Rationale I want my briefs this year to help develop my practice which is based around illustrating children’s books. But I don’t think this means I should limit myself solely to briefs based specifically on this process. I want to look at book cover briefs, poster briefs, product designs that are appropriate to my practice, clothing design, smaller briefs to get me used to working on short deadlines and force me to develop processes for idea generation and selection. I want to find briefs that help me to help me make my practice more professional in terms of communication, problem solving, processes, application and time management. I need to get used to pro diving work that meets set criteria within a deadline so will help me develop skills recognising relevant information, reflecting on progress and selecting the best outcomes and recognising why. I would also like to set my own brief to write a book (mainly a picture book, not much writing), and to illustrate the book. I would like to make a full book as it will bring together all three modules this year. I think it will help me understand the entire process, my aim should be to produce a book that can be pitched to publishers at the end of the year. I want my choice of briefs to be varied enough to act as the starting point of my portfolio. Working on larger project, specifically books could mean I have a large amount of work all of the same characters, landscapes and formats. It would be beneficial to work in a variety of aesthetics and formats to demonstrate a range of skills to publishers and agents. is the brief I aim to spend the most time on as I think it will be the most beneficial to my practice. The brief is to illustrate a children’s book where the story is provided.
