Back To School
Well it’s that time again. Time for back to school for the kiddos. Time to pick up paper, pens, glue, clothes and bullet proof backpacks. When I was in grade school, we looked foward to back to school and I remember what I wanted was a Lone Ranger lunch box. Unfortunatly that
didn’t happen, so it was the brown bag express for me. When I went to school, we got out Memorial Day and we didn’t go back till the day after Labor Day. Of course, the reason it was set up that way was because of family farms needing the child labor. Now that family farms
are in decline child labor is not needed. But I digress , lets get back to the issue at hand school supplies. First of all don’t send kids to school in two hundred dollar tennis shoes and no school supplies. That makes me crazy. I remember when school was considered a safe haven. Recently, I was listenening to Rick Roberts on WBAP. Mr.

www.lsshopper.com • 1-855-320-7467 (SHOP) Roberts interviewed the inventor of Tuffy Packs. What are Tuffy Packs and what are they used for? According to their web site, TuffyPacks manufactures global defensive solutions to the ever increasing problem of active shooter incidents that are occurring at an alarming rate in our schools . Think about this,we are now equipping our precious children with bullet proof back packs. What have we as a society become? It’s no wonder parents who home school are becoming the norm. I have a litany of things public schools make me hot under the collar about. First of all teachers are underpaid . Administrators overpaid. We no longer teach useful things like morals, manners, civility, and other useful things. We don’t have financial literacy classes. Heck, I dont think we even have homemaking anymore. You know our forefathers had it right. Teach reading, writing and arithmetic and don’t neglect cursive while you’re at it and maybe the rest will take care of itself. Instead, schools unfortunately have become armed indoctrination compounds. I feel sorry for my grandchildren. No recess, very little creative time. It’s time we as parents got involved in our schools. We pay taxes, so visit
school board meetings. Visit your childs teachers and get to know your child’s principal. You can and should make a difference. Thanks for reading the Lone Star Shopper and as always, I’M PULLIN’ FOR YA!

DAVE SAYS
Larger Emergency Fund ?
Dear Dave, My wife and I are following your plan, and we just paid off all our debt except for the house. Since we work for the same company, do you think we should have an emergency fund that is larger than you normally recommend? Don Dear Don, That’s great news! You’ve finished Baby Step 2, and now you’re ready for Baby Step 3, which is fully-funding your emergency fund. I don’t see a reason to set aside more than six months of expenses. My recommended range for an emergency fund is three to six months of expenses. If your employment situation is one where there’s more risk of something going wrong, you should lean toward saving six months’ worth. If your employment outlook is really stable, you can go with setting aside three or four months of expenses in an emergency fund. I look at your situation as being more highrisk. You each have
jobs, so that’s the good news. But if the company went down, or experienced layoffs, you could find yourselves unemployed at the same time. My advice would be to save up six months of expenses for your emergency fund. With that kind of cash just sitting there, you should be able to make an easier and less stressful transition in almost any kind of unemployment scenario or other emergency. —Dave
Secured Vs Unsecured Debt
Dear Dave, What exactly is unsecured debt, and how is it different from secured debt? Rich Dear Rich, “Unsecured” debt geerally means someone loaned you money, but they don’t have a lien on anything. Credit cards and student loans are examples of unsecured debt, because there’s nothing they can directly repossess if the borrower doesn’t pay. However, they can sue you if you don’t pay, and get a
lien against something after they sue you. In some cases, this is done against your income by garnishing your wages. Some examples of “secured” debt would be things like a home mortgage or car loan. A home mortgage loan is secured by the home. If you don’t pay, they can foreclose and take the house. The same is true with a car loan. If you don’t make the payments, they can take the car. Typically, unsecured debts will be the last debts you pay if you’re in financial trouble. You’d make the car payment before paying on your student loan, and you’d make your house payment before paying on a credit card. Hope this helps, Rich! —Dave * Dave Ramsey is CEO of Ramsey Solutions.

(NAPSM) - By asking six simple questions, you can better identify the right auto repair shop to properly maintain one of your most valuable possessions, your car. What to ask 1. Does the workshop employ ASE-certified technicians? The credentials and affiliations indicate the professionalism and commitment of the management of a company for the training and education of its employees. 2. Is the workshop and customer waiting area clean and well organized? Cleanliness and organization are signs of a well-run business. 3. Are customers received and treated in a friendly and respectful manner? Many auto repair businesses stand out in the area of cus tomer service and satisfaction. A simple phone call to the workshop to ask about their services can give you an idea of how they treat customers. 4. Do you offer a written estimate of costs? The repair shop must send you an estimate in writ-
ing and require your signature before starting any repairs to your car. 5. Do you offer a guarantee? Most auto repair shops offer a warranty on parts and labor and the warranty is usually presented in writing or published in the waiting area. 6. Does the business have a list of satisfied customers or references that you are willing to give? Satisfied customers and the recommendations of family, friends and neighbors are useful to find a good workshop. Many car repair shops also have websites that are worth visiting, as they often include testimonials and additional information about that business. “A vehicle is an import ant purchase for most people, so it makes sense to take the time to select an auto repair shop that cares for your investment in the best possible way,” said Rich White, executive director of the Care Council. Car Care Care Council, a non-profit organization. “Being an informed consumer about

car care means not only knowing your vehicle and your service and maintenance needs, but also knowing the place where the repairs will be made.” A video from the Car Care Council, entitled “Auto Service and Repair: What to Expect”, provides valuable information on topics such as what to expect from the workshop and highlights true information about consumer rights and the manufacturer’s warranty. The Car Care Council is the source of information for the “Be Car Care Aware” consumer education campaign that promotes the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair. TEXAS JEWELRY
101 South Capitol ST Canton, TX 75103 903-567-6224 TEXAS JEWELRY PRESENTS THE PLAN OF SALVATION. How to Become a Christian
You're not here by accident. God loves you. He wants you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus, His Son. There is just one thing that separates you from God. That one thing is sin. The Bible describes sin in many ways. Most simply, sin is our failure to measure up to God’s holiness and His righteous standards. We sin by things we do, choices we make, attitudes we show, and thoughts we entertain. We also sin when we fail to do right things. The Bible affirms our own experience – “there is none righteous, not even one.” No matter how good we try to be, none of us does right things all the time. People tend to divide themselves into groups - good people and bad people. But God says that every person who has ever lived is a sinner, and that any sin separates us from God. No matter how we might classify ourselves, this includes you and me. We are all sinners. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 Many people are confused about the way to God. Some think they will be punished or rewarded according to how good they are. Some think they should make things right in their lives before they try to come to God. Others find it hard to understand how Jesus could love them when other people don't seem to. But I have great news for you! God DOES love you! More than you can ever imagine! And there's nothing you can do to make Him stop! Yes, our sins demand punishment - the punishment of death and separation from God. But, because of His great love, God sent His only Son Jesus to die for our sins. "God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 For you to come to God you have to get rid of your sin problem. But, in our own strength, not one of us can do this! You can't make yourself right with God by being a better person. Only God can rescue us from our sins. He is willing to do
this not because of anything you can offer Him, but JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU! "He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy." Titus 3:5 It's God's grace that allows you to come to Him - not your efforts to "clean up your life" or work your way to Heaven. You can't earn it. It's a free gift. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 For you to come to God, the penalty for your sin must be paid. God's gift to you is His son, Jesus, who paid the debt for you when He died on the Cross. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 Jesus paid the price for your sin and mine by giving His life on a cross at a place called Calvary, just outside of the city walls of Jerusalem in ancient Israel. God brought Jesus back from the dead. He provided the way for you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus. When we realize how deeply our sin grieves the heart of God and how desperately we need a Savior, we are ready to receive God's offer of salvation. To admit we are sinners means turning away from our sin and selfishness and turning to follow Jesus. The Bible word for this is "repentance" - to change our thinking about how grievous sin is, so our thinking is in line with God's. All that's left for you to do is to accept the gift that Jesus is holding out for you right now. "If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10 God says that if you believe in His son, Jesus, you can live
forever with Him in glory. "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16 Are you ready to accept the gift of eternal life that Jesus is offering you right now? Let's review what this commitment involves: I acknowledge I am a sinner in need of a Savior - this is to repent or turn away from sin I believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead this is to trust that Jesus paid the full penalty for my sins
I confess Jesus as my Lord and my God - this is to surrender control of my life to Jesus I receive Jesus as my Savior forever - this is to accept that God has done for me and in me what He promised If it is your sincere desire to receive Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior, then talk to God from your heart: Here's a Suggested Prayer:
"Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life."
