JOSHUA PURBA

Hi there, my name is Joshua Purba, and I am a self-taught graphic designer who began my journey in 2020 during the pandemic. I've been passionate about graphic design for as long as I can remember, and the pandemic gave me the opportunity to finally dive in and start working on my craft.

Since then, I've completed several projects, including posters, brochures, logos, packaging, and social media management. I love working on a wide range of projects because it challenges me to think creatively and come up with unique designs that stand out.

I am a firm believer that good design is all about effectively communicating a message, and my goal as a graphic designer is to create designs that not only look great but also effectively convey the intended message.

Being self-taught means that I have had to rely on my own initiative and resources to learn the skills necessary for the job. But, it has also taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn new things.

In the future, I hope to continue growing and improving as a designer while working on projects that inspire me creatively and allow me to make a positive impact on the world through my work.

1. Identify the target audience: Before designing a brochure, it is important to identify the target audience. This will help in determining the design, layout, and content of the brochure. The target audience for promoting FTSL ITB can be prospective students, parents, alumni, and industry professionals.

2. Determine the key message: The key message of the brochure should be to highlight the unique features and benefits of FTSL ITB. This can include the quality of education, the expertise of the faculty, the state-of-the-art facilities, and the success stories of alumni.

3. Design and layout: The design and layout of the brochure should be visually appealing and easy to read. The brochure should have a professional look and feel and should be consistent with the branding of FTSL ITB. The design can include images, graphics, and charts to enhance the message.

Managing TPSDA ITB's social media to promote and disseminate the latest information

Social media has become a powerful tool to promote and disseminate information. To manage TPSDA ITB's social media, the following steps can be taken:

1. Identify the target audience: The first step is to identify the target audience. This will help in determining the type of content and the social media platforms to use. The target audience for TPSDA ITB can be prospective students, parents, alumni, industry professionals, and the general public.

2. Choose the right social media platforms: TPSDA ITB can use various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram. Each platform has a different audience and serves a different purpose. For example, LinkedIn is more suitable for professional networking, while Instagram is ideal for visual content.

3. Develop a social media strategy: The social media strategy should align with TPSDA ITB's goals and objectives. The strategy should include the type of content to be shared, the frequency of posts, and the tone of voice.

BROCHURE

A brochure is a versatile marketing tool that can be used to promote a wide range of products and services. It's a printed document that is usually folded into a compact size, making it easy to distribute and carry.Brochures are designed to be visually appealing, with high-quality images and graphics that catch the reader's attention. The information provided in a brochure may include details about the product or service, its features and benefits, pricing, and contact information.With its visually appealing design and concise information, a well-designed brochure can capture the attention of potential customers and help drive sales

This is my very rst project working on a brochure, which was assigned to me by the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Bandung Institute of Technology. The purpose of this brochure is to promote the various programs o ered by the faculty to high school students who are interested in pursuing their studies at the Bandung Institute of Technology. As part of this project, I was tasked with creating three brochures, each highlighting a di erent program within the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. I worked on this project for approximately two weeks, and the brochures were subsequently used at major events at the Bandung Institute of Technology, including the ITB Open House 2022 and the AMI ITB 2022

SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media design is the process of designing user interfaces for social media platforms. It involves thinking and planning about the appearance, layout, and functions that need to be provided for users to interact easily and efficiently.

Social media design also includes determining visual elements such as colors, typography, and graphics that are used to build the brand and image of the platform. Good design should reflect the platform's brand or identity while considering user preferences and needs.

The project I am working on was given by the Head of the Study Program and the Head of Student Affairs in the Water Resources Engineering and Management Program at Bandung Institute of Technology. Previously, the Water Resources Engineering and Management Program at ITB did not have a social media account to promote and provide the latest information related to the program, and I have a team of 3 people to manage the Instagram account and tasked with developing it to function optimally in terms of conveying information and promoting the program to external parties outside the campus.

TYPOGRAPHY DESIGN

Typography refers to the art and technique of arranging type in order to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. It involves selecting typefaces, point sizes, line lengths, line-spacing, and letter-spacing, and adjusting the space between pairs of letters, among other things.

Typography is an essential aspect of graphic design, branding, and advertising. It is used to convey a message, mood, or emotion through the visual representation of written language. Good typography enhances the readability and aesthetic appeal of a piece of text, while poor typography can hinder comprehension and even detract from the intended message.

They are designed to be eye-catching and use visuals to attract attention and help communicate the intended message. Posters can be displayed on walls, billboards, or other visible locations to reach a large audience.

PACKAGING

Packaging design is the process of creating an attractive and effective visual and structural packaging for products, which is aimed at capturing the attention of consumers, protecting the product, and providing information about the product. Its goal is to make the packaging memorable and recognizable to consumers, making it easier for them to recall and choose the product off the shelf. Additionally, packaging design must consider factors such as functionality, production cost, safety, and environmental friendliness.

I created this design for the "Cosmos" product design competition which was themed around Indonesia to celebrate the Indonesian Independence Day. I developed two design concepts. The rst concept depicted iconic Indonesian landmarks such as the Borobudur Temple, Gedung Sate, Rumah Bolon, Jam Gadang and other buildings, combined with traditional Batak art known as "Gorga". This is evident in the batik-like design, which is a distinctive art form from North Sumatra. The second concept was a simple design featuring three enthusiastic children celebrating the Indonesian Independence

The design of a certificate should be professional and visually appealing, reflecting the importance and value of the achievement.
