This unit consisted of 3 modules which were all theoretical, except for the networking module whereby we had the chance to practice HTML and CSS for web developing purposes.

The information provided was very interesting and related to my profession such as addressing several teaching pedagogies. However, we only had a brief insight of how to develop and use the VLE. We had little practical sessions, and this was a drawback for those students who had no experience of a VLE environment, even more as administrators of the system.

I believe that even though the theoretical part about the Internet is important, but it was given too much emphasis considering that for TEL, teachers should not be IT specialist.

Even more considering the Web 2.0 development which have given us more freedom to be creative and use tools that required a certain extent of IT knowledge up to a few years ago.

The learning environment was adequate and useful. Nevertheless, it seems that the forum still needs to be promoted and encouraged to be used. For example, discussion topics can be posted as part of the global mark as per the students’ contribution

As I am already aware of integrating IT in education and have some experience of adopting technology in my teaching practice, hence this unit was a good brush up. More time could have been allocated for practical sessions to administer a VLE environment, in order to gain familiarity of using such a platform, even more considering the fact a similar learning platform (Fronter) is being introduced in our educational system.

Elaborating on the issue of working in on-line environments providing concrete and practical material of how to integrate online platform in the teaching practice.
