According to a City of Tyler Presslease, Tyler City Councilman Criss Sudduth, Representative for District 6, was remembered by his colleagues Thursday as a devoted public servant and community leader. Sudduth passed away Thursday evening after a long illness. “It was my honor and privilege to serve with Criss,” said Mayor Martin Heines. “His strength of character, unwavering optimism and faith inspired our City Council and the entire East Texas community.” Sudduth was elected in 2019 for City Council District 6 through special election, serving the remainder of the
County Rehabilitation Center, and SBMP, Inc. Sudduth’s past community service included working on the Board of Directors for North Tyler Developmental Academy, Tyler Area Drug Abuse Program, Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Contact Club and the Independent Insurance Agents of Tyler. He was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church, where he co-coordinated the 10:30 Resonate Worship service, and was serving his second term as Chair of the Insurance Committee. Criss was married to his wife Dana for more than 35 years. He is survived by his wife, their three grown children and three grandchildren.

Dear Dave, I’ve never heard you talk about store layaway programs. With Christmas coming, I wanted to ask your opinion of using layaway for buying gifts. Meg Dear Meg, If you know me, you probably have a good idea what’s coming next. I’m not a huge fan of layaway programs, because they’re not the answer to a problem. I mean, Christmas comes at the same time every year. It’s not like it snuck up on you. What’s wrong with just saving up money for Christmas ahead of time? Here’s a good rule of thumb: if you don’t have the mon-
ey on hand, you can’t afford it. Now, sometimes there are instances when certain popular items are on sale, and you can take advantage of them through layaway if you don’t have enough cash at that very moment. I don’t have a huge problem with this sort of thing, as long as it’s not habitual behavior, and you’re already saving money and living on a budget. Still, I would never, ever recommend using a layaway plan with fees attached. It may be too late to budget for this Christmas, but I want you to make plans to start living on a written, monthly budget in January. Make it a resolution! Give

every dollar a name, on paper, before the upcoming month begins. You can include Christmas spending in those monthly budgets, too. I want to take a moment to announce my reelection for Van Zandt Constable Pct.1. I was elected in 2009 on the Republican ticket thanks in part to Obama. I have served the citizens for going on twelve years. I waited this long to announce because several things had to fall in place. I wanted to know I could continue to serve you the people without any questions. I have had one issue with my heart rate in 2015 where a pacemaker was put in place. I still have the same drive I had when first elected to serve. I was granted a basic Peace office license in 1990. In 2008 I ran for Van Zandt constable Pct 1 my opponent was a good friend and still is to this day. I have advanced my position to a Master Peace Officer. In my twelve years we have continued to serve you 24 hours a day seven days a week. WE have four Deputy Constables that work 20 hours a month. They furnish their own vehicle along with gas. The deputy's patrol many miles and one deputy work an average of 100 hours a month. We not only serve papers and bailiff our court we work our own criminal cases and make numerous arrest if needed. My budget for fuel for the year in $ 5000.00 that limits me to The miles I patrol every month which is around 3000. The hours I
work is geared to on call all hours day and night. ! I asked everyone to pray that we make the right decision when we vote on any candidate in March.
