As the early morning sun bathes the university sports complex in warm light, teams from various backgrounds gather for a day of intense competition. Nevertheless, despite the fierce rivalry that will unfold on the field, there is a palpable sense of togetherness in the air.

The camaraderie seen at the opening ceremony is impossible to miss. Athletes from several opposing teams stand side by side, bound by a shared passion for sports. An exciting and gratifying sense of unity is created by the crowd’s clamor and the vibrant flags flapping in the breeze.

The protagonists of this partnership include the College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CISC).

In a dazzling spectacle held at the CMU Grandstand on a cloudy afternoon, these two distinct colleges came together as one tremendous force. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation as the audience eagerly awaited the grand reveal of this extraordinary collaboration.

As the program reached its crescendo, a presenter emerged, donning the wildcat head mascot, symbolizing the fierce unity of Team COE x CISC Wildcats. With a burst of energy and the infectious beat of drums, they led a spirited dance-off that reverberated through the grandstand.

It was a moment that captured the essence of CMU Palaro 2023 - a celebration of diversity and unity, where different colleges and disciplines can come together as one, transcending boundaries and showcasing their collective strength.

An awe-inspiring demonstration of skill, magnetic charm, and steadfast devotion, the College of Engineering found its shining stars in Ginoong Shane Michael Echano and Binibining Lyzabell Colcol during the Ginoo at Binibining CMU 2023 pageant. Representing their college with enthusiasm and pride, these two candidates made a lasting impression in the competition, receiving awards and winning over the audience.

Binibining Lyzabell Colcol: A Beacon of Beauty and Grace

As the spotlight bathed the stage in a warm glow, Binibining Lyzabell Colcol emerged as a radiant presence, captivating the audience with her elegance and charm.

“I felt proud to be a representative of COE and pressured to do well as I should reciprocate the trust and support they’ve given me,” she shared. Her motto, “don’t overthink and just wingit,” embodies her fearless approach to life, a philosophy that resonates with her supporters.

To her fans and well-wishers, she expressed her heartfelt thanks, saying, “TomyhomeCollege of Engineering, thankyou forthe trustyou’ve given me to be selected asyourrepresentative.Tomyfamilyandfriendswhocheeredforme.Andtomycoaches,HMUA,andSICwhomade me a queen, my achievements are yours truly.” With humility and grace, she acknowledged the village that stood behind her.

Despite her limited training time, fearlessly stepped onto the stage for her very first pageant. Her courage and determination shone brightly on stage.

Ginoong Shane Michael Echano: A Journey of Inner Strength and Growth

For Ginoong Shane Michael Echano, the pageant marked a remarkable voyage into uncharted waters. His debut on the stage was a testament to his courage and the transformational power of stepping out of one’s comfort zone.

“Itwas a mix of emotions,” Ginoong Shane reflected. “It made me feel nervous and anxious, butitwas also a pleasure, and itmade me proud atthe sametime.” His favorite quote,“Takerisk,bebrave,anddoitscared,” perfectly encapsulates his willingness to embrace the unknown.

Motivated by the knowledge that his fellow future engineers were watching and supporting him, Ginoong Shane carried the aspirations of his college on his shoulders. His message to his loyal supporters was heartfelt: “Thankyou!Itmeantsomuchtomethatyouguysare theretowitnessandsupportmeinmyjourney.Youguysarethebest.”

It’s important to note that this was Ginoong Shane’s first pageant experience, a remarkable feat for any newcomer. His journey serves as a reminder that beauty pageants are not merely about external appearances but about the inner strength and growth that can emerge when one takes a leap of faith.

The audience hushes, awaiting the start of a mesmerizing spectacle— the world of competitive Dancesport. This is a world where passion meets precision, and each step tells a story of dedication, artistry, and unbridled talent.

Dancesport competitions encompass a wide range of styles, from the grace and poise of modern standard dance like slow waltz, quickstep and, tango to the energetic and rhythmic flair of Latin American dance and third kind such as samba, rumba, cha-cha-cha and, jive. Each style offers its unique challenges, with dancers striving for perfection in their execution of intricate steps, partnering, and synchronization.

Behind the glamor of sequined costumes and the elegance of gliding across the floor, there’s a world of dedication and sacrifice. Competitive dancers juggle intense training schedules with their academic lives. Hours of practice, often accompanied by physical strain, become the norm as they strive for perfection. Every lift, spin, and twirl requires strength, endurance, and impeccable timing. One might wonder what drives these dancers to push themselves to their limits. For many, it’s the sheer love of dance and the desire to express themselves through movement. It’s the joy of becoming one with their partner, where every step is a synchronized heartbeat.

Meet Couple 004, Eve and Loreign, a dedicated dance sports duo.

One of the most enchanting aspects of dance sport is the partnership between dancers. Unlike solo sports, this is a shared journey where two in-

On the enchanting evening of the 3rd day at CMU Palaro 2023, the Dance Sports Competition took stage with the spotlight shining brilliantly on the Latin-American Dances.

Team Wildcats showcased their talent through a mesmerizing dance that flowed to the rhythmic beats of cha-cha-cha and Tango. Their performance was a symphony of skillful steps, elegant turns, graceful hops, and even breathtaking splits, creating an unforgettable visual and auditory experience for the audience in the University Convention Center.

But what truly elevated the atmosphere was the unwavering support from the Wildcats’ enthusiastic fans. Their rhythmic drumming and thunderous shouts of encouragement provided the heartbeat to the performance, fueling the dancers’ spirits and pushing them to greater heights.

Amidst fierce competition, contestant number 013 from Team Wildcats secured a 4th place, a testament to their dedication and artistry. To commemorate their achievement, they were awarded a certificate of recognition, sealing their place in CMU Palaro 2023.

Traditionally divided into male and female categories, Dancesport has undergone a transformation in recent years. The emergence of the third category has given dancers of all gender identities and orientations a platform to showcase their talents, challenging preconceived notions and creating a more inclusive dance community.

Dance has always been a form of expression, a way to convey emotions, stories, and connections. For LGBTQIA+ dancers, this category is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of love, identity, and authenticity. It provides a space where dancers can bring their authentic selves to the dance floor, breaking free from societal constraints.

Meet Louie and Christian, a same-sex dancesport couple 023 who have embraced the third category with open arms. “It is indeed an honorto join the third categoryand a memorable experience because I onlythought thatitwas onlythe college of engineeringthat I could make happy, but perhaps it surpasses my expectations since I was able to make the wholeCMUhappyaboutmyartwhichisdancing,” says Louie. “Thethird categoryis atestament that the LGBTQIA members of CMU are talented individuals,” he added.
