Connection
Influenced by the ideals of International Style and inspired by a desire to connect function with aesthetic, the building strives to be as appeasing to the natural environment as possible while keeping the comfort of the tenants in mind. The interior space embraces the beauty of its surrounding, natural environment.

This design bridges the gap between public and private spaces within the home, fusing them into one programmatically simplistic yet functionally dynamic and sustainable space. The program is light in order to maximize efficiency while minimizing the carbon foot print. It includes all of the necessary commodities of a living space in the smallest dimensional size possible to avoid excess disruption to the natural environment.

The library sits at the crossroads of innovation and tradition. Each face of the building adheres to the conditions of its adjacent context and bring together the two seperated regions. Exterior green spaces are available to the public for recreational use. The building offers to the town of West Dundee an academic and cultural center consisting of; a public library, research institute, art gallery, class and meeting rooms and a lecture hall.

Humans were created with an innate desire to live in community- we seek out fellowship in all environments. Our desire to fit in drives our decisions, lifestyles, and beliefs. Zoning has created segregated regions that separate humans from nature. ElemenTower exists to reunite the four elements of nature: fire, water, wind, and earth to a fifth element, us.

Utilizing the spatial efficiency of the three-story, Chicagostyle townhome and the communal aspects of courtyard living, ElemenTower has created interactive skycommunities. Together, with the elements, this tower has brought the community of a courtyard, enhanced by the natural elements, into high-rise living. ElemenTower has reversed the negative effects of seclusion, found in typical residential towers, and reunited the five elements.

Evolution of Interior Living Spaces
ElemenTower combines the spacial efficiency of the three-story townhome with the communal aspects of a courtyard. In doing so a hybrid space is created which benefits from the ability to cultivate community on a smaller, more intimate scale. This model also provides two faces to each residence, a private and a public- an interior and an exterior.

Unity Through Divine Creation
No matter what faith or religous background we come from, we are all drawn to the natural elements of divine creation. In order to encourage community and fellowship between the four faiths there needed to be an element of common ground amongst them. Due to natures divine and spiritual effect on us, the heart of the building has been designed as a centralized courtyard. This courtyard asks as a backdrop for the main worship space and provides the building with natural light and natural ventilation.

This radial design for the multi-faith worship center emphasizes a focus on the centralized altar, which is placed at the centerpoint of the circle. This most holy of spaces within the building creates a ripple effect, much like a droplet in still water, to which the rest of the organization and program adhere to. It is at this point where a central courtyard illuminates the building and unifies the program. Worshipers are drawn inward toward the natural elements of water and light. All faiths can find commonality in these elements and therefore can feel a sense of community with each other.

Prayer Chapels Each Chapel is specifically designed to meet the liturgical needs of each faith and are embedded with an ornamental or symbolic gesture distinct to each faith. These symbols express the faiths presence within the multi-faith building as well as bring in additional light and views to the river. As you enter each chapel you pass through a waterwall symbolizing the spiritual cleansing experienced through worship. Once through the water a skylit pathway guides the user up a shallow ramp symbolizing an ascension into a more sacred place and into an space elevated over a rain water pond. This pond reflects natural daylight up the walls of the space to emphasize the connection between worshiper and the divine creation of nature.

Transit Oriented Development Within our overly dense cities, where is there space for new construction? The answer lies in the air above our highways. Miles upon miles of space above Chicago’s highway system currently remain ignored when prime park and other undeveloped green spaces are being lost in development. By utilizing our highways for construction we will not only meet the needs for new construction but also protect the environment and build upon an infrustructure that has already been put in place.

This 100,000 square foot, mixed use prototypical building proposal seeks to explore the possibilities and advantages of building overtop I-90 just outside of Chicago. The building includes; offices, residences, retail, fitness and conference center, and a public multi-pupose room that overlooks the highway as it flows toward Chicago. The building is oriented South Elevation to maximize solar energy and natural daylighting and also includes a public rooftop garden, tennis court and running track.

Phenomenology
The goal for this project was to edit space with the use of either; lens, filter, reflection or frame. This project utilizes the natural reflection of the pond in order to create an illusion that frames a space that doesn’t exist. The finished product depicts a three dimensional cube that defines space within the water but in fact is nothing more than an image projected on the surface. The four “mini” cubes light up at night to enhance the illusion and idea that the cube is floating in space rather than on water.

Simplicity + Function
The project consisted of a pool house, to accommodate a soonto-be swimming pool, that matched the aesthetics of the existing adjacent house. The design was to be simple in nature and provide the homeowners with adequate shaded space for lounging, an interior kitchen with small dining area, bathroom, and a mechanical space accessible from the outside. Deep overhangs were designed and built to provide cover from the elements while french and patio doors bring a visual connectivity between interior and exterior spaces.
