Illustrated Haiku Poems
On behalf of Wakefield’s Lit Fest and Artwalk, 2014, the Well Women Centre asked members of the public to write haiku poems exploring the theme of the incarceration of women. Under three subject areas, this Illustrated book depicts nine haiku poems, promoting the creativity of language and art which is promoted on the Lit Fest and Artwalk in Wakefield as well as the topic of women in jail. Blend with the darkness No torch can guide my way out One day I will flee Darkness engulfs me Light reflecting on metal Lonely, cold embrace I once shone proudly Now a shadow of my best Will I be again?
As blue sky beckons cutting at my inner soul Crave the sharp freedom Shiny, sharp wire fence trapping me from real life Want to tear it down Wrapping round above Spiralling edge to contain wickedness within
I can glow greatly Boundless, free and powerful It is a facade Outside my window the sun, it shines so brightly Why am I in here? Miss those previous moments that have gone away but are remembered
