PILLING RESISTANCE
Breathable material is permeable to water vapor, thus able to transfer moisture from the inside out. Breathability is measured with RET and MTVR values. The RET (resistance-evaporationtransmission) value indicates the water vapor resistance of a fabric. The lower the resistance, the more breathable the material. (e.g.: RET < 3 = highly breathable and RET > 20 = non-breathable). The MVTR (moisture-vapor-transmission rate) value is another criterium adapted to measure breathability: A lab test can calculate the amount of water vapor that can cross one square meter of fabric in 24 hours. The greater this amount, the more breathable the material. A MVTR value of > 10,000 is considered a good level of breathability.
Indicated with values from 1 (severe pilling) to 2–4 (moderate pilling) to 5 (very slight pilling). Tested with the Martindale method – the fabric sample is rubbed against itself and compared with standard results after 2,000 cycles.

In particular, the raising of animals for gavage-based foie gras production and live plucking have drawn their ire given that such practices are often hard to uncover due to vast and convoluted supply chains. DYNAFIT joins them in rejecting these practices and is committed to a fair and proper handling of all natural resources available to us. Consequently, we carefully ensure that our down jackets are only filled with high-quality, ethically harvested down. To ensure this in a transparent and credible fashion while eradicating unnecessary animal suffering from the supply chain, DYNAFIT
purchases exclusively down that comes with an RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certification. The RDS was the result of joint efforts and commitment by various stakeholders; especially inputs from suppliers, farmers, animal welfare organizations (Four Paws, PETA, the German Animal Welfare Association) and industry experts were essential. It was published in 2014 and is currently the most comprehensive, independent certified animal welfare and traceability standard worldwide. It certifies the absence of live plucking and gavage but is also aimed at guaranteeing the respect for general animal welfare legislation and traceability. Animal husbandry is strictly checked and monitored from hatching to the harvesting of down.

As always, a majority of our soft goods products are produced in Asia. One reason for that is that significant expertise is only available in Asia. To guarantee our production still complies with international work standards, we also work in cooperation with the independent organization Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), with the mission of improving global working conditions in the textile industry. Teams of experts from FWF regularly visit production facilities to review compliance with standards and to initiate further improvements. In 2015, 93 % of our apparel collection came from suppliers audited by the FWF or in low-risk countries.

Fair working conditions as well as environmentally friendly materials free of hazards are a concern to us in fulfilling all expectations on a premium product. We have been a bluesign® system partner since 2011. bluesign® seeks to eliminate hazardous materials starting at the first stage of the manufacturing process. It also oversees compliance with guidelines regarding environmentally safe production. The organization not only supports international environmental standards; it also conducts comprehensive risk analyses and thus represents a seal of approval for the protection of the environment and people. In 2015, 44 percent of our soft goods collection are made with bluesign® – certified materials – a percentage that we will continue to expand in the future.

As an innovator and developer of technical equipment and gear for mountain sports, it remains our biggest challenge to work sustainably – next to, of course, the quality and performance of our products. Social responsibility for people and planet is a given. All along the value chain we look to do sustainable business and engage in transparent communication with all of our user groups. Fair working conditions, high quality standards, shorter transport distances – all of this saves resources and is our highest priority in our continued search for appropriate production facilities in Europe. At this time, approximately 80 percent of our products are produced in Europe – and we are very proud of that valued fact although we will also continue to improve on it. Look a little closer, however: Bindings, our core product, are 100 percent made in Germany at three facilities as a part of our partnership with Caritas production workshops that employ the disabled.
