Best Things to Invest in During Your Twenties
Your 20s are the time in your life in which you really shape who you are going to be as an adult. Decisions made in your twenties can affect the rest of your life, so it is important to spend your time and resources on the things that will be most rewarding to you. There are opportunities you can take in your 20s that may not be available again down the road. Let’s take a look at some areas that warrant your investment, and why.
Education Education is extremely influential on how your life will turn out. What you decide to study, or the trade you decide to learn, will establish the standard of living you are able to achieve, as well as how you spend a large chunk of your time. Think about it: eight hours a day is a third of your life. So, be sure you train in a field that you find rewarding and that you will be able to support yourself in.
Family
Even though your twenties is when you become a fully formed adult and are free from and parental control and guidance, don’t forget the importance of family. For many twentysomethings, parents take on a new role as friends and trusted advisors rather than authority figures, and the value of this cannot be overstated. Maybe you have siblings close to your age, and you can share some of the newness of adulthood with them. If you’re lucky enough to have grandparents, don’t let the business of life cause you to neglect them, either. Treasure your family.
Traveling, discovering, fun You will probably develop some financial independence for the first time while in your twenties. Having not taken on the burdens of marriage or children yet, this may be a good time to do some traveling. See some foreign places and things now while you’re healthy and unburdened with the constraints of raising a family; if you wait years or decades, it might be too late. You might want to live in several different cities before settling down and planting roots. Your twenties are also a good time to make friends and connections who are also new adults. Sharing experiences with peers can often result in treasured friendships that last years, or even for life. Have a little fun, knowing that even though you’re now an adult, many of life’s serious responsibilities and burdens haven’t presented themselves to you yet.
