Herrington named OSD Administrator of the Year

Oxford High School Assistant Principal Marni Herrington is the 2015-2016 Oxford School District Administrator of the Year. The recognition was presented Monday at the district’s regular School Board meeting. “Each year the Administrator of the Year is selected by peers – the 28 administrators in the district,” said Assistant Superintendent Bill Hamilton. Not only is Herrington serving her third year as assistant principal at OHS, but she spent 11 years prior as a classroom teacher and coach at the school, having begun her career in 2002 straight out of college. She taught biology and advanced placement biology, along with being the head volleyball coach for five years and assistant girls’ basketball coach for eight years. Her familiarity with Oxford High began long before her tenure as an educator, though. “As a matter of fact, (Herrington) attended Oxford High School and graduated in 1998 as an outstanding student-athlete and Hall of Famer with a 4.0 (grade-point average),” Hamilton said. In addition, she sponsored the Oxford High Broad Journalism program and was named the Mississippi School Press Association’s Broadcast Advisor of the Year. Herrington earned her undergraduate degree at Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction at the University of Mississippi.
“Everyone who has come into contact with Marni knows that she is a very versatile individual,” Hamilton said. “She’s taken over as testing coordinator there at the school, and that’s a big job. That’s just one of many things she does, and she handles her job professionally. She always has a helpful, pleasant manner, and we’re just really proud of her being from Oxford.” School Board President
