INFINITI unveils luxury models Infiniti is beginning to earn quite the reputation in the luxury car world. The automaker is focusing its efforts this year on two important models, which also happen to be the brand’s most popular assets. The Q50, successor of the popular G35, will be offered in more varieties than ever in an attempt to seriously compete with its German-made counterparts. A more affordable version of the Q50 will notably be added alongside the powerful 400-horsepower Red Sport edition. Other big news for Infiniti: the QX50 will feature the world’s first-ever variable compression engine. This 2.0-L 4-cylinder will output 268 horsepower at a variable compression rate, providing drivers with the best of both worlds in terms of performance and fuel economy. To leave room for this all-new QX50, Infiniti has retired the QX70 (formerly the FX). The Q60, a newcomer last year, will return unchanged for 2018, and the Q70 is slated to undergo cosmetic upgrades in time for the 2020 model-year. The popular QX30 will also be back in 2018 without any major changes, while the QX60 will be available as a Limited edition over the course of the summer. The only noteworthy changes on the SUV front come with the QX80, which now sports a flashier style and a more luxurious feel to compete with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade, the Lexus LX 570 or the upcoming Lincoln Navigator.

JEEP refreshes its high-end SUVs
Jeep, the best-known and most lucrative division of the FCA Group, is launching a new Wrangler this year. After a ten-year wait, fans can expect a conservative stylistic evolution but lots of new developments when it comes to the cabin and powertrain. The Wrangler will be available with a new turbocharged 270-horsepower 4-cylinder engine as well as the returning 3.6-L V6.
A 3.0-L diesel model will become available sometime in 2018, and a plug-in hybrid is expected to make its debut in 2019. A much-awaited pickup version of the Wrangler, dubbed the Scrambler, is slated to arrive in dealerships in early 2019. It will include two rows of seating and a 6-foot bed. Other expected newcomers include the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which will be built on the same chassis as the Ram and share much of the latter’s mechanical components. Both Wagoneer versions will aim to compete in the high-end SUV segment with GM models such as the Tahoe, Yukon and Suburban. You’ll have to wait until mid2019 before seeing any Wagoneers on the road, though. Jeep has also postponed plans to renew its Grand Cherokee until 2019. The Cherokee and Compass, both of which were updated last year, will return unchanged for 2018, as will the Renegade.

DAVE SAYS Two Extremes Dear Dave, I’m about to graduate from college, and while I’ve been in school my mom has been handling most of my finances. Recently, I discovered she’s been taking my student loan money and spending it on herself. So far, it looks like she’s taken around $12,000, and I have a total of $25,000 in student loan debt. Since I realized this was happening, I’ve been reading your books and
learning how to manage my own money. I don’t know how to deal with this situation with her, though. She admits she did wrong, but says she can’t pay it back. Can you help? Alan Dear Alan, I hate hearing this. There’s no easy way to deal with these kinds of situations. The first thing you need to do is take over complete and total control of
all your finances. Shut down any accounts that have her name on them, and anything else financially-related that she can access. I know this sounds harsh, but she has proven she’s just not trustworthy. It’s a hard thing to hear about a parent, but at this point you’ve got to take steps to protect yourself. What she has been doing is theft, and financial child abuse. One extreme is to press criminal charges. The other extreme is to just forget it, and pay it. In between is a promise from her to repay everything she has taken, but she’s already out of control. That’s a promise that wouldn’t be kept. The problem with pros-

ecuting someone criminally for this type of action — other than the emotional toll, because she’s your mom — is the money’s already gone. It’s doesn’t make them magically have the money to repay you. On top of all this, you’d have a really hard time legally getting the student loans removed from your name due to theft. Honestly, under the circumstances I think you’re probably going to end up eating this. But sit down, and try to have a calm, clear discussion about what has happened, and why it happened. Let her know first, without a doubt, that you will criminally prosecute her if she ever uses your name to put money into her own
pocket again. Second, tell her you’re prepared to forgive her and forget about it — and she pays you back at some point, if she can — if she agrees to get some financial and emotional counseling. Last year, in 2017, many people took the opportunity to celebrate a century of farming with motor-powered tractors. Others, however, didn’t participate because they thought the tractor was either much older or much younger than that. But who is right? • John Froelich of Clayton County, Iowa, made the first gas-powered “traction engine” in 1892. Although it performed some of the functions of a tractor, it wasn’t as versatile or as efficient as its modern descendant. • In 1917 H e n r y Ford debuted his line of Fordson Tractors, which looked a lot like the modern version of a tractor. (A clever entrepreneur had bought the name “Ford Tractors” before the real Henry Ford, hoping to get an easy payday from the motor magnate — Ford chose instead to name his new offshoot company “Fordson.”) Some people claim that rather than being a modern tractor, however, the early Fordsons are closer to gas-powered ploughs. Hairstyles — reinventing the classics
You don’t know what to do with your hair these days? Here are this spring’s four major hair trends.
1. PONYTAILS
Even though the ponytail is being worn low this season, it comes in lots of different styles, from ultra-slick and shiny hair worn close to the head to a messier look, with lots of volume and a few strands floating free. Want an original touch? How about a twisted ponytail? You can conceal the elastic by wrapping a strand of hair around it, or even by adding a ribbon. Have fun!

Frills are everywhere. Huge or tiny, they add a playful yet elegant look to any outfit. As for sleeves, they’re expanding. Floating softly or outrageously full, they call to mind the voluminous blouse sleeves of the 1980s. And what about pleats? They’re small and either extremely colourful or very pale.
