Hotel + Restoration

To design a hotel around one of Italian Navy lighthouse still in operation on a urged coastal cliffs

01 Community + Urban Design Cano De Martin Pena, Puerto Rico

Seen from above the Cano de Martin community is in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. There are eight neighborhoods that make up the Cano (river) de Martin Pena community. The informal settlement built up mangrove marsh. Inadequate sewage and trash infrastructure has led to the canal being so polluted that the once 200’ wide canal is now only 15’ and stagnant at many points with visible sewage. Our first design attempts were executed using ‘junk’ media to abstract our intent in space. Our chosen design is based on facilitating and improving the lives of the residents we observed. Parking and overcrowded streets would be addressed by placing a central parking facility with ground retail spaces

Through many years of efforts the community with the aid of it’s grassroots organization Enlace has obtained funding to dredge the canal. Many of the houses are condemned and in extreme flood zones. Our design takes the area of the most flooding and damaged hoses and converts it to a public green space approx 360,000 sq ft.

Translating the parti model shows our areas of concentrated density And center open space. The Canal was given an additional leg to encapsulate the urban escape

In beautiful downtown Denver just at the foot of the Rocky Mountains is the site. It is Adjacent to the Denver Union Station which features an underground bus terminal, train and light-rail service.

The main terminal space has been re-done by OMA and the historic station building has been converted into a hotel with cafe’s and waiting area in the old station lobby. Coors field and millennium bridge are both a few blocks away with many restaurants and venues nearby.
