Rumah Sanur: exterior and interior development

2024, Sanur, Bali, Indonesia.

A split-level strategy is highly effective in maximizing space and enhancing the experience of a compact tropical design in Bali. This architectural approach divides a structure into multiple levels, allowing each space to adapt organically to the site’s natural topography. In a tropical setting, where maintaining harmony with the environment is crucial, split-level design can reduce the need for extensive excavation or leveling. This strategy not only preserves the natural landscape but also creates dynamic, interconnected living areas that blend indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly.

The split-level design enhances airflow and natural lighting, both essential elements in tropical architecture. By staggering floors, each level can be positioned to capture breezes and sunlight optimally. Large windows, open terraces, and strategically placed skylights ensure that air circulates freely and light penetrates deeply into the interior spaces. This reduces reliance on artificial lighting and cooling, promoting a more sustainable living environment. Additionally, the variation in floor heights allows for the creation of intimate outdoor areas like courtyards and balconies, which can be used for relaxation or as lush, green spaces that reflect Bali’s natural beauty.

A tropical design featuring an open, semi-outdoor bedroom in Bali embraces the island’s natural beauty and warm climate. This design blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, creating a harmonious connection with the environment. Typically, the bedroom may open directly onto a private garden or terrace through large, sliding glass doors or folding panels, allowing residents to enjoy the lush surroundings from the comfort of their beds. Natural materials like teak wood, bamboo, and stone are commonly used, blending the space with the local landscape and promoting a sense of tranquility and relaxation

To enhance comfort and privacy, thoughtful elements such as adjustable screens, drapes, or mosquito netting can be incorporated, providing flexibility in how the space is used throughout the day and night. Ceiling fans or strategically placed openings ensure adequate ventilation, keeping the bedroom cool and comfortable without the need for air conditioning. The semi-outdoor aspect not only maximizes the use of natural light and airflow but also immerses occupants in the serene sounds and sights of Bali’s tropical environment, creating a unique and immersive living experience that celebrates the island’s natural allure.

GENTENG RANGKA

A genteng roof, commonly used in Indonesian architecture, features distinctive clay or ceramic tiles known for their durability and aesthetic appeal. The roof structure typically consists of a wooden or metal framework that supports overlapping tiles arranged in a pattern to ensure effective water runoff. This design is ideal for tropical climates, as it provides excellent ventilation and insulation, keeping buildings cool by allowing air to circulate beneath the tiles while reflecting heat away. The gentle slope and interlocking nature of the tiles also offer resilience against heavy rains, making it a practical and attractive roofing choice in regions like Bali.

Capitol Building 16: Renovation

2024, Jl. Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Indonesia.

Transforming an office space into a flexible church setting involves balancing functionality, aesthetics, and spirituality within a chaotic, raw interior. The key strategy is using a system of multiple curtains to create adaptable separations. This approach allows for flexibility while maintaining the raw, industrial feel of the original space.

Materials: Use heavy, sound-absorbing fabric in neutral tones to contrast with the raw interior. Consider options like velvet for richness and acoustic benefits or lighter fabrics for a softer touch.

- *Flexibility:* Curtains allow quick and easy reconfiguration of the space to suit various needs, from large gatherings to small, private meetings.

- *Aesthetic Integration:* The system respects the raw, industrial character of the office while introducing elements of warmth and spirituality.

- *Cost-Effectiveness:* Compared to permanent walls, curtains offer a more affordable and less invasive solution for creating flexible spaces.

This design approach creates a harmonious blend of functionality, spirituality, and industrial aesthetics, transforming the office into a versatile and welcoming place for worship and community activities.

Inside this office there is also a canteen with a Japanese theme at the request of the owner. In its function, this place consists of a closed and semi-closed place with multi-function. The use of curtains is also one of the flexibility aimed at the multi-functional area, because of its benefits that can be opened and closed as needed.

Rumah Tanjung: exterior and interior development

2023, Gondangdia Menteng, Jakarta, Indonesia.

The adaptation of Art Deco in contemporary settings is not just about replication but reinterpretation to this facade, blending historical aesthetics with modern needs. This approach can be seen in everything from residential interiors to commercial spaces, where the grandeur and elegance of Art Deco provide a captivating backdrop for modern lifestyles. By carefully integrating these elements, designers can create environments that honor the past while embracing the present, offering spaces that are both luxurious and inviting.

Contemporary collections of Art Deco designs often integrate modern technology and sustainability without losing the movement’s distinctive flair. For instance, lighting fixtures might feature geometric shapes or metallic finishes, combined with energy-efficient LED technology. Furniture pieces could reflect the clean lines and rich materials typical of Art Deco, using sustainable or recycled resources to align with current environmental standards. This fusion of old and new ensures that Art Deco adaptations remain relevant and functional in today’s design landscape

Art Deco, a design movement that flourished from the 1920s to the 1940s, is characterized by its emphasis on luxury, geometry, and vibrant ornamentation. Adaptations of Art Deco principles into modern designs often involve sculptural elements that serve both decorative and functional purposes. For instance, the use of geometric motifs, stylized flora, and sunburst patterns can transform mundane structures into iconic pieces. Sculptural adornments on façades and interiors, such as bas-reliefs, friezes, and decorative panels, echo the grandeur of early 20th-century Art Deco while incorporating contemporary materials like steel and glass. These updated interpretations retain the movement’s original allure while fitting seamlessly into modern aesthetics.

Floor plans inspired by Art Deco emphasize symmetry, bold lines, and opulent detailing. Modern adaptations may incorporate sleek, linear layouts with focal points that draw the eye, such as grand staircases or centralized atriums. The use of luxurious materials, like polished stone or hardwood, and rich, contrasting colors can enhance these spaces, evoking the opulence of classic Art Deco interiors. Additionally, elements like inlaid floors, intricate ceiling designs, and mirrored surfaces create depth and visual interest, contributing to a sense of timeless elegance.

Integrating kitchen equipment into the overall design can transform a functional space into a visually striking centerpiece of the home. In a well-executed design, appliances and fixtures aren’t merely practical elements; they become key aesthetic components. For instance, a sleek, stainless steel refrigerator might be flanked by custom cabinetry that mirrors its finish, creating a seamless blend. Similarly, built-in ovens, cooktops, and dishwashers can be integrated into cabinetry, with matching facades that align with the kitchen’s overall style, whether modern, rustic, or transitional. This approach maintains a cohesive look and allows the equipment to enhance rather than disrupt the visual flow of the space.

Moreover, innovative designs often feature kitchen islands or countertops that incorporate appliances like sinks, cooktops, or wine coolers, making these essential tools part of the kitchen’s focal points. For example, a minimalist kitchen might feature a seamless induction cooktop embedded in a quartz countertop, with hidden ventilation to maintain clean lines. In addition, custom range hoods can be designed to blend with or stand out as unique design statements, using materials like copper, brass, or stone. These design strategies not only create a more visually appealing space but also optimize functionality, making the kitchen both beautiful and highly efficient for everyday use.

Interior Room at PIK: interior development

2021, PIK 2, Jakarta Utara, Indonesia.

The room that a son originally lived in alone will be converted into a married couple’s room. Both people like luxurious designs, with a touch of warm and comfortable lighting for both. Both love gold accents and beige colors to decorate it.

This iving room is incorporated with a work desk for the husband. So when the wife watches the husband can accompany while working, and vice versa.

Activities carried out in this living room will take a long time, so needs such as eating and drinking must be easily accessible as desired by these two couples.

Gold Dragon Central Park: exterior and interior development

A classy yet classic temporary bar creates a sophisticated ambiance while maintaining a timeless aesthetic. The bar’s design combines rich, traditional materials like polished wood and marble with contemporary elements such as sleek lighting and minimalistic accents.

2021, Central Park Mall, Jakarta Barat, Indonesia.

This blend ensures it appeals to a broad audience, from those appreciating modern luxury to those with a taste for vintage elegance. The temporary setup doesn’t compromise on quality, featuring premium furniture, a carefully curated drink menu, and attentive service, making it a standout venue for exclusive events or pop-up experiences.

Some of the following photo renders are the result of design maturation that occurs many times. The final concept of Gold Dragon Central Park is Classic and Classy Homie Bar.

The spark of the classic concept is applied not only to the venue area but also to the toilet area to maintain consistency. Of course, with materials that match the conditionsin the space as well. The most endlessly repetitive part is the part for detailing interior compositions, one of which is furniture detailing.

All of these designs start from the resulting sketch into a design method to reference the meaning of the classic concept itself. Being able to accommodate the needs and brief from the owner is one of the challenges in this design.

Here are some mood photo captures from Gold Dragon Central Park which opened on February 14, 2023. Bringing the new style of the room with classic details but still matching with modern fashion.

Not consumed by the times but following its development. Even though it is around a highrise building, the concept of this building can still be an attraction because the materials and ligthing used still combine neatly.

Holywings Cabin: exterior and interior development

2022, Jl. Cikini raya, Jakarta Pusat, Indonesia.

This is a hybrid project of the bar and lounge we once designed. The project is positioned in the Cikini area. Sitewise, this area is an area with a population of people who are mostly “old rich people” according to our business data analyst. With this data we have a strategy to keep this place of ours comfortable for young visitors, but also to provoke these “old rich people” residents to also be attracted here.

The manufacture of Cabin and Chalet here adapts some wood and natural stone materials, as well as details in terms of joint structure and connectors. Some of these compositions will be applied directly from the face of the building to the shape of the interior.

we didn’t know we were making memories, we just know we were having fun” this quotes is one of many things that we want to our visitors think. With the comfort obtained by visitors who already consider this like grandma’s home, we hope that our entertainment offerings can also entertain them well

The H Club SCBD: exterior and interior development

this is some of the new place for our celebration. The largest entertainment in Southeast Asia with an area of approximately 4500 sqm plus its strategic location in the center of Jakarta, HW Entertainment carries a futuristic modern concept.

2023, Jl. Jendral Sudirman Senayan, Jakarta Selatan, Indonesia.

This futuristic design on the elongated and fluid interior area can finally be formed in the field with drawings and detailing that are discussed intensely with the contractor team and us as designers.

A modern and luxurious club entrance is designed to make a strong first impression, combining cutting-edge aesthetics with opulent features to set the tone for the entire venue. The exterior often features clean, sleek lines with materials like glass, metal, and stone to create a sophisticated look. Architectural lighting highlights key elements, such as doorways or signage, and can include dynamic lighting systems that change colors or patterns, adding a sense of energy and exclusivity.

Inside, the entrance typically continues this theme with a spacious foyer or reception area adorned with highend finishes like marble, polished concrete, or custom woodwork. The use of reflective surfaces, such as mirrors or metallic accents, enhances the sense of luxury and space.

High ceilings, grand chandeliers, or modern art installations can serve as focal points, drawing guests into the main areas of the club. Attention to detail in the design, from the texture of the walls to the pattern of the flooring, contributes to an overall atmosphere of elegance and modernity, ensuring that guests feel both welcomed and impressed from the moment they arrive.
