THE EVOC STORY 50 DESTINATIONS IN 20 YEARS Over the last 20 years we have travelled to more than 50 destinations. With our mountain bikes or snowboards, always on the search for the best trails and greatest powder runs. We discovered fantastic places and found some amazing downhill runs. But what we couldn’t find was equipment that met our needs. So, we began to develop and produce this equipment according to our personal preferences: top-quality, sophisticated products with useful features.

When we started EVOC over 10 years ago, we could never have dreamt where our path would lead us.

Like last autumn in , for example, where we set off in search of our roots (and, of course, new trails). We found the araucaria, a tree that has existed since pre-history and which has given the whole region its name: Araucaria. This part of Chile is not just home to the indigenous Pehuenche people, who were extremely hospitable to us; but its incredible landscape quite simply predestines it to be a region ripe for adventure for mountain bikers. For us, the perfect location in which to finish developing a whole new product line of packs and bags. Going by the name of ON-BIKE PACKS, we can now, with immediate effect, offer options to create extra storage space on the frame. With the important proviso, of course, that there is absolutely no negative impact on ride enjoyment. We had already had a completely different type of fun on the bikes in winter,

on beautiful , one of the Canary Islands. We had travelled there to do some road biking and to put our latest addition to the BIKE TRAVEL BAG family through its final tests. The aim, with the new bag, was that in future it would only be necessary to detach the wheels and pedals to pack up the bike securely for travelling, and nothing would be changed on the sensitive cockpit settings. We were highly satisfied with the results and hope that in this way we will be able to make travelling easier in future for all road bikers and triathletes. The original 3 products we offered back then have by now, as if by themselves, grown to nearly one hundred - and we don’t have the feeling that we’re going to run out of ideas anytime soon. We’re particularly proud of the fact that we still all share the same passion for travelling and discovering places, and the same aspirations to develop and use good products. That’s why everything that comes from the EVOC stable will always be a little more than just pieces of equipment.

EVOC is about travelling. We´ve been to more than 50 destinations in the recent 20 years, looking for perfect powder lines and the best trails. Things were different back then. There wasn´t really good gear out there to travel with a bike - or a backpack with integrated back protector. Pretty obvious today, but for us initially the reason to start making such things - and to found EVOC as a result. That´s been 10 years ago, in 2008. The original people of Araucania are the Pewenche who belong to the indigenous people of the „Mapuche“, the „people of the land“. „Pewen“ is the native name for the Araucaria tree. „Pewenche“ means „people of the araucaria“ as they used to live from the seeds and the wood. Chief Joaquim warmly welcomes us with a traditional „Matetun“ ceremony and tells about their life-long fight for the last remaining trees

and the Pewenche`s close relation to nature. Today their biggest effort is to preserve the Araucaria habitats. „Everything in nature has a spirit, a godly representation. So one must ask for permission from the spirits and say a prayer of thanks before using something from the environment.“

After 10 years of working closely together, without any compromise to our initial idea, we can feel the spirit is still there and deserves the same kind of respect. It is this kind of passion that brought us here. A gift, that canÂ´t be valued high enough. At the end of days filled with countless numbers of experiences and sensations, and terrific tours and trails, each one seemingly better than the one before, we sit around the camp fire of an evening and talk about the best trips we have made together in recent years. Chile - and in particular this mystical region of Araucaria - is quite surely one of the out-and-out highlights. And it is still the

case that we always end up talking about the products and details that we know we definitely have to further improve on in future. Araucaria Tree: Everything big starts small. And everything with substance needs time to grow. Araucarias have been around for 90 million years and the oldest ones are over 1000 years old. Some of these old tress look like dinosaurs from the past. Watching the world from high above. And if you are quiet enough, they will tell you their story.

PROTECTOR BACKPACKS TECHNOLOGY AIRSHIELD SYSTEM The lattice structured elastomer protector construction provides 360° back ventilation and ergo-dynamic flexibility at the same time, through its hexagonal elements. Directly attached to the protector, a range of 12 elastomer pads with mesh effect

LITESHIELD SYSTEM The core component of the protector backpack system is the extra-wide, ergonomically shaped neoprene hip belt with Velcro fastening and a large heavy-duty buckle. This system transfers the main load onto the hips, namely right to the body’s centre of gravity.

At the same time, the ergonomically cut shoulder straps keep the backpack comfortably in the predefined position to guarantee perfect back protection. Mesh elements, EVA foam with ventilation holes and a large, central ventilation channel ensure good air circulation.

EVOC Sales Coordinator Lukas Malgay is scepticalâ&#x20AC;Ś but the prospect of escaping the German winter for a couple of days to put the new ROAD BIKE BAG PRO through some heavy-duty testing is a very tempting proposition for our passionate road biker, it has to be said. MATERIALS

We carefully select exclusive materials for our products or tailor them exactly to our requirements. For use in our products, materials must be lightweight as well as exhibit optimum material properties. Our high standards in terms of product functionality and quality are the most important indicator in this regard.

OUTER MATERIALS The requirements for perfect backpack and bag outer material can be summarised into four characteristics: durability, abrasion resistance, water resistance and weight. Depending on the purpose of the product, we use various types of nylon with different weaves and thicknesses that optimally support the function of the product.

TASLAN Our high-end fabric, that sports an excellent low weight/stability ratio. Thanks to its special weave using thick and thin yarn, it is particularly tear-resistant and retains its shape, while the PU coating makes it completely waterproof.

N 210D RIPSTOP HD

N 420D HD

Extremely lightweight and yet abrasion-resistant, this fabric with ripstop construction and highdensity fabric boasts and tear resistance. The crosshatch weave pattern ensures that potential tears do not easily spread. The coating makes the nylon water-repellent.

This nylon is ideal for use wherever a high degree of durability and abrasion resistance is required, and it is super lightweight, too. The robust and highquality fabric is finished with a coating on the inside for water resistance.

N 100D SHADOW BOX Our most lightweight fabric for all backpacks where low weight is essential. The relief-like structure not only looks very technical, but also boasts a high degree of tear resistance as a result of its type of weave. Water resistance is achieved through a PU coating.

TARPAULIN 1000D (EVOC TARPAULIN) Extremely temperature-resistant and completely waterproof – these are the properties of this high-quality PVCfree EVOC tarpaulin. Perfect for all heavy-duty EVOC products.

N 210 TAFFETTA We use this light, durable and completely waterproof fabric for our rain covers, in particular.

CORDURA 1000D This high-strength cordura fabric is practically indestructible. Durability and protection are at the forefront with this material, but it also scores high points for low weight. Waterrepellent thanks to the coating.

P 600D Where usage involves high wear and tear, e.g. in the case of the bike travel bag or bag bases, we use this tear-resistant, lightweight and waterresistant polyester fabric. Most recently, it is finished with a KEVLAR coating so even dirt simply rolls off the fabric.

140/500D SHANTUNG We use this very sturdy, abrasionresistant and waterproof outer material made from Nylon (20 %), Poly (12 %) and TPU (68%) in all our products that are subject to direct heavy-duty usage, such as saddlebags and frame bags. The PVC-free TPU coating, which is applied by means of a particularly high-quality process known as “kiss coating”, provides extra protection; and the very dense heather-look weave ensures excellent longevity.

AIRO FLEX

Neoprene exhibits flexibility and stability at the same time, and therefore offers exceptionally good grip – over a wide temperature range, and in wet and dry conditions. This makes the material our number one choice for our hip belts, which are possibly the most important backpack components for distributing load towards the body’s centre of gravity for maximum comfort.

With its origin in medical device technology, this extremely sturdy premium material has everything to justify its use in our top-quality hip belts: exceptionally flexible, completely air-permeable, and yet sufficiently sturdy to keep the backpack in place with the load as close as possible to the body’s centre of gravity.

TREATMENTS & FINISHES Our materials are finished with high-quality coatings that extend their lifespan and enhance the quality of our products. Polygiene is a special type of treatment where silver ions are applied to the fibres, which then prevents the growth of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria or fungi. This in turn inhibits buildup of odour and prevents potential mold infestation. Products treated with polygiene are environmentally friendly because they require less washing, plus they are more durable.

LININGS By linings we mean our lining and inner materials that are used on our bags and backpacks. We vary these, too, according to the intended use for the bag or backpack, and ensure they are colourcoordinated so that the design experience can continue to be appreciated once they are opened up.

POLYESTER 210 TAFETTA Our TRAVEL Line linings are soft and silky to touch and hold their shape well thanks to the fine web structure of the fabric. Ideal protection for clothing and personal equipment. The extra coating ensures it is robust enough for sporting journeys, too.

ULTRA SONIC A very soft, velvety and pumpedup 3-layered material. It protects sensitive contents and is therefore used in the laptop compartment of our MISSION PRO.

POLYESTER 200D Particularly robust and with an extra coating for enhanced resistance to wear and tear, our first choice for tool, hydration bladder and avalanche compartments and the like.
