National Weather Service Releases Quick Facts About Recent Tornado Outbreak

A total of 7 tornadoes have been confirmed thus far across Henderson, Hopkins, Rains and Van Zandt counties. The long track Eustace to West Canton tornado has been rated EF-4 (180 M.P.H. winds). The EF-4 tornado in Van Zandt County was the highest rated tornado in the county since 1950. An additional long track tornado (near Steve Creek in southern Van Zandt County to Canton to Emory) has been rated EF-3 (145 M.P.H. winds) 4 additional tornadoes occurred in Van Zandt County on this day. This results in a total of 6 tornadoes in Van Zandt County which sets a record for most number of tornadoes in a calendar day for Van Zandt since 1950. 1 brief tornado was observed in Hopkins County near the community of Miller Grove, just south of Cumby. There were a total of 4 direct fatalities along with numerous injuries suffered during the April 29, 2017, East Texas Tornado Event

Dear Dave, I recently started following your plan, and I’ve looked into refinancing the home I bought five years ago to free up more money to put toward paying off debt. My interest rate is 3.625 percent, along with a private mortgage insurance payment of $200 per month. This makes my mortgage payment $2,700 a month, and I owe $325,000 on the house. I was offered a re-financing plan that included a monthly payment of $2,576 with no PMI, but the interest rate would be 4.6 percent. What do you think? Phil Dear Phil, You don’t need to refinance with those numbers. You’d be going up more in terms of interest rate than you’d save with no PMI. The only reason the payment is going down is that you’d be agreeing to stay in debt longer. Now, if you could’ve lost some of that interest rate, and gotten rid of the PMI, that might have come close to making sense. But, even that might not have worked in the end, because you’d have closing costs associated with the deal. There’s no way this deal is a good idea. You’d essentially be going up

in terms of interest, and all you’d really be doing is resetting, or re-casting, the loan. Basically, you’d be starting over on the loan. That’s why the larger payment and PMI would go away, but you’d have a significant increase in your interest rate. Where you’re at right now is fine, Phil. You’re off to a good start, so just keep on moving forward with getting out of debt and gaining control of your finances! —Dave

With all this in mind, what do you think about the idea of vintage watches as an investment? I work with a high-end retail company, and I’ve noticed certain sports watches have been doubling or even tripling in value over

time. Would it be okay to spend around $5,000 on a vintage watch now, or should I wait until we’re in even better financial shape? Mike Dear Mike, Yeah, you could do that. Just make sure you look at it the right way. It would be a hobby, not a real investment. I have a friend who has collected a few thousand bottles of wine over the years. The value of most of them has gone up since he bought them, but it’s not part of his investment strategy. So, if you buy a $5,000 watch in your situation, that’s okay. Just don’t go nuts and buy 10 of them, you know? What we’re talking about here are collectibles. It could be the first step in building a collection of fine watches over the years. You could do the same thing with cars, but don’t make them part of your investment strategy. Treat them like consumption items, things you can afford to spend money on and enjoy. Accidential Publisher Lots Of Debris Spotted During East Texas And Canton Tornadoes

his past Wednesday June 29, 2019 started like any other in East Texas. The weather was warm and the sun was shining and many hoped that warm weather would dry up some of the area fields that were sopping wet from recent heavy rains. After two, or three things started to change when the first tornado watches were issued for the National Weather Service. The Storms first moved from west to east an then another batch hit from south to north. Early on Tarrant County was under a watch, then downtown Fort Worth was under a warning for a short time. Meanwhile those storms started moving east hitting Argyle and later Rockwall County. At about three PM the first round of storms came up from Mabank and Gun Barrell City,

however it wasn’t until the late afternoon storm made it’s presence known in Canton. According to Joe Ochoa owner of Canton Boost Mobile the five O’ clock storm was making a beeline for the store located at 222 West Dallas. When the storm got closer to downtown Canton it took a western turn skipped a few blocks and took it’s toll on Mr. D’s Valero at highway 19 and 64. According to owners and employees of 3 D’s pizza on the Canton square they spent much of the afternoon in the Van Zandt County Courthouse basement. The tornado overturned eighteen wheelers on interstate 20 and headed north to Grand Saline. According to National Weather service, a total of 7 tornadoes have been confirmed thus far across Henderson, Hopkins, Rains and Van Zandt counties. The long track Eustace to West Canton tornado has been rated EF-4 (180 M.P.H. winds). Normally I hate it when someone says “it could have been a lot worse”, however in this situation many lives were spared because of one thing. First Monday had not started yet. I hesitate to think of the consequences had this happened during the flea market’s run.

417 motorcyclists died, 1,920 seriously injured in crashes on Texas roads

AUSTIN – As spring weather draws more motorcyclists onto roadways the risk of fatalities increases. Last year 417 motorcyclists died on Texas roadways, an average of more than one fatality a day. It’s a number the Texas Department of Transportation is working to reduce by asking motorists to be extra vigilant. TxDOT is launching “Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles” – a campaign supporting National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month this May. “Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles” urges drivers to be extra cautious, since motorcyclists are more difficult to see and less protected than other motorists. “Last year motorcycle fatalities were reduced by 17 %, which is a big step forward; still one death is too many for the Lone Star State,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass. ”As motorcyclists hit the road to enjoy the open air and beautiful scenery, it’s important that vehicle drivers and motorcyclists remain alert and look out for each other on the road. We want everyone to enjoy what Texas offers and

reach their destinations safely,” One of the most common crashes between motorcyclists and drivers occurs when drivers make left turns at intersections, due to motorists’ difficulty judging the distance and speed of motorcycles. TxDOT
