SEPTEMBER 10, 2022 ON MAIN STREET DOWNTOWN PONTOTOC

Welcome to Pontotoc’s Bodock Festival! This will be the 28th year of making memories at the festival. There is definitely something for everyone to enjoy. We host the largest bike ride in North MS, the Tour de Bodock. Our Car & Tractor Show has always been a Bodock Festival success. Our locals as well as visitors enjoy bringing a chair and lis tening to the live music. You’ll hear squeals of laughter coming from the Children’s Corner. Works of Art abound in our vendor booths. And, one of my favorites is the food-Pancakes, Corn Dogs, Funnel Cakes, Snow Cones, and plenty of other choices. Even though the Bodock Festival means

something different to me now, I still remem ber the feeling of excitement from my younger years when it was time for Bodock. It’s reward ing to see young parents watching their chil dren having a fun time and listening to them talk about the nostalgia they feel from playing so hard on the square at the festival when they wereJustchildren.thesight of the train immediately stirs memories. This nostalgia is being passed from one generation to the next, and this is exactly ourWhilegoal. you’re here, make plans to stroll through our Antique Stores, Boutiques, Book Store, and many other retail choices. If you want to sit down and cool off, stop by one of our restaurants for a cold glass of sweet tea or a meal.Regardless of what event brought you to the Bodock Festival, we’re glad you’re here! Please enjoy yourself and plan to make another trip to Pontotoc soon!

Sincerely, Beth Luther Waldo, Director Pontotoc Co. Chamber & Main St. Assoc.

There is nothing more precious than mak ing that music and harmonizing with those that God has given him to be his family.

“I have been singing in church all my life. When my wife, Andrea, and I were mar ried, we started singing together. Beth Wray, my sister, and I have been singing together her whole life, and she also joined us. Our daughter, Kara, joined us when she finished her music degree at ORU. Our daughter, Kori, does our multimedia work. There’s just something special about singing with family.

Murry Galloway has long known that music is the balm that soothes his soul and he strives to minister to others with his melody. After years of having songs turn yellow in a drawer one day he said God said it was time to bring them to the light and get some music going with“Onthem.the spur of the mo ment we went to a gospel singing in Jackson, TN last July (2021),” related Gal loway. “That night God supernaturally connected us to John Darin Rowsey, who is a Dove award win ner. He is the lead singer of The Guardian Quartet. I didn’t even know who he was before that night, but he asked to hear my songs, and ended up producing our albums.”

But there is more to making music than get ting up on the stage and spouting words to the guitar and keyboard. It is what goes on behind the scenes that makes it work.

“There’s a connection there that you don’t have with anyone else. Singing unto the Lord as a family is uplifting. There is nothing more enjoyable than doing that with my wife, my daughters, and my sister. We were doing this before an album ever became a possibility.”

Galloway & Co.

“I want to be clear about something here,” Galloway emphasized. “I may be the face and voice that you see and hear the most, but my wife, Andrea, is the engine of our ministry. God is our source, and Andrea does the work behind the scenes that makes our ministry happen.”Formore information about this group Gal loway said you can, “Go to our website, Gal lowayandCo.com for our contact information, to find scheduled events, and to order our mu sic. You will be able to download our album on Spotify, Amazon, or ITunes very soon. Fol low us on Facebook at Galloway & Company to stay updated on our ministry schedule, or look us up on Bandsintown.com to see a list of our scheduled appearances.”

Since then Galloway and his family have recorded two albums. The first, “Before and After”, was released the first of May. “This features eight songs which I have written over the years. On our second album, ‘Through the Years’, we were honored when John Darin Rowsey sang with us. That was re leased in July and features songs that we have sung for 35 years or more. Things are happen ing so quickly that it’s been like a whirlwind!”

“I do not have any hobbies; I don’t hunt, fish, golf, etc. Ministry is what I do, and min istry is what I enjoy. Music is where I have the most fun. The most fulfilling thing is when someone says,’that message, or that song, ministered to me.’ It makes me happy to know that we have had a positive impact on behalf of the kingdom of God.”

On the cover of the Galloway and Company CD are Galloways wife, An drea Galloway, his daughter Kara Galloway-Russell, Murray Galloway, daughter Kori Galloway and his sister, Beth Wray.

A renowned blues artist whose talents are demanded the world over, Bean has travelled extensively and not only played the blues, but taught his craft. But the humble spirited man still lives like he did before fame came his way. “I’m a country boy who drinks sweet tea,” he said. “When I travel abroad I make sure I drink a lot of sweet tea before I go,” he joked. “Because they don’t serve it anywhere else.” In fact, Bean told of going to the airport one time trying to get his tea on the airplane, “They took away my sweet tea, vienna sau sages and crackers,” he said. “They said they would give them back, but they didn’t.”

Terry “Harmonica” Bean

World renowned blues player Terry “Har monica” Bean, has called Pontotoc his home all his “Mylife.daddy and my grand-daddy played the blues.”Bean was an outstanding ball player but because of two wrecks he was not allowed to play ball professionally so he turned to his guitar and harmonica. Bean developed a one-man guitar-and-har monica act in the 1990s. Bean’s first solo recording, Here I Am Baby, was released in 2001. He recorded several CDs and traveled to festivals from coast to coast and even overseas while continuing to work at the factory, but that developed into a full-time music career in 2008.

Bean is tenaciously loyal to his home town no matter where he is playing his guitar and blowing his harmonica.

“Several times, when I would be playing in different places,” Bean recalled, “they would say to me, ‘Terry, just let us introduce you as Terry “Harmonica” Bean from Tupelo or Clarksdale.’“Itoldthem … no, I’ll get up there and do my own introduction— I’m from Pontotoc, Mississippi.”JustinKirk

touts himself as ‘Mississippi Born, Dirt Road Raised, Writer of songs. Be good to your mama. Mississippi.’ His music is a blend of country and old school rock. He has played and sang at several local venues including Sydnei’s Grill in Pontotoc.

“My granddaddy told me ‘boy if you will keep doing that it will do something for you.’ I didn’t understand it then, but now and then when I sit on a plane I do understand it.”

BODOCK FESTIVAL 2022 | 19

In 2011, Bean toured Italy, played in con cert in France in March 2013, and made a more comprehensive European tour in 2013, whilst sticking to performing in a traditional blues style. His most recent album, Catfish Blues, was issued by the Austrian-based Wolf Records in March 2014. One music journal ist commented “On Catfish Blues, Terry “Har monica” Bean delivers a pitch perfect hill country experience that can be enjoyed from the smoky haze of the barroom to the quiet desks of the archives.”

It’s intended to be a fun event that benefits the Tanglefoot Trail. It’s also a bargain.
