Even after spending many years with the program, we all find some value in continuing with the Toastmasters club experience; be it with the exhilaration of making a speech in front of an audience, attempting a table topics, be it the possibility of giving a valuable, motivating feedback to someone, or the opportunity of influencing someone’s life in a positive way.

fierce speech contests as well as be a part of inception of new clubs. These immersive educative experiences often demanded deep commitment on my part, however it has left me with a totally transformed perspective of the toastmasters learning journey than the one I had originally started with.
The challenge of balancing multiple conflicting priorities as well as dealing with a diverse spectrum of people with perspectives not necessarily similar to our own, puts a constant demand on us to be realistic, patient and tactful in our roles as leaders endowed with the task of facilitating inner transformation.
Dear Friend, It gives me immense pleasure to reach out to you at the beginning of this toastmaster year. I’m reminded of my own Toastmasters journey which started in 2009 . It offered me the opportunity to involve in a multiplicity of officer roles in various clubs, host

take on the mantle of program quality leadership for our division. I believe it is indeed a matter of great privilege to have this opportunity to impact your learning journey. Thank you.
1. A Club Leadership team that understands the levels, goals and aspirations of its individual members
At the outset let us acknowledge that your primary aspiration is in your own self development. And you obviously want the best for yourself. In this connection I’d like to share that having been in corporate training for the past 26 years and having had reasonable exposure to the various kinds of development initiatives,
2. An Club Educational Vision that focuses on offering maximum value to the audience in each session 3. A set of members who really want to learn and grow 4. A club culture that is respectful, fair and creative
I assure you that the Toastmasters education program is one of the best I’ve come across which has the capability to bring quick, positive and significant inner transformation.
I dream to team up with you to together help create a vibrant club environment with possibilities for high value learning and fun during each meeting, therefore I request the following from the club leadership team and the members.
So congratulations on your decision.
To the Club Leadership Team:
However I’d like to also gently remind you that selecting a great learning program is one only part of the journey of inner transformation. By July 2017, we will all have completed one more year in toastmasters. Members will
I’m sure you are aware that one of the missions of Toastmasters is to enhance the quality and performance of clubs. As club leaders, you perpetuate this mission. Members are drawn to and 6
To Club Members:
stay in clubs that foster an environment of mutual support and enrichment. You support clubs in creating this environment by soliciting club needs and offering perspective and knowledge. Here are some of the things that as leaders you might consider doing early on:
1. You never know if you have arrived unless you have established where you want to go. So do sit with your VP Education and set ambitious but realistic goals and a plan to achieve them.
1. Ensure you have a conversation with each member of your club in order to ensure you both agree on their learning goals and a plan for achieving it.
2. Someone had rightly said, “you get out of toastmasters in proportion to what you put into toastmasters” .This is extremely important. Do demonstrate initiative to participate in as many roles, speeches and events that you can.
2. Seek feedback and ideas from members after each meeting, ask them for ideas of bringing creativity and fun to club meetings.
3. Do remember that the quality of performance at a club meeting is a direct correlated to the intensity of preparation done before the meeting. There is no way to by-pass that crucial step. So do spend as much time preparing.
3. Constantly update yourself on each members learning progress and engage with them constantly
With these I’m sure we will have made as much progress as we desire. Wish you a wonderful learning experience. 7

roles like VP membership, VP education, president and Area Director Role. Starting a new club and see it grow gives the same pleasure as when you see your own child grow. I am proud to say that the two clubs which I was a part of in starting-up and mentoring are performing well today.
Life is about making an impact rather than an income,
that is the reason I took up the role and did my best to give back to the toastmaster fraternity and I will always continue to do so. When I look back at the journey, it gives me immense pride to mentor so many new members and a couple of new clubs too. This year too I aim to add new clubs to the Area and the Division.

AREA 63 DIRECTOR TM ZAKI HANNA
My journey with Toastmasters International started with Kimji Toastmasters Club in 2011, and Almedan Toastmasters Club (Arabic Speaking Club) in 2015. So far I have completed my ACB, CL. For me Toastmasters is a long life journey, an education process, a self-development path to excel. Being a toastmaster means you are a different person. Your life will have a new meaning. Improving your communication and leadership is part of it, but having a new family is what is more important. Being a part of the club contest, area, division and district create in you a wonderful feeling. In other words, you are no longer alone; a new family has been born to you.
Dear Toastmasters,

HEAD OF ARABIC TOASTMASTERS CLUB AFFAIRS, DISTRICT 20
TM SALEH AL KHAMYASI night made me go back. I joined Toastmasters in April 2010 and somehow I thought my presence there was a mere April Fools ’ Day because I attended few sessions and delivered fewer speeches during that year.
Amidst such a shaky commitment, sincerity had to be put in action. I had to be sincere with myself. I had to own my personal growth. As a result, I set a target to complete my Competent Communicator projects no later than December 2011 failing which would mean bidding Toastmasters goodbye. Becoming a toastmaster was a pleasant coincidence. In fact sincerity made it a fruitful experience. The sincerity of DTM Rajesh Daga while he was persuading me to visit NTI Toastmasters made me go. The sincerity of the club officers and members in welcoming me on that
Sincerity made that target achievable and from that point onward Toastmasters became like oxygen without which I felt suffocated. Life became a journey with a clear mission of inspiring as many people as I can irrespective of geography, ethnicity 22
or gender. Such a mission is a head rocking and utterly time consuming but the happiness I get from this act of kindness is beyond description. I flew with wings of fire from clubs to areas, to division, to district and even International.
pillars, you will be as solid as a rock. The challenges you will face in between will strengthen and prepare you for the future. Friends always make sure that you sincerely love what you do.
The journey was not rosy nor was it utterly thorny. It depended on the attitude I embraced therefore, I always looked at it as a glass half full rather than half empty.
With sincerity, assignments such as speaking, training, judging, leading, mentoring, writing, translating even interpreting became pleasant memories and rich experiences. I was one of the leaders who contemplated splitting division D into two and rejoiced the birth of Division R to gift our members more leadership opportunities to grow and excel. As our newly born Division R delves into its second year, we need to strengthen it through our sincere efforts. This would be possible with sincerity only. It would be a reality with a clear vision and undeterred commitment. Likewise, in my capacity as the Head of Arabic Toastmasters clubs Affairs in District 20 this year, I vividly know that success will be possible through sincere efforts towards a green pasture. Let us make the magic of our sincerity prevail, after all as you sow, so shall you reap.
Sincerity taught me that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. It begins with understanding the mission of Toastmasters club and how we can contribute to making it a tangible reality. It begins with accepting the promise of Toastmasters and honoring our commitment. It begins with appreciating the Toastmasters values and by starting to navigate our ship as we interact with a wide spectrum of people and treat them with Respect, integrity, Service and Excellence, RISE, the very theme on which this newsletter is based. Sincerity taught me that once you are tuned to these essential 23

mentor Rajesh Daga. I got through my icebreaker. It was a miracle.
I had taken my first faltering steps into this great journey called Toastmasters. I was used to communicating with people in profound and emotional ways in my profession. I was used to giving medical presentations. But this was a different ballgame. With encouragement and coaxing and feedback from a number of new friends, I played ball. Coaches and cheerleaders- DTM Rajesh Daga, DTM Girish Kumar, DTM Mohammed Salar, DTM M.V. Jose, to name a few, guided, led, traveled together on this tremendous, exciting odyssey. I met and listened to the best speakers and life coaches in the world, attended five international conventions and am traveling to the sixth this week.
I stood there in that small room in front of about fifteen people. My knees were buckling. My arms were two redundant appendages. My hands wanted to hide in my pockets like two rodents. My speech was all but forgotten. Then I saw that encouraging nod and smile from my
My life has seen a sea change. I am calmer. I listen better. I talk better with 24
my patients. My communication with my colleagues at work has improved tremendously. I negotiate better and deal with conflicts and crisis like never before. My family life reached a new high. Above all I learned how to lead with empathy.
In a few months, I will be moving back to India to set up a charity based Children’s Heart Surgery service in a brand new Medical College. But I have another dream too: to incorporate a Toastmasters based communication and leadership program into the Medical curriculum, to help doctors of tomorrow find their speaking voice, as I found mine.
I am preparing for the next big change in my life.

new division created only this year. It’s a blank canvas and you have the privilege to paint the most colourful, vibrant and pulsating picture on this canvas. Having played roles at this level in Toastmasters, I am pretty confident that when you finish the year, you will be a better, more confident and improved leader. Such a position comes with lot more responsibilities and demand higher levels of commitment.
The leaders who make the difference are the ones who serve with extreme dedication and passion.
Dear Leaders, Congratulations on taking up the leadership role in Division R. It’s a matter of honor and pride to don the badge that proudly displays your designation in gold. It is all the more creditable that you are part of a brand
They find more time to help members, clubs, area and division. They are available to contribute at all times, lead by example, and set a high benchmark for Toastmasters to emulate. 26
At the same time, it is quite a challenge to bring every one along. The leaders are able to understand that we have our own limitations and constraints, talent and capabilities. Yet, we find a common ground to bring every one together for a common purpose of self-development with relentless effort.
Let’s make this year of your leadership lot more fun and enjoyable. Ralph C. Smedley said, “We learn best in moments of enjoyment”. Wishing you a great year of fellowship, leadership and strong relationship.
Happy Toastmastering
Of course, it is not an easy task, but who said we develop when we have a cake walk.
It’s the tough times when we learn more, grow more. DTM Girish Kumar is one of the finest person I have known. And I have known him ever since I joined Toastmasters. His ability to support members, sea of knowledge and always smiling face is sure to lead the Division R to Presidents Distinguished Division in 2016-17.
