness that made her want to be more authentic, to evolve, and to do so publicly. Part of that evolution involved her diving deeper into “the beast” of social media. “I wanted people to know me as more than a DJ.” True to her word, Sinclair

now writes, shoots, edits, and posts about her brand partnerships on Instagram. Not that she takes content creating too seriously. “I don’t like it unless it’s funny. I’m that way with everything, including finding a partner. Maybe to my detriment!” She giggles. But once again, it’s that joy that propels her forward, like waves of the ocean. According to her, there’s really no other choice. “If you fight against it, it’ll fight you.” I can feel the excitement in her voice. When we let go of what we think should happen, who knows what adventures await? If you happen to meet Sinclair jockeying in a club, out on the street, or on her way to the gym, she’ll likely be wearing a version of her uniform: High waisted jeans, a crop top, streetwear flats. Some rock and roll jewelry. But her favorite accessory? “Being well-slept and hydrated.” After all, life’s gonna throw some curveballs, best to be ready to catch them. Georgia certainly will be.

“There are other things I can do in order to feel fulfilled, to be happy, and make some money.”
