DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
My design philosophy revolves around the concept that we, as design students, have been taught one way or another, that it is our responsibility to always maintain the health, safety and welfare of the public. As I have matured as a designer through my four years of higher education, it has been ingrained that it is my responsibility to think critically about all aspects of a project. Details ranging from the amount of exits or the placement of walls, to the more minute, like maximum wall protrusions or even the thickness of carpet. My inspirations are Frank Lloyd Wright and Luis Barragan, because both of these architects try and succeed in harmonizing humanity with nature. Both of these architects accomplished to design buildings and structures that allowed them to blend with nature, yet they still managed to create a clear distinction between their design and the environment around them. Both of these architects created simple designs but they each had elements that made the spaces unique in every way.

The Makai is a Polynesian Style Retail Residential Design. It is located in Ha’ena State Park, Kauai, Hawaii. The concept behind this retail residential design is Polynesian based. The main focus of it is a double hulled canoe, called a Hokule’a. Both the retail and residential spaces are high in stature, mimicking the mountains and other aspects of the natural environment. The majority of the materials used also revolve around the Polynesian culture and can be found on the Hawaiian islands. INSPIRATION 3: A-FRAME OR TRIANGULAR MOTIF

We Think is a branding company located in Dallas, Texas. They specialize in creating unique designs for their clients. While this can become very stressful, I strived to create a relaxing work environment for this company. I achieved this through the use of color, specifically primary colors. I used different variations and shades of yellow, red, and blue, while also using different textures and patterns around the different spaces. My goal was also achieved by placing different types of furniture in the areas around the office. This allowed for the staff to work more comfortably and take a break in the spaces provided while also removing themselves from what is commonly seen as a workplace.

Hendrick Oncology Center Hendrick Medical Center houses an Oncology Center that is located in Abilene, Texas. The current floor plan of the Hendrick Oncology Center was originally very disorganized and did not have a clear flow between the spaces. My three concept words for my design are hope, harmony, and rejuvenation. With these three words I came up with the concept of sunrise. This can represent the start to a new beginning, the start of a new day. For most, a sunrise is a scenic view of nature and is seen as a beautiful thing. How I designed the interior space was bright with colors but not overwhelming and the space planning allows for patients and staff to easily maneuver throughout the space.

ELITE TOWER IN DUBAI, U.A.E.
The Dubai Project is a high end residential apartment design. My concept behind this design was family devotion which is seen as an important part within the Muslim community. I did a lot of research on the Muslim community to keep my design as halal as possible. While designing this apartment, I had to keep Mecca in consideration as well because the clients were devout Muslims. I tried keeping the design as simple as possible while still including high end materials and appliances. The client did not want to have the typical flashy apartment design seen in Dubai because they kept in mind the humanitarian needs of the community.

05 CHAIR PROJECT My Chair project was designed through the use of AutoCAD and was physically cut out in three dimensional form on the CNC router out of three quarter inch plywood. My inspiration for the chair was Frank Lloyd Wright. Like Wright’s designs, it looks simple in appearance but was a complex design.

06 REBRANDING FOR HENDRICK MEDICAL CENTER This project is graphic design based. The goal of this project was to redesign the brand mark of a local Abilene establishment or company. My concept behind this brand mark was sunrise and the holy trinity. Because Hendrick Medical Center is a Christian based hospital.

07 TARANTINO ESQUE PHOTOGRAPHS
“THE NAZI”
“THE BODY”
“THE STUNMAN”
“THE GUN”
The concept that drove the shoot was the way that Tarantino portrays each and every character within his movies. Each character being as fierce as the next, regardless of sex or race. I wanted to capture that fierceness that each character shows throughout each movie. “The Nazi” is the point of view of the noncompliant nazi who’s inevitable end came at the hands of Sgt. Donny “the Bear Jew” Donowitz from the film Inglourious Basterds. “The Body” is from the point of view of a body of an unfortunate man who stood in the way of Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction. “The Stuntman” is from the point of view from Stuntman Mike McKay who pushed his luck and picked a fight with three vengeful women from the film Death Proof. Lastly, “The Gun” is from the point of view of Venita Green’s gun as a last attempt to kill Beatrix “the Bride” Kiddo.

08 HDR ARCHITECTURE
OVER EXPOSED RAW IMAGE
For this project, I used a technique called HDR, or High Dynamic Range. For these types of photos, I had to take anywhere between 3 to 5 pictures ranging from over exposed photos, in which too much light enters the lens, to underexposed photos, where too little light enters the lens. Once all the photos were taken, I had to use a combination of Photoshop and Lightroom to merge all the photos to get the photo that is on the right. The subject is an old car lot in Abilene, Texas.
